CHAPTER 14Sibyl leaned across the kitchen table to accept a light for her cigarette. “Here I’ve been so excited about Timmy’s being all right that I’d let Lois go clean out of my mind. But it seems so horrible that she should have been the one to suffer, when actually she’d done nothing to hurt anyone.”
“She found what she went looking for, evidently. Killer thought she was dangerous to his safety, I suppose.” It was a strange chain reaction, though; it had been the women and children who had been getting hurt in this thing, so far. Lois, Rina, Edith…and her boy.

“One—though whether it’s genuine may be a question.” He told her about the elevator operator in the Mid-Broad Building who had described a man similar to Peter Baskoulos.
