Chapter 8

_Callum

I almost spit in disguise when I heard him voice out. He was really annoying.

"You can eat your meal without talking!" I replied and continued eating and he laughed. "You are so stiff! Try to loosen up, we are family, at least we are no longer in the court hall, so talk to me like family!"

He said and that word pissed me off.

"Ohh, you want me to talk like family, right? Then don't hold me back when I start talking, Richard!" I said and he chuckled while serving his meal.

"I won't hold you back" he said and took a few spoons of his meal. "You think it was easy for me to put all of this together. Do you think being a leader is everything about smiling and greeting everyone? Let me tell you, it's a lot more than that.

And I would never let that position fall into your hands!" I said and he looked at me with a straight face.

"I don't understand whatever you are trying to say but trust me, I don't know about your struggle and I don't want to know it because I don't want to fit in your shoes." He said and I laughed.

"Stop the pretense and the disguise. I already know about everything with the elders. They want it in place of me and I get it!" I said and he laughed again.

" What are you talking about? Is it my fault that you are insecure? I still don't get why you are worried over a position you have been holding for 3 years and a few months.

Nothing in this world is taking your space!" He said and I was super pissed.

"You really don't want my space but why are you after my life? Why do the elders think you do better than I do? Why are you here?" I yelled and he smiled at me.

"All my life, I have lived in your shadow! All my life, my father would compare us and make me feel like I was the worst child! I tried all my best to be the child he would love but he ends up loving another person's son.

The only time I ever felt love in my entire life was the first five years of my life with my mum. But when she died, I became an orphan. A poor loveless orphan.

Did I ever blame you? I was mad at my father and I did every possible thing to soil his reputation and guess what happened? I didn't even get a glance from him before he died.

It was like I was not existing! I was his only son but he never loved me. And when he left, what did he leave me with? Debt!!

A huge debt that I could only be friendly with people and they will allow me work with them tagging me as one of the royal families.

Did I pray for this kind of life? Hell no! I didn't pray for it! But what can I do? I got a father who never loved me in his existence and after his death?

He left me with a huge amount of debt.

I started working mostly for women and they pay me for the menial jobs and I could only settle the bills little by little.

Have you ever checked out how I live? Have you ever seen someone go out there and investigate me? Maybe you would have found out better about the cousin you claim is after your throne.

And hear this, the contract I took from you. The elders pitied me and allowed me to pay the remains of my debt with it and in return I will keep working for them and they will cover me up.

It wasn't my intention to mess with your kingdom and about getting it repaired the proper way. I will make sure I do it. I have never failed myself and it won't happen this time around.

Thanks for the meal, cousin!" He said and stood up Immediately after giving me the shock of my life.

"Stop richard!" I said and he froze with laughter. "What? Why are you stopping me, a minute ago, you wished I was not here and I will love to honor your words and leave.

Don't make it hard for me!" He said and I stood up immediately. "Why did you not reach out to us, why did you not seek my help?" I asked and he laughed immediately.

"So I can accept that I am just your shadow? That I can't do anything on my own? I know something for sure! This didn't start now, your father and my father must have had a sort of competition going on in their life but do I care?

Obviously you care, but I don't, not everyone wants to compare life success because I don't have any! This is obviously about you and your who and insecurities and I am glad and lay it all out for you to see that I am not the bad person here.

Maybe you are, maybe you are not, alpha Callum! The elders might be right about replacing you with me but guess what? I will never walk in a way you did.

I don't want to be in any form of competition with you. My life is my life, not yours!" He said and walked away.

I could stop him as I knew deep down that he meant every single word he said.

Maybe I was just too scared of my situation and my insecurities took over me and I was stupid. I didn't even think about him.

We are families right but I didn't really look after him, I was busy looking out for him. Scared in pants that he was after me while he was trying to get away from me.

I was really a bad person and I was wrong all along. I was the total disaster!

"Jude!" I called and my best shadow beta walked out and bowed "I need your help, my cousin, Richard! Do you know him?" I asked And he nodded immediately.

"I want every detail over everything going on in his life!" I commanded and Jude nodded. " About his secret plans right?" He asked and I shook my head.

"about him, about how he is living? Is a royal family! " I said dishing out commands with a very accurate warning.

It's time to make amends and find out who is the enemy and who is not. I won't want to keep stepping on toes of those that can put me out.

I was having my nail paint when Lady Han barged into my room. I don't really hate the woman but I do not like her either.

"What is the meaning of that rubbish, Han? I yelled and the maid getting my paint done smashed it immediately And my anger became terror.

"Are you an imbecile? Are you dumb? How could you mess up with my nails! Get out of the room now and don't let me see you ever again. Do you understand me? " I said and she ran away as fast as she could like a kitten almost thrown into water

I turned to lady Han immediately after the maid ran for her dear life and she stared back at me. "What do you say to yourself in my room like an uncultured human being, Han?" I asked and she smiled.

"You sent one of the maids to get me, and now I am here." She said non chantly and I swear I heard her gut and this was also Maxwell's fault.

"Yes, I heard around that step brother of mine has gone a little lamb again!" I said and she chuckled. " Of course Alpha Maxwell is handsome and no matter what he will keep getting beautiful little lambs!" She replied and I hated her instantly.

The more she talked, the more annoying she sounded to me. "Tell me about her!" I said as I picked up the nail polish cleaner and started working on my nails.

"She is quite shy and reserved and when she was brought here she ended up fainting for two days straight after the alpha went through her!" She said and I was surprised.

"Where is she?" I asked and lady han didn't respond. I looked up and she was lost thinking right there in my presence. She has really grown wings and she doesn't really respect me anymore.

I hate her freaking guts daily.

"Lady han, can you stop daydreaming right in the middle of my room? You can do that when you are alone!" I said and she jolted back to life.

"So tell me, where is that lady and what is her name?" I asked and lady han flashed before responding.

"She is in the ice room and I hope she is not dead yet!" Lady han said and I wasn't really shocked.

"Go and get her for me! I want to meet her!" I said and threw the nail polish remover away as it was not doing the work faster as I expected.

"Okay, miss Jessica, I will send my boys to go get her!" She said and I was finally pissed off. " Han, what are you thinking of yourself, you are nothing here.

You don't own anything here and you are nothing but a senior maid and my step brothers play things whenever he is bored. So don't think of yourself as anything over here.

Be warned!" I said and she bowed instantly and I felt like she chuckled but her facial expression didn't say the same. " Don't play with me! Lady han" I said and she nodded.

"I will go get her immediately, Miss Jessica! " She said and walked out immediately.

I was so pissed off in my soul and I felt like smashing her into pieces. I still don't know what my step brother keeps seeing in other women.

We are practically not related and we can work things out but he is acting too stubborn about this and maybe ignorant of what I want and what he needs. I am a perfect spec for any woman.

Who is a perfect figure model as a wife and that is what I am with fair skin and a high sense of fashion. I am as perfect as any Luna and I have turned down a few handsome and rich men just to be with him but he is so annoying.

He keeps messing around with worthless women and he loves me. He cares about me all the time but simply won't admit that he wants a relationship as much as I do.

Ever since the spring event, he has withdrawn from intimate contact between us. We were perfect for eachother and we can still be.

I could remember that spring event, 100 years ago! When I was blooming in my youth, he was right there.

"Step brother, why are you sitting all by yourself here?" I said as I hit his shoulder and sat beside him. He looked a little drunk with his long hair rough and almost at the side.

He looks like he wanted to waste himself but he looks hotter with time. "Tell me, why do you come here and try to rub it in on me that our relationship is quite long? Why will you be here to call me step brother? my name is Maxwell, call me Maxwell!" He said and I chuckled.

" I didn't do any of that!" I said trying to defend myself and he looked at me straight in the face and I felt his gaze were solely on my lips.

"Are you blushing, Jessica?" He asked and I looked away. "I am not blushing!" I said and he laughed. "You know you don't know how to lie right?" He said and I refused to answer him.

"Why are you here, Maxwell!" I said and he held my hand into his own. "My blood is so hot and my girlfriend had refused to come to the party with me.

She is so scared of my family and all I can do is avoid the public places with over crowded hypocrites. I just want to be left alone before I do something bad.

So that's why you find me here with nothing on my mind but wasting myself with this nice alcohol!" He said and I snatched the blood.

"dont waste yourself because I can carry you later!" I said and he laughed and rubbed my head. " I might end up being the one to carry you like a horse." He said and I laughed.

" Why are you here, Jessica?" He asked suddenly and I looked at him and our eyes met! He was so handsome at the moment that I didn't recover until he shook me.

"Well, I am here to look after my stepbrother who is currently planning to drown himself in alcohol!" I said and he chuckled. " Guess what if I was to wish for something, I would certainly wish for someone like you as a girlfriend over and over again!" He said and I chuckled.

"Why me? " I asked and he looked at me straight and he left me flushed and red like a tomato.

"Look at yourself, Jessica, you are so beautiful and look at your figure, who wouldn't want to have my step sister as their one and only. And you are so beautiful at heart you have a very better behavior than mine!

What else will anybody want apart from that? " He said and I felt warmth in my soul and he really does like me.

"So tell me, what type of man do you want and I will make sure to find him for you, my sister!" He said and I hit his shoulder.

" I am not looking for a man yet!" I said shyly and he looked at me and rubbed my hair again.

" Stop running your hands through my hair! You will make it rough like yours! It takes a long time to make it ready" I said and he laughed at me.

"Are you scared of your hair alone?" He asked and I looked at him clueless like a sheep which is confused on which home is it's.

"what are you talking about?" I asked and he pinched my cheeks and rubbed it afterwards just like all bad good romance I have read about. It was always magical and when he did it.

I felt like I was on cloud nine! I felt like I was floating in the atmosphere of love.

He is my freaking step brother but he is unleashing a few things I never realized about myself. What is happening at the moment. His words were having different meaning in me and I was feeling jelly

What is happening?

"You look like you are only scared of me ruining your hair and not other parts of your body!" I said and I was shocked. Why would he say that?

"Maxwell, what are you saying? I don't even understand your words!" I said and he smiled and rubbed my cheeks and down to my lips.

" Do you know you have a nice set of lips!" He said and I smiled as I could not tell what else to do. My reaction was the opposite of what is running in my head.

Please, Maxwell, don't make things harder for me!

I said in my mind as I knew I had always had a weird rush in my step brother and right now, he is making me choose whether to do the good thing or the bad thing.

This is harder than I have ever thought.

"Maxwell, what are you doing?" I asked and he removed his hands and looked at me apologetically

"I'm sorry, I got carried away!" He said and looked away. I felt hurt immediately and started blaming myself for stopping him. I did not want him to stop at all.

Why will he just toy with his reaction and stop just like that?

"Jessica, you are one hell of a beautiful soul and I think I need that and I want that but it's weird!" He said and I looked down and nodded. "Do you?" He asked and I was shocked.

I wasn't expecting the question and he did ask! What was going to say? What will he think of me? What might happen? He does feel the same for me!

This is strange! We are strange! It's so weird.

"I don't know" I said and he chuckled devilishly. His laughter kept ringing in my head. Why would he grin like that? It's weird.

"Do you always feel like you can't explain, like things are going south whenever I am with you because I do. I feel like things are rolling in my head.

I want to get closer and closer till I am on your skin. But it seems I can't wait if you hate me? What if we get caught? What if you are not like that!

Anytime I see you, I just want to hold you, caress you and make you mine, but .. never mind! I have to get to bed, stay safe from here!" He said and stood up and walked away.

Just like that!

My dream was crushed like that!

I missed my chance to confess my feelings! He only assumed!!

Present day

"Miss Jessica, the lady is here!" A voice said and I angrily looked up. I was cut out of my sweetest memory. Who the hell is that bastard that decided to disturb me!

I was more pissed to see the i***t called the house keeper, lady Han. One of the most annoying creatures on earth. What is she here for again!

"what is your problem again!" I yelled and she looked extra calm and pointed at a lady who looked plain from my perspective. She had her head bowed and with not too long blonde hair.

She looked like a lady who grew up at the river side. She was barefoot and since she was in a long faded cloth which I can't tell if the initial cloth was red or white.

She could see her fair feet and I thought low of her immediately. She sure doesn't value Maxwell at all.

"I said I have done as I was asked and here is the lady you asked for!" She said and gave a silly comment and looked at me " can I leave now?" She said with an attitude and I rolled my eyes.

*Leave now!" I said and turned to the lady that was standing like she was in a wet cloth.

"What is your name?" I asked and she replied by looking up.

"Look at me and talk!" I yelled and she raised her face.
