I Think It's Time

Serenity Pov "Serenity, I know you wanted more time but Selene isn't showing any signs of summoning a spirit," my mother was heartbroken. I knew she wanted to wait and see too but Selene wasn't improving and she wasn't showing any sign of having powers. My mother had to announce an heir. There has never been any doubt since no Phoenix King ever had more than one child but now my mother had two. I wanted to believe that Selene really didn't care and would be fine with me being the next Phoenix King. Finally announcing it makes it real, makes it permanent. I don't want to hurt her feelings because it would ultimately hurt mine. "I think it's time," my mother said. "I need to announce it to our people. They have a right to know and know that our galaxy will continue to be safe." "I know mother but please just give me some more time," I pleaded. "I will give you until the water spirit festival," I nodded and left to go find Selene. As I opened Selene's door, I saw her sitting on her bed looking at a hologram. "Hey, I remember that day," I smiled. "Mother took us to visit Aero and he let us ride on Diamond and Emerald." "It was so much fun," Selene smiled slightly. "I begged mother to get us a Griffith of our own." I laughed and went to sit beside Selene. "What's wrong?" I asked her. "Nothing, I just wonder if mother really believes in me and that I might have a chance to be a spirit holder," I held Selene's hands. "Of course she does. She believes in you and so do I. You would make a wonderful Phoenix King," I told her. "Yeah right, I don't have what it takes. Even if I had a spirit power how could I protect our people," Selene hugged me so I just hugged her back. I knew she was worried but I would wait until I knew there was little to no hope. I went outside and walked to the gardens. V and Cloud were training together. "Hey, can I join you two?" I asked my fathers. They smiled and waved me over. I knew they enjoyed training me and wished I had stayed here to let them continue my training instead of going to the spirit temple to train. I kind of wish I hadn't left either but I know it was the best thing to do for Selene. As I fought my fathers, I tried to use all my spirit powers at the same time. I still hadn't mastered that and my mother said to not worry that it might be a skill I would learn when I become the Phoenix King. V also taught me how to fight with a sword. When we were done training V and Cloud told me stories of there past. My favorite stories were always about my grandfather Alexander. He was so courageous and brave. Selene loved hearing the stories about Alexander and our grandmother Selene and how their love conquered all. I think that is why she became such a sucker for love. I looked at my grandfather as an example of how brave I want to be. I want to be powerful and strong but I don't need anyone by my side to do it. We spent the entire time we had with our parents. We went to visit Caligo and got to see Aero. We went to Nem to witness the first snow showers of the season. With each passing time, we knew we soon would have to go back to the spirit temple and finish our training. "I can't believe you two have to go already," our mother said sadly. She gave us both a hug and walked us to the ship. Our fathers hugged us both repeatedly and then finally let us go. "We will be back in no time," I said. "We can't wait and we know Selene will have her spirit by then," V cheered. I looked over at her and she had an indifferent expression on her face. Her father's declaration made her happy. I could feel it but she also was worried and didn't want to come back home and prove him wrong. We got back to the spirit temple and since then Selene has been nonstop training. She visits the spirit shrine every day.  She has been training to fight with a sword. All the masters have been helping her out day and night. She was ready to start fighting real opponents in no time. Unfortunately, I felt something was wrong. She had fought five spirit holders in a sword duel and she won every time. I didn't know who started it but someone was doing this on purpose and letting her win. The minute I realized it I went to the head master and told him about what I noticed. "Master Neso, you have to do something," I argued. "You know the other masters are doing this but you won't stop it." "Your sister deserves a chance to feel like she is accomplishing something." "Your lying to her and how is that helping her find her spirit," I yelled. "I know why your upset but your mother thinks it is for the best," he explained. "My mother, Do you think this is what the spirits want?" I told him. "You stop this or I am going to tell Selene the truth." "Serenity, the truth is you were the one chosen to be the next Phoenix King and your sister is was not," Neso told me. "It was the will of the spirits. You know it, and your mother knows it. She wants us to stop because she knows your Selene is weak and perhaps not worthy of a spirit." "WHAT!" I heard Selene's broken voice. She wanted to cry and her heart broke at that very moment. She ran off and I ran after her. "Selene," I called out. "No, leave me alone," she yelled out. "I want to go. I want to go home or just away from everything and everyone." "Selene. Wait, please," I chased her all the way to the ship. "Selene you don't know how to pilot this ship." "I don't care. I may be good for nothing but I will figure it out and leave for good," she cried out. "Selene please," I begged. I felt the ship move and it soon took off. "Selene, be careful." I fell as Selene caused the ship to move vertically. I looked over at Selene and she was pushing button after button. I had little knowledge of how to fly our ships but Selene had none. I felt the ship go faster then I have ever felt it move in my life. "Where did you set the location too?" I asked Selene. Selene didn't answer me. "Selene." "I don't know, somewhere on the other side of the universe."
