Before I could really register what was happening, I was on a plane and on my way to Declan. Since our call, it was the first time I had a chance to think and the one thing that stuck out was that he had been calling me.
I quickly looked under the blocked numbers and, sure enough, his contact had been blocked. Blocking a number isn’t the easiest thing to do and the only people that had access to my phone would have been Chase and Luke.
But I couldn’t think of a reason why either of them would block Declan’s number.
It was only a little over an hour to get to Vermont and it was so much colder here.
Before I made it to the baggage claim, Declan found me. He looked just as handsome as always. His long stride brought him to me in just a few steps and before I could say anything, he wrapped me in a hug.
“I am so glad you are here.” His deep voice sent shivers down my spine.
“Me too,” I whispered.
He pulled away slightly, letting his hand fall to my waist. I swear I felt sparks when he touched me. Was my crush that intense? I was feeling sparks?
“We should get your bags.” He said, dropping his hands completely from my body.
We made our way to the baggage claim and he picked up my suitcase and we made our way to the car.
“It’s almost a 3 hour drive so make yourself comfortable.” He said as we climbed into this SUV.
Before I could respond, his phone rang.
“Hey mom.” He said, smiling at me.
“I have her in the car right now.” I couldn’t help but blush a little bit. He did say his family knew all about me.
I watched as he listened to his mom talk.
“Yeah Mom. I know I will. OK, I will call you as soon as we check in. I love you.”
He hung up his phone and turned to me.
“Change of plans. There is a really bad storm and they have shut down all flights and my mom said the roads are really bad. Looks like we have to find a hotel for the night.”
“Oh OK.” I said, smiling softly. I can’t even remember the last time I spent the night at a hotel.
Before I knew it, we were pulling into a super fancy hotel. The valet took our keys and he grabbed my bags and his from the back.
“Why do you have a bag?”
“Oh, I always keep a bag with me when I’m home.”
I shrugged it off, but it did seem weird.
The lady at the desk seemed a bit flustered and even more when she saw Declan.
“I need two rooms for the evening.”
“Of course sir. Sorry we have been really busy since the airport shut down.”
We stood as she typed away on the computer.
“I only have one room left.” She said, looking between the two of us.
“We will take it,” he said without hesitation.
We silently made our way to the room we would share.
“I figured most hotels were booked and I didn’t want to take the chance.” He said, looking down at me.
“That makes sense and I don’t mind sharing a room.” I said, blushing a little.
Once in the room, we ordered room service and Declan quickly called his Mom.
Waiting for room service, my phone began to ring. I looked to see it was Chase calling me and ignored it but he kept calling back till I blocked him.
“Is everything OK?” Declan asked.
“Yeah. It’s just…. well, I was dating Chase and caught him cheating, so I ended it.”
Anger flickered across Declan’s face.
“He doesn’t deserve you. It’s for the best.”
“It still hurts.”
He looked over at me and smiled before pulling me in for a hug. I don’t know why, but being in his arms makes me feel safe and loved. I wish he would hug me more. Our hug ended too soon with a knock at the door.
Room service brought our food in and Declan tipped the man. After I ate way too much food, I really wanted to workout or go swimming, but didn’t have a suit.
“You look sad.” Declan said, looking at me curiously.
“I really want to go swimming but I didn’t pack a suit.”
“Well, let’s go get one.” He said, putting his hand out to me.
Placing my hand in his, I could swear I felt sparks again, but I’m sure it was my imagination.
This hotel was five stars and it was the fanciest place I have ever been. The shop located in the hotel made me feel very out of place but Declan didn’t give me the option to say no. He was busy looking for clothes of his own as I shuffled through the small selection of skimpy bathing suits.
I finally decided on a red two-piece that had more fabric than most but still was a tiny suit. I was too busy worrying about how I would look to notice how much Declan purchased till we were making our way back to our room with 4 bags full of clothes.
Once we were back in the room, I realized the only thing he purchased for himself was swimming trunks for the pool.
“What is all of this?” I asked, confused.
“You don’t have enough clothes. So I bought you more.” He said as if it was the most natural thing in the world.
I could’t help but giggle a little. “I was doing just fine, but thank you.”
He smiled down at me, causing butterflies in my belly. “You are welcome. Now get your suit on and let’s go swimming.”
I smiled and picked up the suit and made my way to the bathroom. I slid the bathing suit on and couldn’t help but spin in the mirror. The suit looked like it was made for me and I felt sexy. Walking out into the room, I could tell by the way Declan looked at me he felt the same way.
I could have sworn I saw his eyes darken to almost black, but I am sure it was just the light.
“Ready?” He said, handing me the bathing suit cover he purchased. I nodded my head and slid it on and as we made our way to the pool.
Once in the pool room, Declan quickly stripped down to his swim suit. The already hot and thick air of the room seemed to instantly get hotter. I had to remind myself to breathe. I swear he smirked as he jumped into the water.
Once he surfaced, he wiped his face and smiled at me. “Coming?”
Oh the dirty thoughts that ran through my head and I quickly removed the cover and joined him in the pool.
The cold water was a welcome feeling which seemed to calm my raging hormones. After multiple laps in the cold water, I found myself sitting on the side of the pool.
“Want to try out the hot tub?” Declan asked as he stepped out of the pool. I watched as the water ran down his perfectly sculpted body.
“Yeah.” I said, trying to sound confident but failing.
