Noah’s POV
“HI, son.” I looked up from my computer screen to see my mom and sister grinning as they walk through my office door.
“Mom. Lily. How are you? What brings you here at this time?” I got up to kiss my mom’s cheeks. She hugged me while Lily faked a sad pout.
“As soon as you see Noah you forget that I exist.” We all laughed as I hugged my little sister.
“So, who is the pretty girl outside your room? What happened to Sissy?” Lily inquired.
“Sissy is on maternity leave.” I don’t know why I was feeling nervous talking about Zoya. “That is Zoya Borelli. She’s my PA until Sissy is ready to get back to her job.” I answered scratching the back of my neck.
“Whoa big brother, do you have a crush on her something? Why do you look so nervous talking about her?” I didn’t miss the shock and wide grin on both of their faces. I tried to put a serious face on, but I think my mom caught me.
“Oh, come now Lily, why would your brother be nervous to talk about his PA?” Mom winked at me while stretching the last two words. “Anyways, we just came to remind you of our dinner with Jack this weekend to fix a date for our family to get together and plan for the engagement party.”
Jack is Lily’s fiancé and my best friend. They have been together since high school. Sometimes I envy the love they have. Whenever I see them, the emptiness and loneliness I have in my life seems to probe me even more. However, I don’t have time for love or relationship. I need to take care of my business and my family. Yes, girls fall for me all the time, but not for my heart but for my money. I can see right through their façade. Will there be ever a person who would want me for me and not for money? Honestly, I don’t think that day will ever come in my life.
“If you don’t mind, can we borrow Zoya for the afternoon? We have some shopping to do and need some company. Of course, if it is not too much to ask.” I was snapped out of my thoughts by my mother’s question.
Why would she want Zoya to tag along with her if Lily is there? I am confused but I didn’t want them to think anything strange, so I didn’t ask. My mom read my mind and answered for me.
“Lily has to meet Jack soon and I don’t want to go shopping alone. Please son, can I get some company? I would’ve asked you but as I know you wouldn’t want to go on a girls day out. So, can I steal your girl…, I mean your PA for the afternoon?”
Did my mom just call Zoya my girl? Oh, for crying out loud, she is going to embarrass me so much. I also know that my mom will not take a ‘no’ for an answer. I took a deep breath and nodded.
“I’ll call and let Ms. Borelli know.”
