Selene Pov
I was the only one excited during the ride to school. I was practically jumping in my seat. The minute we got there Janet walked us to the office. Her friend was in the office and they talked for thirty minutes. She soon came back out and gave us a piece of paper with our schedule. Janet said for the most part Serenity and I would be in the same classes. Janet wished us good luck and had Chris and Derek show us to our lockers. I wanted to put my entire bookbag in there but Serenity said I was going to need some of the things inside. Serenity looked upset since she woke up. As we walked down the halls, we noticed everyone staring at us.
"Don't worry, they're probably all staring at your sister's freaky eyes," Chris joked.
"Her eyes are beautiful," I remarked.
"Yeah, they are," Derek added but Chris just pushed him into the wall.
"What's up with her hair," a girl passing by said. I got nervous and looked at the ground but suddenly I heard a boom and I looked behind us. The girl had fallen on her face.
"The wind must have pushed her," Serenity remarked. I knew what must have happened so I looked away. All kids in the hall were laughing, even Chris and Derek giggled a little. Chris showed us were our first class was and then left as he was not in that class with us. The other kids were looking at us. I had my worried expression while Serenity looked angry. The teacher tried to get us to tell them a little about us but Serenity stayed quiet while I just stood there panicking.
"What's up with these two," a girl said loudly. She was about to sip on her water but threw it in the air. "What the hell, it's so hot." I looked over at Serenity and she was smiling.
"Serenity stop, please," I whispered to her as we took our seats.
"They are asking for it," she said. "I am the future Phoenix King, I won't let these people say anything bad about us."
"I don't think it means you have to burn them. You know you can't abuse your power. That makes you no better than dark spirit holders," I reminded her.
"I am hardly a dark spirit holder for playing a few harmless pranks on them," she said. I guess she was right but I was worried she would lose control and really hurt someone. We sat in class for a very long time. These lectures and reading were really boring. I know we didn't know much about Earth and it's history but it was very confusing and terrible. We then went to our next class and a lot of boys were staring at us. They mostly stared at Serenity but she barely looked at them. When we finally had a class with Chris and Derek. Chris sat next to me and Serenity on my other side. Derek sat behind Serenity and talked to her the entire time. We actually had an astronomy class, Serenity looked unamused and I was kind of wondering if they really believed what they were learning. I mean they had no idea what was really out there. We soon had lunch and again sat with Derek and Chris. A few girls came over to us and started to argue, I wasn't actually sure why.
"You two thing your so cute," one girl said.
"Just know, that guy over is my bf so stay away," another said.
"You two are just freaks so know your place," The girl tried to grab my hair but Serenity stopped her midway. Serenity looked her in the eyes.
"Look freak, don't touch me," the girl tried to get out of Serenity's grip but she couldn't. "Your eyes are scaring me."
"GOOD!," Serenity said. "Stay away from my sister and be very careful and be sure to stay away from me." She let go of the girl's hand and sat back down.
"Damn that was badass," Derek said.
"You made her cry," Chris said after he noticed I began to cry.
"Don't be weak Selene, you know what that can cost you," Serenity got up and left after that. Chris stayed comforting me. School was almost over and Derek suggested we walk home. We all agreed even though Serenity was quiet the entire time. She walked behind us the entire time. We were close to going home but we passed a small church. It didn't look like it was open or kept up. It looked run down and abandoned. I turned around and noticed Serenity staring at it intently.
"Hey, what's wrong," I asked her.
"You don't feel it," she whispered. I honestly didn't know what she was talking about.
"Look at the markings on the stain glass windows, those are spirit symbols," she said anxiously.
"It can't be," I said in disbelief.
"I feel them," she replied. "I FEEL THEM."
"Hey, what's the hold-up," Chris shouted. Chris and Derek ran back to where we were.
"You coming any time soon?" Derek asked.
"Do you know anything about this church?" I asked Chris.
"No, it has been abandoned for as long as I can remember," he said.
"I need to go inside," Serenity said.
"Um, I don't think you can," Derek answered her.
"It's not a good idea, let's just go home," Chris stated.
"I AM GOING IN THERE," Serenity shouted. " I have to." Chris looked over at Serenity and saw how desperate her eyes looked as did I. I knew what she must have been thinking. This could be a way of getting us back home and it was a way for her to feel close to home even if it gave her no answers.
"Chris," I grabbed his arm and pulled him away from her. "Let her do this, please." Chris looked up at me and grabbed my chin.
"Fine," he smiled softly at me but then looked back at Serenity with concern in his eyes.
