I pulled over in front of Rain's house. It's a narrow two-floor house painted in different tints and shades of yellow. There is a small front yard with a lot of plants that are well taken care of.
On the right edge of the yard is a two-seater steel swing with vines crawling its post. It is not the creepy-looking ones but more on the romantic side.
I stepped over the low wooden white fence and went to the swing. I pulled out my phone and dialed Rain's number before sitting down and putting the cake box beside me.
"Hey!" I said when he picked my call up.
"Hey!" He replied. "What's up?"
"I'm outside your house."
"What?" Shock was evident in his voice.
"Come out!" I demanded and ended the call.
In just a couple of seconds, I heard the front door open. Rain stepped out wearing a white shirt and pajama bottoms. He is staring at my SUV while taking very slow steps towards it. I grinned and sent him a text message.
On your left.
I saw him pulled his phone from his pocket and read it. He immediately turned to his left after seeing the message.
A wide smile crossed his face upon seeing me. He sauntered between the flowers to get to where I'm sitting.
"Hey!" His tone was soft and his eyes are shining. Must have been a reflection of the lights from the posts.
"From what do I owe this visit from the future alpha?" He stood in front of me. Grinning widely.
"You left school without telling me and you weren't answering your phone." The words came out like I am having a tantrum. His jaw dropped.
He just stared at me and it's making me feel uncomfortable so I glared at him.
He shook his head and sat beside me. The box of cake lying between us.
"Was I supposed to inform you that I was leaving school?" He whispered looking straight at the flowers in front of us. Rain seemed confused.
I cleared my throat. "No. Of course not. I just..." I stopped. Not knowing what to say.
His eyes suddenly met mine, making me dumbfounded. "You just what?" He probed.
I swallowed and looked the other way. "I just thought you were meeting me after your test so that we can have lunch with my friends. It's quite tiring y'know. Taking an examination can make you hungry."
"I see." I risked a glance and saw disappointment written on his face.
I leaned back and put my left leg over the other. "So, how was the test?"
"Fine. I guess!"
"And the results?"
"Mrs. Flores said she'll inform me tomorrow. Just not sure what time of the day."
I nodded. "So, what were you doing earlier? Why didn't you answer my calls?"
"You ask questions like you're my boyfriend." He sounded amused.
I know I should be offended by this remark but why am I not? Instead, I placed my right hand on the space between as and leaned closer to him.
Rain's eyes widened in shock. Our faces are just a couple inches from each other.
"Am I not?" I whispered softly while staring straight into his now confused eyes.
"What?" He whispered back. His face visibly turning red. I looked down to his nose to his slightly parted lips and saw how naturally moist and red it is, and I swallowed. My eyes followed as he nervously licked his lips and bit it. I can't help but lick my lips and bite it as well.
I forced myself to look back into his eyes. They are flashing with different emotions. Some of it I cannot name. I stared at his amber orbs and drowned myself into its depths.
I don't know how long we were like that. But if not for a sound of a car pulling over in front of their house then I wouldn't have pulled back.
A man and woman in their early forties came out of the red Volvo that parked in front.
"Those are my parents." Rain jumped up and pulled my right hand. "Come, I'll introduce you to them."
Mild sparks immediately fired up the moment his hands touched mine. Although I like how it feels, I deliberately pulled by hand back because I might not be able to control myself and put my arm around his waist so that I could feel his warmth against mine.
"Mom." Rain kissed her mother on the cheek then tapped his father's shoulder. "Dad."
His mother kissed him while his father just nodded before their eyes bore on me.
"Good evening." I greeted them with my best smile.
"Dad, mom, this Aidan Ruiz." Rain introduced me. "And these are my parents, Brent Alvez and Renee Vasquez."
I offered my right hand. "It is nice to finally meet you, Dr. Alvez and Ms. Renee."
"It's our pleasure, future Alpha." Dr. Alvez accepted shook my hand and smiled before I turned to Renee and greeted her.
"You can just call me Aidan," I told them as I step back on Rain's side.
"Such a nice young man. We already saw you during the birthday celebration last Friday. We just didn't find the right timing to introduce ourselves." Mrs. Alvez said in a high pitched but soft tone.
"You were there?" I was surprised then looked pointedly at Rain.
"They attended, I didn't." He quickly defended himself.
"Yes. He didn't." Renee backed her son. "He doesn't like socializing a lot."
"More like, he wasn't allowed so he was not used to it." Added Dr. Alvez but in a joking tone.
I turned my attention back to his parents and saw how normal their expression was like talking about these things that usually piss me off is an everyday thing.
"Anyway, have you had dinner? Would you like to join us?" Dr. Alvez asked me.
"I would love to. However, I was just about to go. Maybe next time?" I declined as politely as I can.
"Of course. You are always welcome here, Aidan." He kindly said.
"Yes, and thanks for sparing time for our son. He doesn't have a lot of friends in our previous pack." Renee added. A little emotional.
"Argh, mom!" Rain whined.
Renee giggled. "Sorry! I am just happy for you dear."
Rain just rolled his eyes. "Just get inside already."
His parents chuckled then excused themselves.
"Your parents are nice," I told Rain as we walk to my car.
"Indeed." He said proudly.
I smiled at his reaction.
"You haven't really told me why you came." Rain spouted when I was about to open the door.
I met his eyes. "I just want to check if you're okay."
"Oh!" He blushed.
I bit back a smile. "I'll be going. See you tomorrow."
"Alright, take care! Send me a message once you're home."
"You sound like a concerned girlfriend." I teased him which only made his cheeks redder. I laughed and hopped in the car.
"Bye, Rain! I'll send you a text, don't worry!" I told him playfully before closing the door.
