His hand slid down my belly and began to unbutton my jeans when we heard the front door slam shut and yelling. I quickly jumped from the bed, fixed my pants and headed toward the door.
Chase grabbed his jacket and followed me downstairs. There in the living room was Declan and Sophia in the midst of a very heated argument.
I turned and whispered to Chase. “You should go.” I kissed him quickly on the lips.
“Are you sure you are going to be OK?”
I smiled. “Yes, I am safe.”
He kissed me again and walked toward the door. I looked back to the living room only to see Declan staring right back at me. Man did he look pissed.
I tried to swallow, but my mouth felt dry. He turned and looked back at a very angry Sophia.
“It’s over, Sophia, and after tonight I no longer want you to contact me again.”
I watched as she grabbed her purse and rushed towards the door.
Before she left, she turned and looked at Declan. “You will never find anybody half as good as me. I am the best you will ever do.” She grabbed the door and slammed it behind her.
We stood in silence looking at each other. “I’m sorry you had to see that.” He said, running his hand through his hair. He looked tired and all I wanted to do was wrap my arms around him.
What the hell was wrong with me? I was just kissing Chase less than 10 minutes ago and now all I could think of was running my hands through Declan’s hair.
“It’s OK.” Was all I could manage to say.
“Did I….Did we interrupt anything?”
He looked upset and I didn’t want to lie to him, but how did I tell him I was making out with Chase?
“No…Nothing.” I whispered. Relief flooded his face and he smiled.
“It’s been a long night so….I should probably head to bed.” He said as he started walking toward me and the stairs.
“Or we could watch a movie?” I couldn’t believe the words as they left my mouth. I just knew I wanted to be in his company.
He smiled and shook his head. “A movie sounds good.”
We both changed and I found us sitting right next to each other on the couch. As the movie played, I found myself unable to focus on the movie. I glanced over to find Declan looking right at me.
“What?” I couldn’t help but ask. I felt as if something was on my face.
“Can I ask you a question?”
“Of course,” I said, but not really sure I wanted to answer him.
“You and that boy….”
“Chase?”
“Did you sleep with him?”
I could feel my face turn red and begin to burn.
“No…I am a virgin.”
“Good.” He said as he turned to look at the TV again.
“Why is that good?”
“He isn’t good enough for you.”
I don’t know why, but I felt angry and happy all at the same time.
“He is a good guy.” I said more defensively than I meant.
“I am sure he is, but you…you are amazing. I don’t think I have ever met somebody as strong.”
His hand cupped my cheek and I leaned towards him just hoping he would kiss me. But the kiss landed on my forehead and he stood.
“Goodnight Harper.”
Disappointment filled me. Again I realized I was just a child in his eyes. A foolish child, I am sure of it.
I don’t remember climbing the stairs and making my way to my room. It was almost as if I was on auto pilot. I felt overwhelmed by everything that happened tonight and my only escape was sleep.
The following morning, I found a note and list of tasks for me to finish next to my breakfast. Before I had a chance to eat, the door opened and in walked Luke. Looking ever so handsome with his award-winning smile. The two of us had become close. In fact, I considered him a close friend, but just a friend.
“Hey beautiful.”
“Good Morning Luke. What are you doing here?”
“The big guy sent me to pack him a bag. He is leaving early to spend time with his family for Thanksgiving.”
I no longer felt hungry and I felt a pain in my stomach. “Oh.” Was all I could manage to get out.
“Hey doll, don’t look so sad. He wanted to take you with him, but you know school and all.”
I just smiled. I don’t think Declan had planned to take me with him since he had not once said anything about Thanksgiving to me. Luke was just trying to make me feel better.
“Yeah, I mean I already have plans, so.”
“How about we hangout after work?” Luke asked, smiling at me.
“You don’t have to keep me company.”
“But I want to, pretty girl. Come on, don’t leave me hanging. Do you know what that would do to my ego?”
I couldn’t help but giggle. Luke was funny and every time we spoke he always knew what to say to make me smile.
“Fine.”
“Perfect! I will pick you up around 6 and doll, make sure to look super sexy.” He said as he winked.
I couldn’t help but feel a little giddy thinking about going out with Luke and, for a brief moment, I forgot about Declan leaving without even saying goodbye or even telling me he was leaving. I didn’t really have friends and in the short time I had known Luke I felt like he was a friend. I pushed my breakfast around on my plate for a few minutes before throwing it in the trash and starting on my tasks left to me by Declan.
It was noon when I realized my stomach was growling and I had finished the list of tasks and moved on to the following days' work.
I headed to the kitchen and decided to send Chase a message.
Me: ‘Hey! Sorry about last night.’
Chase: ‘Don’t worry about it. I haven’t stopped thinking about you.”
Me: ‘Oh yeah ;)’
Chase: ‘Caleb and Lisa want to double tomorrow since we don’t have school’
Me: ‘Sounds good”
Chase: ‘Pick you up around 6’
Me: ‘I can’t wait’
I expected him to message me back but nothing. I’m sure he was just busy.
As the evening approached, I became a bit nervous. I had spent way too long in the shower and found myself curling my hair. I applied my makeup and realized I looked sexy. I grabbed the only really sexy outfit I owned. I was a simple red dress. It had simple spaghetti straps and fit tightly.
As I zipped the dress I realized in the two weeks I had been living with Declan I had gained weight. For the first time, I had hips and an ass. They weren’t crazy curves but tiny ones and I had them.
I decided on black heals and as I walked down the stairs the bell rang and I made my way to the door.
