After breakfast, I packed a small bag and returned to the Black Moon Pack with Orion and my parents. I had wanted to drive myself—mostly so I wouldn’t inconvenience anyone when it was time to return to the Onyx Pack the next day—but Klaus, being Klaus, wouldn’t hear of it. He insisted I ride with my family and promised to pick me up from Orion’s house in the morning. Sometimes, I wondered if I should be annoyed by how overprotective he was. But then again, there was something oddly comforting about being taken care of—especially now. My parents planned to head back to Willow Pack later this afternoon, which gave me a few precious hours to spend with them. I hadn’t spent any time like this with them in so long, not like this—surrounded by warmth and familiarity, no fear or shadows lurking
