Chapter 9: Accusations and Insults

652 Words
Julian Styles pulled up to Avery's house in his sleek, black sports car. Avery's eyes widened as she took in the luxurious vehicle, but her excitement was short-lived. As soon as they arrived at the restaurant, Julian's demeanor changed. His charming smile was replaced with a scowl, and his eyes narrowed into slits. "So, Avery," Julian said, his voice dripping with malice. "I've been hearing rumors about you and my dad. Care to explain?" Avery's eyes widened in shock, her face burning with indignation. "Excuse me? What are you talking about?" Julian sneered, his words cutting deep. "Don't play dumb, Avery. I know all about your little affair with my dad. You're just a cheap thrill, a way for him to spice up his boring life." Avery's confidence and elegance kicked in, and she stood up, her eyes blazing with anger. "How dare you," she spat, her voice venomous. "I don't know what kind of sick game you're playing, but I'm not going to stand here and listen to your insults." Julian's face turned red with rage, and he took a step closer to Avery. "And another thing, why does my dad know your name? Why does he know what you look like?" Avery's eyes flashed with anger, but she didn't back down. "I have no idea what you're talking about, Julian. Maybe you should ask your dad." Julian's eyes narrowed, his jaw clenched in anger. But Avery didn't care. She turned on her heel and walked away, leaving Julian standing alone in the restaurant. As she walked home, Avery's anger simmered just below the surface. She couldn't believe Julian's audacity, his nerve to accuse her of something so heinous. When she arrived at Remi's house, Avery was still fuming. Remi took one look at her face and knew something was wrong. "What happened?" Remi asked, concern etched on her face. Avery took a deep breath, trying to calm down. "Julian Styles," she spat, her voice still shaking with anger. "He accused me of having an affair with his dad. Can you believe it?" Remi's eyes widened in shock, and she quickly pulled Avery into a hug. "Oh my god, Avery. I'm so sorry. That's ridiculous." Avery's anger slowly began to dissipate as Remi's calm demeanor soothed her. They spent the rest of the evening watching a movie, laughing and joking as they munched on popcorn. As they settled in for the night, Remi turned to Avery with a mischievous grin. "So, who's the cutest guy in our class?" Avery rolled her eyes, laughing. "You know I'm not going to fall for that. But if I had to choose, I'd say...hmm, maybe Tyler?" Remi's eyes sparkled with amusement. "Tyler's cute, but I think Asher's got him beat. Don't you think Asher's adorable?" Avery raised an eyebrow, a sly smile spreading across her face. "Asher's okay, I guess. But he's no Julian Styles...oh wait, scratch that. Julian Styles is a jerk." Remi giggled, and the two friends continued to chat and laugh as they drifted off to sleep. As they settled in for the night, Avery turned to Remi with a serious expression. "Hey, Remi? Can I tell you something?" Remi's eyes locked onto Avery's, her expression somber. "Of course, Avery. What is it?" Avery's voice was barely above a whisper. Remi listened intently, her expression unreadable. When Avery finished speaking, Remi's face was etched with concern. "Avery, I promise you, I'll never tell anyone. Ever." Avery's eyes welled up with tears as she hugged Remi back. "Thanks, Remi. Just knowing I can trust you makes me feel so much better." As they hugged, Avery knew that she could always count on Remi to be there for her, no matter what. Spotted: Avery, socialite darling, having a meltdown after a disastrous dinner date with Julian Styles. But don't worry, Avery's got her BFF Remi to pick up the pieces...Hearts & Hellos, The Insider.
