"Big brother wake up! Someone is looking for you and they all look like government agents" a ten year old girl said as she shook his sleeping brother
"Huh? What? Is it morning already?" I said as I rubbed my eyes
Then my sister slapped me in the face knocking some sense into me. She quickly ran outside so I tried chasing her
"Come her you" I said as I opened the curtains
Then I saw these people all dressed up in black suits
"Good you're here" a lady said as she stands up
"I am Ms. Paterson in charged with the top passers of Mythingale University" she said as she removes her sunglasses off
"Inside that envelope is your scholarship contract. Ready every detail before signing it. If you have any questions don't be hesitate to ask do I make myself clear" she said with authority
"Yes Ma'am" I said with a salute
Then a man in black suit handed over the envelope. I immediately opened it and the header shocked me
"What! I placed first in the Mythingale entrance examination" I shouted
I read the letter thoroughly and I was right. I placed first. Inside the envelope is the contract I gave it a quick scan then I noticed something
"Ma'am, why does it say here that I am going to pay back everything that I spent. Doesn't the scholarship offer full tuition and accommodation?" I asked
"Well yes but in order to sustain those benefits you must prove worthy the exam is only a test to see you is deserving and your one of them but the way you perform in class is far way different from a crummy old test"
"That's why you are going to pay every cent. Don't worry you aced the exam after all" she said
"Deym if I signed this contract I can finally went to the urban city and find Mom but the moment I failed we are going to lose everything" a thought in my mind
"Big brother elder wants to speak with you" my sister said as she pulls my shirt
"Excuse me for a while" I said as we went on our way
We entered Elder's cabin
"Elder" I said as I kneel down
"Ramon, you are destined for greatness. Accept every trial and Emre will guide along the way. As long as you believe in him you can conquer every challenge that faces you"
"Now come fort" Elder ordered
I stood up and walked towards the Elder. He pressed his thumb at my forehead then started chanting words that I can't discern
"Once you opened your eyes at reality it is a sin to close them again" Elder's last words
We went back to our cabin. I slammed the door open
"Where do I sign" I said
The man in a suit handed me a pen and pointed out the areas that needed signing.
"It's a pleasure doing business with you"
"Our staff will fetch you in three days better start packing up" the lady said as they exited our cabin
"Emre I hope you are guiding me now I haven't told father about the contract yet" I prayed
Noon, I finished cleaning the entire cabin and cooked lunch. I sat down on the table and prepared the copy of the contract. I started rehearsing the news that I am going tell my father
Then someone opened the door
"What happened to our home?"
"Who did this?" Father seems surprised
"I did"
"Pa I have something to tell you" I said seriously
"Is it bad because you look too serious" father said as he sats down
"Have a look" I said as I pushed the envelope towards him
He checked it out
"What! You aced the exam I am so proud of you" Father seems glad
"Not that the other papers" I said shaking
Father then pulled out the contract and started reading it. After sometime
"What on Earth did you apply for. I thought it was totally free. Let's go to that school and take this back" Father seems furious
I tried pulling him back to his seat
"Father I accepted it because Elder say so" I said
"Elder said so Phew" Father swipes his sweat off
"For a moment there I thought that we are going to lose everything"
"Elder hasn't failed in giving wise decisions so there is nothing to worry about" Father seems relieved
"Oh I almost forgot I will be living three day from now" I informed
"That's great one less mouth to feed" Father said
"Pa!" I said in a grumpy manner
"I am just kidding. Of course we are going to miss you"
"But pay us a visit from time to time and bring us city food okay" Father eagerly request
"I will" I said
"Is that all? Cause I am starving" Father said
I called Blossom to eat lunch. We are all seated properly then we dig in
After lunch father and I went to our crop field to plow it
"Hey may son just aced the college exam" my Father bragged to every person we ran into
"You don't have to broadcast it to the whole village" I said
"Why not? As your father I am proud of your achievement" Father said
He continued bragging about me passing the exam
We arrived at our crop field. I quickly fetched our water buffalo and started plowing our field. The sun was up and there wasn't a single cloud in the sky. The sun's rays feel like depriving me of my strength. I sat down on a shade of a tree and took a break. Papa substituted for me
"Poor Papa he is going to plow this field all alone when I left"
"What if I gave him something to help him maybe that will cheer him up"
"No! To risky if I fail we are going to pay for it but if I bought him something surely it will be counted as a payment also the bad thing is that material things depreciate in value" I said as I make a decision whether I will buy a machinery to aid Papa in his job or not
"Pa I will be going now!" I shouted
I quickly stood up and started running even if he hadn't answered back. I went to Elder and ask him about my future plans
"Elder I have a question" I said as I kneel down
"What is a young one?" Elder asked
"I will have this allowance given by the university. Is it okay if I bought something for Papa?" I asked
"You should know when and where to spend your money. Money can be your best friend but also your worst enemy" Elder said
"Thank you Elder" I said then I went on my way
I went back to the cabin to have a rest. Along the way I started thinking about what Elder said.
"I should know where and when to spend my money because money can either be a friend or an enemy"
"What is that supposed to mean? I hope Elder said that in a simpler sense"
I started murmuring what Elder said then something popped out. I jumped into my bed and focused
"I should spend my money for my friends or relatives and not for my enemies"
"That's it! I think?" I am still uncertain
I got exhausted both mentally and physically so I decided to have an afternoon nap.
"Big brother wake up you still have to cook dinner and feed the animals" Blossom said as she wakes me up
"Huh? What? Is it morning already?" I said as I wipe my eyes
Then she gave me a slap. I shook my head and look at the time
"Oh my I forgot to feed the animals" I said as I ran off to our backyard
"What would you do without me" Blossom said as he watches over me
I quickly fed the animals and prepared dinner. Looks like Papa is coming
"Blossom you know what to do" I shouted
"Yeah yeah I know" Blossom said as she went on her way
"Pa buy me something sweet please" Blossom made a cute and cuddly face
Their father then went to the store and bought some candy. I immediately prepared the table and finished it just before Papa and Blossom entered the cabin
We all sat down and ate supper. I was thinking to tell Papa about my plan in buying him machinery but I hesitated. Maybe it's better to keep it as a surprise
"Pa I will be living in the next three days right? Who will do all my chores when I am gone especially plowing the field" I worried
"Don't worry about us we can handle it but worry about your grades because if you fail I am going to break every bone in your body"
"Now finish your food" Father said
We finished eating and I went to my room and relax for a while them I finally doze off
