Jewel 's POV I reached for my wine glass, the dark red liquid swirling slowly as I lifted it to my lips. The cold glass against my skin, I took a deep, reflective sip, never once taking my eyes away from Chef Adora, who was shaking in front of me. Her whole body was wracked with fear, a pale imitation of the lively, fiery woman she had once been. Her bright red hair, once neatly contained in a bun under her chef's hat, now fell around her shoulders in wild waves. The dark circles around her eyes made her look like a ghost. Her lips quivered as if attempting to shape words, but no sound emerged. I rolled my eyes back into my head, frustrated. The silence between us was heavy and oppressive.
