Eight: Worries!

1289 Words
A wolf shifts on the day of his or her birthday. Technically, a day begins at midnight so the celebrations usually start the night before one's birthday and end after he or she changed skin for the first time. It is Friday. Tonight, we will be celebrating Bridget's birthday. The party will start at eight in the evening. It's already seven but I am still in my bedroom. I am thinking whether to go all formal or not so I am not yet dressed. I am in my closet and is looking at the clothes that are hanged. I have been so busy with Bowen that I forgot to plan for this party. My brows furrowed when I heard my bedroom door opened and close. I sniffed the air. My lips automatically stretched into a smile. "Bowen," I whispered while looking at the closet's door waiting for him to appear. I heard his footsteps coming into my direction. In a few seconds, I saw him peeking at the door so I signed for him to come in. "Your family is already waiting downstairs." He said, walking in and looking me directly in the eyes. "I don't know what to wear," I whined and he chuckled. He looked at the clothes and ran his hands on it. "Do you need help?" "I think I do." "All right. Let me see." He said and started to check the clothes. Bowen picked a white v-neck cotton long sleeves, brown coat, black pants, and a pair of cream and brown brogue wingtip shoes. I put it on and was not disappointed at all. Bowen walked to me and fashionably folded the coat and pushed it back to my elbow revealing the cuff of my undershirt which he folded over the coat. After that, he put a watch with black bracelets and a long gold necklace with a round pendant around my neck. Then, he did wonders on my hair and pushed me to face the full-length mirror. My jaw literally dropped. "Wow!" He laughed. "You have a great sense of fashion." "I read a lot. It fascinates me. Too bad, I can't apply it to myself." I stared at him. "You can now." He nodded. "Yeah. Thanks to this pack." I beamed. "Would you like to come with me?" He shook his head and stepped back. "Omegas aren't allowed to attend--" "Yes?" I cut him off. "Oh!" He was lost for words when he realized what he was saying then started to laugh. I smiled and eventually started to laugh with him. I just can't help it. It's like we are one, and I want to spend every moment with him. This kind of thinking comes to me naturally when I am with him. But when I am alone, all these make me confused and scared. "Maybe next time." Bowen shrugged and grinned. "C'mon! Your family is waiting." We arrived at the pack house at five minutes before eight. There are a lot of people already. The party will be held at the open space around the pack house where all of the important events are held. My eyes roamed around the area. It is elegantly decorated. Long and round tables draped in gold and silver are placed aesthetically around the platform. Colorful paper lanterns are scattered around while some seem to be floating in mid-air. Flower arches are placed to form a short canopy where the celebrants will coming from when the party starts. There are eight celebrants today. Eight wolf shifters who might or might not meet their soul mates tonight. I suddenly thought of the things Rich and Marcela told me about the mate pull. They were sure that Fama and Bridget are mates because of how the former reacts and behaves recently. 'If that is what a mate pull is then, is Rain Bowen my mate?' My forehead creased at the thought. "Alpha Trevor." The deep raspy voice of Rich's dad pulled me out of my thoughts. "Beta Chad!" My dad replied. Smiling widely. "Luna." He greeted my mom as well, and then I and Adeline. Beta Chad led us to the table where we should be sitting. It is positioned near the stage. When I saw Rich and Fama sitting two tables from us, I excused myself and walk over to them. "Dude!" I greeted them. They both turned to me and nodded. I sat beside Fama and looked at him. He seems nervous. "Y'okay?" I asked. Rich laughed while Fama glared at him. "He's worried." Rich is still chuckling. "About what?" "What if I am not Bridget's mate?" Rich tried to mimic Fama who is obviously pissed but is too nervous to think of a comeback. "I thought he is already having the mate pull?" My confusion grew. "Well, yeah!" Rich agreed. "But it can also be other things. Like maybe, he just fell for Bridget all of a sudden." "What?" My voice turned out to be louder than I intended it to be. "What kind of sick joke is that?" Rich tapped my shoulder. "Hey, man! Relax! It rarely happens, alright? It's like ninety-nine percent of the time, the mate pull is accurate." I blew a breath of relief. Not sure if it's for Fama or mine. We tried to help Fama relax and divert his attention from Bridget. We ate and mingled with the pack members. It is actually quite fun. I never thought that I missed home this much. We were having a rather enjoyable conversation with our classmates when we heard Beta Chad spoke on the microphone. To be honest, there is no need to use those things since almost all of us here have super hearing abilities. We just make sure that we are familiar and used to these objects because we mingle with humans a lot. We don't want them to think that there is something unusual about us. "Good evening, Blood Pearl Pack!" Beta Chad started. "I know that you are all excited for our family members who are to come of age tonight. There are only five minutes left before midnight so I would like to call the eight celebrants up here on stage." Loud applause erupted from the pack as the eight pack members who will celebrate their birthdays walk to the platform. There were two boys and five girls including Bridget. They lined up beside Beta Chad as my dad and mom went up as well. Beta Chad gave the mic to my dad. "Blood Pearl Pack!" My dad began. "I am proud to present to you the eight new adult members of our family. In a few minutes, all or some of these wolves may or may not meet their mates. It would be great if their mates are also in this pack. But, - -" he looked at the celebrants who are also staring back at him."--worry not because the moon goddess always has a clear and amazing plan for each of us. We cannot wait to meet your wolves." He finished and smiled. As my dad gave the mic back to Beta Chad, the crowd went silent. When the clock struck twelve, loud gasps from different directions filled the air. I looked at Bridget who was one of those who let out a gasp. She has both her hands covering her mouth while staring wide-eyed at Fama. I glanced at the other seven and saw that most of them are gazing at different directions with the same reaction as Bridget except for the two girls near the edge of the platform. They are just curiously looking at their co-celebrants. A mix of loud ohs, gasps, and chuckles broke the silence. "Can't wait to have each other, huh?" Rich commented. Sounding amused. I turned to see him looking at something so I followed his gaze. Laughter rolled out my mouth when I saw Bridget with both her arms and legs wrapped around Fama and kissing him passionately. "So, the mate pull is accurate, after all."
