WREN's POV
“N-no! Asher! Let me go!” I screamed, struggling, but he didn't stop. He continued dragging me towards the edge of the rooftop, and my heart started beating wildly when I realized what he was trying to do. I pulled my hand desperately, trying to free myself, but his grip only tightened around my wrist.
“Asher, stop!” I screamed again, my voice cracking.
He finally turned his head and looked at me, his expression cold and unreadable. “Tell me the truth, Wren.”
“I told you I'm not a werewolf!”
He took another step towards the edge, and my eyes widened. “Are you a werewolf?”
“Why the hell do you want to know?!” I screamed at him. “Why does it even concern you?! Why can't you just f*****g leave me alone?!”
He didn't answer me, and before I could say anything else, he pushed me.
My eyes widened, and my stomach dropped as my body went over the edge. For a second I couldn't even scream because my mind went blank and all I could see was the ground far below me.
“ASHEEEEEER!”
I screamed as my hands moved desperately, trying to grab onto anything, but there was nothing there. I was falling, and my heart was beating so hard that I thought it would explode from my chest when suddenly his hand grabbed mine.
My body jerked violently, and I looked up at him, tears already filling my eyes. He was holding my wrist while I dangled over the edge, and I immediately grabbed his hand with my other hand.
“Please!” I cried. “Pull me up!”
His fingers were wrapped tightly around my wrist, but his expression remained cold as he looked down at me.
“Are you a werewolf?”
I stared at him in disbelief. “Why does it matter?!”
“Answer me.”
“Please, Asher!” My voice broke as I struggled to hold onto him. “Pull me up!”
My fingers were already hurting from the way I was hanging, and my arms were beginning to lose strength. I could feel myself slipping, and I started crying harder.
“I'll tell you anything; just pull me up!” I begged.
He stared at me for a while, and for a second I thought he was finally going to help me, but his expression hardened.
“No.”
My heart stopped.
“What?”
“I'll confirm it my own way.” He said calmly, and I stared at him, confused by what he meant. “If you survive the fall, I'll let you go.”
My eyes widened in horror.
“No, no, no!” I cried, shaking my head. “Asher, please!”
His fingers slowly slipped from mine.
I fell.
“ASHEEEER!”
My heart beat heavily against my chest as I continued falling, and the wind slammed against my body, making my hair fly everywhere. I screamed as I looked down and saw the ground approaching me quickly. It was getting closer and closer, and there was nothing I could do to stop myself.
I couldn't transform, and I couldn't save myself.
I was going to die!
“YES!” I screamed with tears streaming down my face. “I'm a werewolf!”
I didn't even know if he could hear me, but I continued screaming because I didn't want to die.
“I'm a f*****g werewolf, okay?! I can't transform!” I screamed desperately. “I can't transform, and I'll die from this fall!”
The ground was approaching too quickly, and I shut my eyes tightly as I screamed again. “I can't transform! I'll f*****g die!”
I didn't know if he heard me.
I didn't know if he cared.
I only knew that I didn't want to die! Ughh!
I had spent years hiding what I was because I didn't want anyone to know. I had already been through enough, and now I was going to die because some stupid boy wanted to confirm something that shouldn't even concern him.
I shut my eyes tightly and waited for my body to hit the ground.
Then suddenly something grabbed me.
My body crashed against something hard, and my stomach twisted violently as the air was knocked out of me. I couldn't breathe, and for a few seconds I couldn't even understand what had happened. My body remained stiff while I tried desperately to get air into my lungs.
What... happened?
I slowly opened my eyes, and my heart nearly stopped when I saw Asher above me.
He caught me.
H-he actually caught me.
I stared at him, unable to believe that I was still alive. Somehow he had caught me before I hit the ground, but the impact had still sent both of us crashing onto the floor.
“Hold still for a moment,” he said.
I continued staring at him without saying anything.
I was too scared, too angry, and f*****g relieved.
My entire body was trembling, and I could still feel the fear from when I was falling. I thought I was going to die. I actually thought I was going to die and there was nothing I could do about it.
My breathing was still heavy as I remained there beneath him, trying to understand how I was still alive.
Then I heard a gasp, and another followed.
I slowly turned my head and saw students standing nearby staring at us.
My eyes widened in horror.
Someone covered their mouth while another person stepped closer.
“What the hell?”
More footsteps approached, and I quickly looked around, realizing that more students had gathered around us. Everyone was staring, and some were whispering to each other while looking directly at me.
My face burned instantly.
No, for f**k sake!
No, no, no! This couldn't be happening.
I had just been thrown off a rooftop, caught before I hit the ground, and now everyone was standing around looking at me like I was some strange show.
I quickly pushed against Asher's chest, but my hands were still shaking, and I barely had enough strength.
“Get off me,” I whispered.
He looked down at me and didn't move immediately.
“Hold still.”
“Get off me!” I snapped, my voice coming out louder this time.
He finally moved away, and I immediately pushed myself up, but my head spun, and I almost fell back down. Asher reached out to steady me, but I quickly slapped his hand away.
“Don't touch me.”
He stared at me, but I didn't care.
“You're f*****g insane,” I whispered, my voice shaking.
He didn't answer.
Of course he didn't.
I looked around again, and my embarrassment grew when I saw that everyone was still watching us.
One girl whispered something to the other, and both looked at me.
My chest tightened.
I lowered my head immediately, wishing I could disappear.
Then I remembered what I had screamed while falling.
I'm a werewolf.
I had actually said it out loud. In front of him.
My eyes slowly moved towards Asher, and my heart sank when I saw him staring at me.
He heard me.
There was no doubt about it.
He had finally gotten the answer he wanted.
I clenched my fists tightly as tears threatened to fall again.
I wanted to scream at him.
I wanted to hit him.
I wanted to ask him why the hell he would do something like that to me.
But I couldn't do any of those things.
I was too scared and too exhausted.
All I could do was stand there while everyone stared at me, and I felt like the ground should bury me alive.
