Chapter 11: The Trembling Walls

1149 Words
The final night before the assault brought an ominous, suffocating darkness to the peaks of Crescent Peak. Outside the grand obsidian windows, the howling mountain blizzard had miraculously died down, replaced by a terrifying, dead silence. The indigo sky was dominated by an enormous, blood-red moon that cast a crimson glow across the snow-dusted battlements. From miles away, past the jagged outer perimeter stone walls, a low, collective rumble vibrated through the bedrock—the terrifying, rhythmic sound of ten thousand blood-frenzied wolves marching in perfect, monstrous unison. Inside the royal master suite, the air was electric with the taste of ozone, raw adrenaline, and approaching war. Kisa stood before the grand mahogany loom, her body aching with an unimaginable exhaustion. For twenty-four hours straight, she had not slept, eaten, or taken her eyes off the golden barkcloth. Her fingertips were raw, split, and bleeding from pulling the coarse fibers, but she refused to stop. She let her forbidden magic flow at its absolute maximum. Thick, radiant ribbons of liquid cosmic silver unspooled from her bleeding fingers, weaving directly into the final columns of the royal vestment. Every stitch she laid down was anchored by a silent prayer for Auntie Pinky and her peaceful southern village. She wasn't just weaving a soul-tether to save a king anymore; she was weaving a shield to protect her entire world from being burned to ash by High Lord Logan's rogue rebellion. High Alpha Daudi stood on the open balcony just past the shattered service doors, his massive frame silhouetted against the blood-red moon. He had returned to his heavy, dark-iron battle armor, his massive obsidian broadsword strapped securely to his back. The ancient runes winding up his neck and chest were glowing a deep, volatile violet that occasionally flared with sharp crimson sparks, reacting to the violent, frenzied magic of the approaching horde. His inner wolf was clawing frantically at his skin, desperate to leap over the balcony and join the slaughter, but the steady, beautiful hum of Kisa’s celestial loom kept his mind tethered to reality. Suddenly, a massive, deafening explosion rocked the mountain fortress. The white-stone walls of the master suite violently trembled, sending thick dust raining down from the ceiling arches. Kisa gasped, her knees violently buckling from the shockwave as a spool of heavy copper thread clattered off the worktable. Daudi blurred from the balcony, crossing the open floor in a single heartbeat. Before she could hit the marble, his massive, armored arms launched forward, catching her by her waist and pulling her small frame completely flush against his solid, burning chest plate. The maximum physical contact caused the Fated Mates bond to violently explode between them, sending a wave of liquid fire and desperate, possessive warmth straight through their veins. "The outer boundary walls have collapsed," Daudi hissed, his deep baritone dropping to a monstrous, gravelly snarl as his pitch-black eyes shifted into two bottomless voids of absolute fury. He looked down at her pale face, his jaw clenching so hard a low growl rippled from his chest. "Logan has used forbidden blood-sacrifices to shatter the ancient magical blood-wards. Their vanguard is breaking through the lower courtyard gates right now." "I am almost done, Daudi!" Kisa cried out, her silver eyes blazing with a fierce, kickass determination as she clutched his iron spaulders. "The collar is the final piece! I just need three more rows of stardust thread to seal the core! If you go out there without this vestment, your old soul-tether will detonate within minutes of entering the battle, and your beast will turn rabid!" "I cannot wait, Kisa," Daudi growled softly, a sudden, heartbreaking tenderness crossing his handsome features as he looked down at her. He raised one large, calloused hand, his gauntlet-free thumb gently tracing her sharp jawline. "Commander Kato’s frontlines are being overwhelmed by the sheer number of blood-frenzied wolves. If I do not join the vanguard at the steps, the palace will fall before your needle can finish the knot. I must hold the line." He began to pull his arms back, trying to step away from her space to draw his massive broadsword. "No!" Kisa roared. With an unshakeable, royal strength she didn't know she possessed, she boldly reached out and grabbed the heavy iron collar of his chest armor, violently pulling his massive frame back down into her personal space. The sheer audacity of her touch caught the Alpha King completely off guard. "You are not dying out there, and you are not turning into a monster," Kisa whispered fiercely, her lips mere millimeters from his jawline as their breaths mingled in the heated, tense space between them. The slow-burning fire of their connection was at an absolute, dangerous peak. "Sit in that chair. Give me your hands, Daudi. Let me draw from your reserves one last time. We finish this tether right now, or we both die on our feet." Daudi stared down into her wide silver eyes, watching the radiant, liquid golden stardust of her magic swirl beautifully around her skin, defying the darkness of the room. A dark, breathless smile of pure admiration and absolute devotion slowly curled his lips. His human mate had completely shed her victim mask; she was standing beside him as a true, unyielding Queen. "As my Luna commands," Daudi murmured, his rough voice tight with a fierce, desperate pride. He violently dropped into the obsidian chair by the loom. He slammed his bare palms flat over her raw, bleeding hands, locking their fingers together in an unbreakable, physical vice. The moment their skin fused, a brilliant, blinding dome of liquid golden light and deep violet shadow-magic violently erupted from the point of contact, completely sealing them away from the shaking world. The crimson embers in the hearth burst into a towering, beautiful purple flame that illuminated every corner of the room. Daudi unleashed his immense, dominant Alpha reservoir, pouring his raw power directly into her veins through the bond to act as a shield against her physical exhaustion. Kisa forced her eyes shut, leaning into his staggering strength. With his power backing her needle, she raised their joined hands and unleashed the ultimate depths of her forbidden gift. Instantly, the dark suite was illuminated by tens of thousands of radiant, dancing celestial sparks that cascaded down like a meteor shower. Thick ribbons of liquid cosmic silver unspooled directly out of the heavy air, rapidly guiding the needle through the final layers of the golden barkcloth collar. The fabric hummed a deafening, majestic note, absorbing his chaotic shadow-magic and locking his beast into a state of absolute, unbreakable peace. Outside, the heavy iron courtyard gates below violently groaned as the first wave of ten thousand feral wolves slammed into the inner defenses. The war of thrones had officially reached their doorstep, but inside the bedroom, the strings of destiny were finally tied.
