"Let's see whether you can make Mr. Miller stand again, or whether I can make Mr. Stone wake up. Miss Green, do you dare to make this bet?"
As soon as I finished speaking, the crowd erupted into an uproar, and people began whispering among themselves.
"Isn't that kid from the Stone family already on the verge of death? It's way harder to treat than Brian's legs."
"Yeah, if the Stone family hadn't spent a fortune keeping Charles alive, he probably would've been beyond saving a long time ago."
"If Dr. Nelson can make Charles wake up, that would truly be a miracle in medical history!"
Hearing the discussions around her, Cathy's eyes lit up, as if she was certain she had already won.
"Deal. Everyone here will be our witnesses! Don't go back on your word if you lose."
I nodded slightly and replied calmly, "I won't lose."
Brian curled his lips into a mocking smile and sneered. "Charles is already nothing more than a living corpse. You can't even treat my legs, yet you want to cure Charles. If you admit defeat now, I might consider letting you continue being a quack doctor."
I glanced at his legs casually. "Be careful. Miss Green's medical skills are 'too advanced'. Don't let her not only fail to heal your legs, but also give you some strange illness."
After saying that, I turned around and walked away.
Cathy was only an intern. I would never believe that she had the ability to cure Brian's paralysis.
That night, news of our bet spread throughout the entire city.
Some people even started placing bets on whether Cathy or I would win.
To support Cathy, Brian personally wagered 10 million dollars that she would win.
The next morning, Charles's mother, Ruth Stone, took me to the hospital. I immediately began preparing for the surgery.
It was extremely risky. The moment I walked out of the operating room and announced that it had been a success, Ruth burst into tears.
"Dr. Nelson, thank you! No matter whether Charles can wake up this time or not, the Stone family will always remember your kindness. You can ask for anything. We will do our best to fulfill your request."
As she spoke, she was about to kneel before me.
The woman standing in front of me had spent the past year searching everywhere for a cure after what happened to her son. The endless stress had turned her hair white far too early.
I quickly helped her up. "Mrs. Stone, I didn't save Charles for any reward. I just want to win. Don't worry. I can definitely wake Charles up."
Ruth's eyes filled with tears. Her voice trembled as she said, "I've heard about your bet with Cathy. The Stone family has also placed 10 million dollars on you. We'll give you both the original amount and the winnings. Dr. Nelson, please don't refuse. You deserve this."
Just as I was about to answer, I saw Cathy pushing Brian toward us.
She spoke in a sharp voice, "I was wondering why you wanted to help Charles. It turns out you're after the Stone family's money."
Cathy stepped forward and grabbed Ruth's hand, pretending to be concerned.
"Mrs. Stone, don't be fooled by this woman. She can't even heal Brian's legs. How could she possibly wake Charles up? You might end up losing everything."
Ruth pulled her hand away and said coldly, "I trust Dr. Nelson. There is no need for you to worry."
Seeing Ruth's cold rejection, Cathy pouted in disappointment.
"Ma'am, I was only trying to remind you out of kindness..."
Seeing the tears in Cathy's eyes, Brian felt a pang of pain in his heart.
He turned to Ruth and spoke with disdain, "Mrs. Stone, I've known Charles for many years. You should believe me, right? This woman is nothing more than a fraud. Don't let her treat Charles. She'll only waste your time and money."
Seeing his arrogant expression, Ruth was about to step forward and argue.
I stopped her. Then I looked at Brian's legs.
"Brian, Cathy doesn't even know how post-surgery rehabilitation works. Aren't you afraid you'll never be able to stand again?"
