Isaac’s voice slithered through the smoke like poison. His smile was slow, deliberate, as if he already owned everything around him.
Everleigh’s grip tightened on the dagger in her hand. Her pulse thundered in her ears, but she forced herself to stand tall.
Her father moved before her in an instant, his massive frame blocking her from Isaac’s hungry stare. “You will not touch her,” Alpha Grey growled, his voice carrying the weight of command.
Isaac’s eyes glittered with mock amusement. “Ah, the mighty Alpha Grey. Still playing protector. But you’re old now. Weak. Your time has passed.”
Wolves snarled behind him, snapping at the heels of terrified pack members being dragged inside. The air was thick with smoke and blood. Screams echoed outside.
Everleigh’s mother fought at the bottom of the stairs, claws and teeth flashing, but there were too many. Rogues poured through the broken doors like a tide.
Isaac stepped forward, each stride calm and deliberate, like he was strolling into his own home. His gaze swept over Everleigh again, slow and possessive. “She’s even more beautiful than they said.”
Everleigh’s stomach twisted. She raised the dagger, hand trembling but steadying with sheer will. “Stay away from me.”
Isaac’s grin widened, sharp and cruel. “Fiery little thing, aren’t you? You’ll make fine Alpha pups.”
“Over my dead body,” she spat.
“Gladly.”
With a snarl, her father lunged. The room exploded into violence. Claws raked, teeth snapped, furniture splintered beneath the weight of battle. Alpha Grey’s roar shook the walls as he met Isaac head-on.
Everleigh could hardly breathe. Every instinct screamed to fight, to protect her father—but his command echoed in her mind: If something happens, you run.
She froze between duty and desperation as her father slammed Isaac into the wall. For a heartbeat, hope flared.
Then Isaac’s claws sank deep into Alpha Grey’s chest.
Everleigh’s scream tore through the chaos as her father staggered, blood blooming scarlet against his shirt.
Isaac leaned close, whispering something cruel into his ear before shoving him to the ground. Alpha Grey collapsed at Everleigh’s feet, his eyes dimming, his hand reaching weakly toward her.
“Run,” he rasped.
And then—nothing.
The world shattered.
Isaac’s laugh filled the silence, dark and triumphant. He stepped over the fallen Alpha, his gaze locking on Everleigh.
“You’re mine now.”
