Serenity Pov
Janet was overly excited today. It had been 3 days since I found Selene. She was happy for me and didn't mind her staying with us. Janet was such a kind woman. I was getting worried though. As more time passed, the more I thought we would never return home.
"Girls, come downstairs please," Janet called from the foot of the stairs. I grabbed Selene's hand and ran to the hallway and down the stairs.
"What's wrong?" I said.
"Why would anything be wrong," she said. "I just have some news." I looked at Selene and then back to Janet.
"Okay," I said hesitantly.
"Well, I have a close friend in the administration's office at the kid's school," Janet began to look nervous. "So, starting tomorrow you two will go to highschool with Derek and Chris." I again looked over to Selene. I couldn't tell whether or not Selene was okay with this or not.
"Are you two okay with this," Janet asked. "I mean I just figured since you have been here almost a month you can go to school and have some normalcy back in your lives." She thought that would be normal for us. I was a bit annoyed but I didn't want to disobey Janet. She gave us shelter and food. She is a kind person and thinks we are from this planet. I cannot be a bad guest and tell her no. I smiled as best I could.
"Then we can go shopping later," Janet said. "We need clothes more appropriate for your age." We had some lunch and then got dressed with some more of Max's clothes and headed to the mall. All the kids wanted to go but it was a tight fit in the car.
We walked into the mall and Janet took the lead. She headed into a shop that looked colorful and bright.
"Let's go, girls," she was smiling from ear to ear. "Pick out whatever you want."
"Mom, you should reconsider this," Chris said with a scowl on his face.
"It's fine," Janet grinned back. Selene and I looked out of place and confused. "I'll pick out a few things then." Janet hurried into the racks and picked and pulled many options.
"How about this?" Derek held up a short dress. "It would look incredible on you Serenity." I let out a small laugh while Chris smacked the dress out of Derek's hands. I knew my father would disapprove of me wearing any dress at all. I laughed at the thought but really I just wanted to see him again.
"You okay?" Chris asked. I hadn't realized my expression had changed.
"Yes," I said as I went after Janet and Selene. They somehow managed to make it across the store to the fitting rooms. Janet handed some clothes to her and closed the door. A few minutes later, Selene stepped out wearing a nice simple yellow dress.
"Wow," Chris said as Derek grabbed him in a headlock.
"Like what you see bro," Derek joked. I looked away from them as I noticed Selene's facial expression change.
"You look nice," I told her. She smiled at me and said thank you.
"Are you going to try anything on," Janet asked.
"I will happily receive whatever you picked out," I told her.
"I want to make sure it fits," she said. I sighed and went into a fitting room. I sat down on the bench for a few seconds.
"I just want to go home," I closed my eyes and tried to focus. I tried on all the clothes and then walked out.
"You didn't show us," Derek whined and even Janet looked sad.
"Sorry, but they all fit," I said.
"Good," Janet smiled. She took the clothes and went to go pay. Chris looked agitated again. I walked ahead to avoid him but I noticed he stayed behind with Selene.

"You looked nice," Chris said.
"Thank you," I was happy but still scared of him.
"So, tell me about yourself," Chris seemed genuinely interested. I didn't know what to say or what not to say.
"I like to travel and read," I said thinking it was safe to say these things.
"Cool, I have never been anywhere. I would love to travel the world," I smiled and thought he would faint if he found out I traveled to other planets and across the universe.
"So, is your sister always so grumpy?" he asked.
"She is a loner, you would say. She is magnificent though, strong and smart," I knew I was smiling but I loved my sister.
"Your not so bad yourself. I think you're magnificent," Chris said.
"You don't really know me and compared to Serenity," I sighed "Trust me, I am nobody." He took my hand and kissed it.
"Everyone is someone, you just need to figure that out," he said. I appreciated his words but they didn't change the fact that I was right. We all went to go eat at a food court in the mall. Everything looked so different and simple here. I sat next to Chris and Serenity. They both glared at each other the entire time. I knew Serenity didn't want me to get close to Chris but he is nice. I guess I was looking forward to tomorrow.
I hardly slept, knowing I was going to be going to highschool. Serenity said it had to be like training at the spirit temple but I felt like it would be so much better. I got dressed and wore that yellow dress I tried on yesterday. Serenity was wearing jeans and a white crop top. She looked incredible but she felt awkward and thought she looked like a fool. We were used to seeing our mother wear things that showed off her skin and many attributes but we were not allowed to by request or demand of our fathers. The minute Derek and Chris saw her I knew I was right. Chris complimented me again and it made me happy. I was anxious to head out and go to this high school place.
