Chapter 7: The Lunar Sap

1157 Words
The hidden royal sanctuary lay deep within the hollowed heart of the highest mountain spire, far beneath the freezing winds of the blizzard. To reach it, High Alpha Daudi had led Kisa down a sequence of winding, narrow stone stairs etched with ancient suppression runes. When they finally stepped through the heavy silver archway, Kisa’s breath caught completely in her throat. It was a subterranean paradise. A massive, natural glass dome high above allowed the brilliant, permanent indigo twilight of the northern sky to flood the cavern. In the center of the lush, grass-covered floor sat a single, massive tree with shimmering white bark and leaves that glowed like miniature crescent moons. The Ancestral Lunar-Tree. The air in the garden was thick with the intoxicating scent of damp soil, crushed cedar, and the sweet, heavy perfume of blooming night orchids. But for Kisa, the true relief was the ambient magic. Unlike the harsh, cold atmosphere of the stone fortress, the energy here felt warm, liquid, and intensely alive. "The sap of this tree is the only substance pure enough to bind the silver threads to the golden barkcloth permanently," Daudi said, his deep baritone dropping to a low, quiet register that echoed softly against the cave walls. He had stripped off his heavy dark armor, wearing only his soft black linen shirt, which was unbuttoned at the throat to reveal the pulsing violet runes winding up his neck. His inner wolf was quiet here, soothed by the raw lunar power radiating from the roots. "It is beautiful," Kisa whispered, stepping onto the soft grass. For a moment, she forgot she was a prisoner. She forgot about the terrifying Council of Fangs and High Lord Logan's deadly political threats. She closed her eyes, inhaling the sweet air, her mind drifting back to the southern wilderness. “The best magic is always hidden in the quietest places, Kisa,” Auntie Pinky had told her during her first year at the loom. “When the world is too loud, find the roots.” "We do not have time to admire the scenery, little weaver," Daudi murmured, though his pitch-black eyes weren't looking at the tree at all. He was looking at her. The pale violet light of the crescent leaves caught the sharp lines of her face, making her silver eyes shimmer like pools of liquid stardust. A dangerous, intense heat flared within his chest as the fated mates bond hummed in absolute harmony with the garden’s magic. He walked over to the base of the white tree, drawing a small, curved silver dagger from his belt. With a fluid, practiced movement, he made a shallow slice across the glowing white bark. Instantly, a thick, luminous silver sap began to well up, dripping slowly down the trunk like liquid starlight. "Bring the crystal vial from the worktable, Kisa," he commanded, his back turned to her. Kisa picked up the small glass container from the stone table near the archway and walked over to him. The grass muffled her footsteps, but as she stepped up right beside his massive frame, her boot caught on a thick, hidden root buried beneath the moss. She gasped, her balance violently slipping as she tumbled forward. Before she could hit the ground or drop the vial, Daudi blurred. He spun around in a split second, his powerful, calloused hands launching forward to catch her. He grabbed her firmly by her waist, his immense strength effortlessly halting her fall. But the momentum carried her small body directly into his space, slamming her front completely flush against his broad, bare chest. The maximum physical contact hit them both like a literal lightning strike. The Fated Mates bond violently exploded between them in a desperate, blazing rush of raw, untamed heat. A massive shockwave of brilliant golden celestial sparks and deep, roiling violet shadow-magic erupted from the point of contact, flattening the grass around their boots and causing the glowing leaves of the ancestral tree to shake frantically. Kisa’s crystal vial shattered against the stone, but neither of them noticed. Kisa’s hands instinctively clamped onto the soft fabric of his unbuttoned shirt, her fingers pressing into the hot, hard muscle of his chest. Her heart hammered against her ribs like a trapped bird, her breath hitching as the sheer, suffocating intensity of the bond flooded her veins with liquid fire. The intoxicating scent of him—frost, cedar, and dominant Alpha power—was completely overwhelming in the enclosed garden. Daudi didn't let her go. His large hands tightened around her waist, pinning her small body against his burning frame with an unyielding, terrifying possessiveness. The bottomless black of his pupils dilated violently until his eyes were entirely dark voids, swallowing the irises completely. His chest heaved in short, ragged gasps as his inner wolf roared to life inside his mind, scratching at his consciousness, demanding that he claim the human woman in his arms. "Kisa," Daudi growled, his deep voice dropping to a rough, gravelly rumble that vibrated directly against her collarbone, sending a dangerous, electric shiver straight to her core. He leaned down, his sharp, aristocratic jawline brushing against her temple as his breath hot against her skin. "I told you... I told you not to touch me." "I... I tripped," Kisa whispered back, her silver eyes locking directly into his dark voids. She was trembling, but it wasn't from fear anymore. It was from the sheer, unbearable slow-burn tension that had been building between the human apprentice and the Lycan King for seven chapters. Her lips were mere millimeters from his, her breath mingling with his in the heated space between them. Daudi stared down at her lips, his thumb slowly sliding up from her waist to cup the sharp line of her jawline. His touch was staggeringly, heartbreakingly gentle compared to the brutality he showed the high lords. He leaned down further, his lips brushing against hers in a phantom, slow-burning caress that tasted of winter frost and liquid gold, before his fangs elongated slightly, his beast fighting for control. "You are breaking my willpower, little weaver," Daudi murmured against her lips, his voice tight with an intense, agonizing hunger. "My wolf doesn't care about the treaties. He doesn't care about the council or the law. He just wants you." Kisa didn't pull away. She tilted her chin up slightly, her fingers tightening around his shirt, her soul completely anchoring his volatile magic. "Then let him," she whispered. Daudi let out a low, breathless sound, his forehead resting firmly against hers as he closed his eyes, inhaling her scent to steady his frantic pulse. The ancient runes on his neck soothed into a peaceful, blindingly bright violet rhythm, completely stabilized by her presence. They stood together in the glowing light of the lunar sanctuary, wrapped in each other's arms, completely aware that the lines between captor and prisoner had officially blurred into something unbreakable.
