A stripper

902 Words
Alina I couldn’t hear the rest. A stripper. He wanted me to be a stripper. Just a few hours ago, I had been the perfectly dressed wife of a billionaire, attending charity galas and drinking champagne while cameras flashed around me. Now, my husband’s uncle was asking me to strip for a room full of outlaws. “Gabriel, I don’t know how to do that.” I gripped the bloodstained rag in my hands. “I can clean. Serve drinks. Wash the floors. Anything else.” “I already have a janitor.” He leaned against the bar, his cold hazel eyes fixed on me. “I don’t need a maid, Alina. I need you to prove you belong here. This isn’t a charity. These men don’t care about your past. They care about what you can offer.” My gaze drifted toward the stage. The women moved beneath the neon lights, smiling as men crowded around them. I couldn’t imagine standing up there, exposing myself to strangers who would look at me the way Liam had always looked at me. As if I belonged to him. “If you step on that stage, there’s no going back,” Gabriel continued. “The woman Liam owned dies tonight.” I swallowed. “And if you can’t do it, the door is right behind you. Liam is probably tearing the city apart looking for you.” My fingers tightened around the rag. I thought of Liam’s face, his hands gripping my arms, and the cold certainty in his voice when he told me I would never leave him. Then I thought of the baby growing inside me. I had nowhere to go. No money, no phone, no one I could trust. The streets outside were unfamiliar, and Liam had enough money to make the entire city search for me. But the thought of getting on that stage made my stomach turn. I stared at the women beneath the lights, trying to imagine myself among them. Could I do it? Could I give up the last shred of dignity I had left if it meant keeping my baby safe? “Cerberus.” A tall man in a black leather cut approached the bar, holding a phone. Gabriel turned toward him. “What?." “You need to see this. It’s Liam Alison.” The man said. My heart stopped. He handed him the phone. Gabriel watched the screen, his expression hardening. “What is it?” I asked. Neither answered. I stepped closer, my eyes fixed on the phone. Then Gabriel turned the screen toward me. Liam appeared in his office, wearing the charcoal suit I had chosen for him. He looked immaculate, composed, and every bit the devoted husband the world believed him to be. “If you’re watching this, I need your help finding my wife. Alina Alison.” My fingers curled around the edge of the bar. “Alina disappeared earlier today. I am deeply concerned for her safety. If anyone has seen her or knows where she might be, please contact my office immediately.” He paused, his expression tightening with carefully manufactured distress. "There will be a substantial reward for information leading to her safe return.” A phone number appeared on the screen. Then Liam spoke again. “Anyone who brings Alina back to me will receive five hundred thousand dollars.” The video ended. For a moment, I couldn’t move. Five hundred thousand dollars. That was how much my husband was offering for me. I stared at the dark screen. “He made it sound like he is worried about me.” “He is giving people a reason to find you.” My gaze drifted across the clubhouse. The men laughing at the pool tables. The women serving drinks. The strangers who had barely glanced at me before. Any one of them could see that video. Any one of them could recognize my face. Five hundred thousand dollars was enough to make a stranger betray me. Enough to make someone forget I was a human being. My hand moved instinctively to my stomach. Liam would take me back. He would lock me inside that house, and this time, he would make certain I never got out. I couldn’t let him find us. “How many people have seen it?” Gabriel asked. “Hard to say,” the man replied. “It’s already being shared.” “Send me the original.” The man nodded and walked away. I looked at Gabriel, struggling to steady my breathing. “If I leave, someone could recognize me.” “Probably.” “And if I stay somewhere else, someone could turn me in.” “Mhm." I swallowed. The music pounded through the room. Neon lights spilled across the floor. Somewhere behind me, a man laughed. “Can you keep him away from me?” I whispered. Gabriel’s expression remained unreadable. “I can make it difficult for him to get through that door.” I looked at the stage. I was terrified of what he was asking me to do. But I was more terrified of what would happen if I walked out of that club. My baby deserved a chance at a life that didn’t belong to Liam. I drew a shaky breath and turned toward Gabriel. “I’ll do it. I will get on that stage."
