Raven's POV "What?" I breathed, my eyes going wide. "That’s so cool! You are the first mage I’ve ever met." Without really thinking about it, I did an exaggerated, sweeping bow. "It’s an honor, Elder." Elder Kaelith looked entirely unimpressed. Her purple eyes didn't sparkle with the same excitement mine did. They looked tired, like she had carried the weight of those floating lights for a thousand years. "It’s not as cool as you think, Raven. At least, not in my case." I straightened up, my curiosity piqued. "What do you mean?" "I am a mage without active magic," she explained, her voice flat. "I only have it innately. I cannot create power from within myself. I need the assistance of charms and relics already infused with magic from sacred mountains to do even the simplest tasks."
