The two figures continued running through the thick forest. They ran as fast as they could. Before the wolves noticed they had escaped, they would have already been far away.
"Hey, where are you two running to?" they heard a deep voice call out.
“s**t, we must have been spotted by a sentinel,” Melissa whispered.
“What do we do now?” Mara started panicking.
“I think there’s only one sentinel. Let’s ambush him.”
“What? How’s that possible? There’s no way we can ambush a sentinel—we're just some weak Omegas,” Mara cried out in fear.
“What’s there to be scared about? Sentinels are also weak, just a bit stronger than Omegas.” Besides, I’m not as weak as I appear, she thought inwardly.
She was unlike most Omegas. She could partially transform and grow stronger. The transformation only affected her claws and teeth. It was a very deep secret of hers.
The sentinel ran to the position where he had seen the two girls, but there was nobody there. He was surprised and began searching carefully.
Thump!
The sentinel fainted. Melissa stepped out of her hiding place holding a brick. Mara jumped out, looking terrified. Melissa grabbed her, and they continued running.
Just as they had crossed the border of their old pack’s territory and entered the Eastern forest, they felt a strong gust of wind. A werewolf dashed out of the forest nearby and knocked them apart. Melissa hit her head on a tree and started bleeding.
The wolf ignored her and pounced on Mara. Fear gripped her. Through the grey moonlight, she could see the wolf going in for the kill. She will never allow him. She was the one who brought out the innocent werewolf—she would never allow her to die.
Anxiety surged within her, and something deep inside her snapped.
The huge grey wolf that was about to finish off the puny Omega felt something behind it and turned—but it was already too late.
What met him was a claw strike. The wolf was flung to the side. Mara looked at the new snow-white wolf that had appeared. She felt a very familiar sensation as she looked at it.
“It’s her,” she thought happily. She knew where the familiar feeling was coming from—her lady had finally transformed. Then she fainted.
The white wolf bent down, picked up the unconscious Mara, and continued running deeper into the forest. It ran for a long time before finding a cave and hid Mara inside.
Melissa didn’t know how it happened. She only remembered feeling overwhelming anxiety, fear, and regret. Watching the grey wolf move in on Mara, something inside her had snapped. At that moment, her wolf manifested—and she transformed.
After hiding Mara, she went to a nearby stream, still in her wolf form. Her throat had felt parched for a long time. She took a huge drink.
“Roar!”
Startled, she turned suddenly.
A huge wolf was standing beside her. It was massive—far bigger than even the beta back in the pack.
She had a bad premonition.
“Alpha!”
The wolf was probably an Alpha. Its size, the way it walked, and how it carried itself—it was all majestic.
She decided to make a run for it, but the Alpha was even faster. It caught up and jumped on her. Melissa tried her best to defend herself against this humongous creature. He was in a whole different league than the werewolf she fought earlier, who had seemed like a Gamma. Their strength wasn’t even comparable.
She decided to put up a strong fight. At least it was better to die fighting than to just lie there and wait for death. She clawed at him. They had a fierce battle, but it only lasted a short while before the huge wolf completely overpowered her and pinned her to the ground.
Her wolf howled in fear, and she could feel her fangs and claws retracting. She reverted to her human form. The Alpha noticed and did the same to avoid crushing her with his weight.
She watched the huge wolf transform into a very handsome man. His eyes glistened as he looked down at her with a fiery gaze.
She was terrified. Why was he looking at her like that? And also… Why was her wolf getting excited?
She suddenly felt something long and hard pressing against her stomach. She froze, just realizing that they were both naked—and their posture was extremely inappropriate.
The man noticed she was blushing. He followed her eyes and looked down. His eyes widened, but he didn’t panic. Instead, he gave a sly smile and stood up.
“My name is Alex. What’s your name?”
Melissa froze. She didn’t understand how things had gone from fighting to the death to… this.
“My Lord!”
Someone called out from a distance. The man stood up, unbothered. He looked at the newcomer and beckoned to him.
“Give me the robe.”
He took the robe from the man and handed it to Melissa. “Dress up and follow me.” He took another robe from the man and signaled for him to leave.

A few hours later
Melissa was sitting before a huge bonfire. Beside her was Mara, who looked around in fear. A group mixed with werewolves and humans sat around the bonfire, speaking among themselves.
It was a very surprising sight for the two women.
After Melissa was captured, Alex questioned her and found out she wasn’t an enemy. He decided to recruit her. He didn’t explain her status or why he was taking her in, which confused his men. They didn’t know whether to treat her as a captive.
She begged the Alpha to rescue her friend from the cave. He obliged. He even asked his personal healer wolf to tend to Mara. Luckily, she only had a small injury, so it didn’t take long for her to heal completely.
Melissa was overwhelmed by Alex’s generosity. He didn’t treat them like normal captives at all.
They brought the two women here and fed them. But the strange thing was, this group didn’t seem to be from the Northern Forest. They had only come to the forest to destroy a pack that had offended them.
What surprised her the most was the mixture of humans and werewolves—and they all addressed the Alpha as “My King” or “My Lord.”
“They must be from the East,” Mara whispered.
Melissa nodded. She had heard rumors that some powerful Alphas from the East were also kings of human kingdoms. She had always thought it was just a myth, considering the cat-and-dog relationship between werewolves and humans in the North.
