NINE: Cake!

1078 Words
It's the first day of school and Rain's assessment exams schedule. I am all fidgety and unfocused during class. Knowing that he's just around made me feel tense. Also, I want him to be in my class so I am kind of worried about how he would perform in his test. "Dude! Y'okay?" I heard Fama say so I glanced at him and was surprised to see him looking at me. I pointed to myself as I gave him a questioning look. He nodded and shot up his brows. Silently asking if I am fine. I grinned. "I'm fine, dude! Just thinking of some things." "Cool! Shall we go to the cafeteria? I'm famished." Rich butted in. "It's break time already?" I'm stunned. Rich and Fama stared at me. Dumbfounded. "Dude! Are you sure you're okay?" Rich frowned. "Of course. I was just thinking about my birthday preparation. My mom would kill me if something goes wrong." I explained. Making sure that they won't suspect a thing. They both nodded. "Well, I guess that's something to be worried about," Fama said. "Yup!" I stood up and pick up my backpack. "You guys go ahead. I just need to go to the restroom." "All right! We'll see you at the cafeteria." Rich replied while Fama nodded. I waited for them to go out the door and out of my sight before sprinting to the admission office. I peeked through the glass door to see if Rain is still there. The admission officer saw me and gestured for me to come in. "Do you need something, Aidan?" Mrs. Flores, a lady in her fifties, asked me. I smiled. "I was just wondering if Rain is still here?" She pouted. "Rain?" "Rain Bowen Alvez. The one who took an assessment test." I supplied the information she needs. Her eyes shone. "Ah, yes. Mr. Alvez. He finished the test an hour and a half earlier. That boy seemed smart." I beamed. Suddenly feeling proud. "But he left already." My face fell. "I see. I will just call him, then. Thanks, Mrs. Flores." I tried my best to give her a nice smile. The lady smiled back. "You're welcome." I opened my bag and fished for my phone while walking to the cafeteria. I browsed for Rain's contact numbers and hit the call button. It has been several rings but he's not answering his phone. I grimaced and tried until I reached our table in the cafeteria. "What took you so long, dude? Did you take a dump?" Fama asked, grinning. "Hey!" Bridget hit him at the back of the head. "Can't you see we're having lunch?" Fama scratched his head while Rich and Marcela laughed. I sat down and gazed at them while acting all sad and disappointed. "Now, I am the fifth wheel." All four of them looked at me with wide eyes then looked at each other before roaring in laughter. "Since when did things like this bother you?" Rich queried, still chuckling. "Just now. When I suddenly realized that you both have your mate." "It's your birthday in a week. Are you not having any mate pull or something?" Marcela asked. I fell silent. "Well?" Bridget's left brow shot up. "Well, no!" I breathed. "Maybe I will not be experiencing the mate pull, or maybe my mate isn't in the pack." "Or your mate hasn't turned eighteen, yet," Marcela added. "Yeah. It could also be that." I agreed. "We'll see about that, next week." Said Bridget and we all agreed. The afternoon passed by in a blur. I am kind of pissed because Rain hasn't even sent me a message. He might have seen my missed calls already. What the hell could he be doing? After class, Marcela asked me if want to join them. They're going to try a new cafe in town. "Are you enjoying seeing me fifth wheeling?" I asked her sourly. But she just laughed. "C'mon, dude! We just want you to come with us and enjoy." Rich replied. I scoffed. "Enjoy what? Staring at you lovebirds?" Rich shook his head while chuckling. "You don't have anything to do, anyway!" My right brow shot up. He sighed. "All right. We know you're busy. But you need to enjoy freedom while it lasts. You might be too busy to have fun when you become alpha." I exhaled sharply. "Fine." The new cafe we went to has a simple but elegant design. It is mostly painted in brown hues. The walls are filled with graffiti arts showing bits of information about coffee. There are also sandwiches, cakes, and desserts available. I opted for espresso and a slice of blueberry cheesecake. We just talked about random stuff while enjoying our food. Although I can't help but to frown and smirk at the sight of the two pairs who sometimes seem to forget that we are together in a public place. I guess that's just it when you're with your fated partner. You forget everything around you when you're with each other. Rain Bowen's delicate face suddenly appeared in my mind. I sighed and checked my phone when I felt its vibration. There's a message from Rain. Finally! Hey! You called? He asked. I grimaced. Well, are there missed calls registered on your phone? If there is, then maybe I called. He replied in an instant. But it was just a laughing emoticon. Where are you? I asked. At home. Why? "Is that the Luna? Is she asking you to come home?" Fama asked. Looking worriedly at me. I shook my head and smiled. "Nah!" "It's almost seven, anyway! I think we should go." Marcela has always been the responsible one in this group. We all agreed and were out of the cafe within a couple of minutes. "You guys go ahead. I'll just head back in and buy a cake." I told them which earned me curious looks from four pairs of eyes. "What?" I scoffed at them. They all just shrugged and grinned as if a choreographer told them to. I almost rolled my eyes. They all ambled to the parking lot. But when I was about to turn and go back to the shop I heard Fama whisper. "Do you think he's gonna buy cake for Adeline?" Rich snorted. "Adeline hates sweets. i***t!" "Then, do you think he'll buy a cake for himself?" "Fat chance!" "Then, for whom--" "Would you guys stop gossiping like some girl groups in school?" Marcela pulled both of the guys' ears. I chuckled. "Yeah! Especially if the person you're gossiping about can actually hear you!" I said out loud. The four of them turned to look at me. Marcela and Bridget giggling while Rich and Fama were grinning sheepishly. I lifted my hand and signed for them to go already then head back in the shop to buy a blueberry cheesecake.
