Chapter 13: Betrayal

Remi woke up with a spring in her step, feeling like she was walking on clouds. She stretched her arms and let out a happy sigh, feeling the warmth of the sun streaming through her window. She jumped out of bed and ran to her parents' room, greeting them with a big hug and a kiss on the cheek.

Her parents were taken aback by her sudden display of affection, but they couldn't help but smile at their daughter's infectious happiness.

"Good morning, sweetie," her mom said, hugging her back. "What's got you so happy today?"

Remi just laughed and said, "Nothing, Mom. Just a good day, I guess."

Her parents exchanged a knowing glance, but Remi just grabbed her backpack and headed out the door, feeling like she was on top of the world.

As she walked to school, she even greeted Lila with a smile, which only seemed to confuse Lila further.

"Uh, hi Remi," Lila said, eyeing her warily. "What's going on with you?"

Remi just laughed and said, "Nothing, Lila. Just a good day."

But her good day was short-lived. As she sat down at her usual table in the cafeteria during lunch, her phone buzzed with an alert from the Insider.

She hesitated for a moment before opening the message, and what she saw made her blood run cold.

Remi's eyes widened in horror as she realized what was happening. People around her started snickering and commenting, and Remi's face burned with shame.

She quickly got up and ran to the bathroom, locking herself in a stall and bursting into tears. She was so embarrassed and humiliated, and she couldn't believe that someone would do this to her.

As she cried, Remi's mind racing with thoughts of who could have sent the tape to the Insider. It had to be someone she trusted, someone who had access to her personal life.

As she walked out of the bathroom, Remi was met with a sea of faces, all of them staring at her with a mixture of curiosity and amusement. She knew she had to get out of there, and fast.

Remi quickly grabbed her things and made a beeline for the exit, trying to ignore the whispers and snickers that followed her. She couldn't take it anymore. She just wanted to go home and hide.

As she walked out of the school building, Remi was stopped by Ethan, who looked at her with concern etched on his face.

"Hey, Remi, are you okay?" he asked, his voice soft and gentle.

Remi tried to hold back tears, but Ethan's kind eyes made her feel like she could trust him.

"I'm fine, Ethan," she said, trying to smile. "Just a tough day."

Ethan nodded and put a comforting arm around her shoulders.

"I'm here for you, Remi," he said. "Whatever it is, I'm here to listen."

Remi felt a lump form in her throat as she looked up at Ethan. She was grateful for his kindness, and for a moment, she forgot about the humiliation and shame she was feeling.
