Serenity Pov
I was getting anxious and angry at all this time passing and no news, no sign of any kind. I was worried but I didn't want Selene to see me worried. We woke up on a day we didn't need to go to high school. I was grateful for the two days off but it was bored having nothing to do at home.
"Hey, Serenity we are going to the mall. Want to come?" Max said. I didn't want to go but it was better than staying at home. I looked for Selene to ask her to come along but I saw her talking to Chris. I wanted to go over there and see what they were speaking about but I knew it was rude. I went into the kitchen with Max and grabbed a peach. I began to like these simple foods called fruits. They were sweet and tasty. Selene finally came over after she was done talking to Chris.
"Serenity, Chris asked me to go with him to something called the movies," she grinned. I tried to smile but I think I still looked annoyed and agitated.
"Okay," I said simply.
"OMG, he asked you out on a date," Max chimed in.
"A what?" Selene asked.
"A date? Is it your first date?" Max questioned.
"Yes," Selene said softly.
"OMG, I knew Chris liked you," Max giggled. "We have to go find you something to wear." Max pulled Selene by the arm and dragged her upstairs.
"Oh the other dress you got at the mall will be perfect," Max said as she pulled it out of the closet. "What do you think?" Selene said she liked it and went to go put it on. Max was just as excited as Selene was. Max helped Selene do her hair and all of this brought back memories of Samantha and Venus. They were my mother's handmaidens and very good friends of hers. They helped us get dressed and were confidants to both me and Selene. I really do miss everyone back home. I was brought out of my daze when Chris knocked on the door. He got dressed differently too. He smiled the minute he saw Selene and then looked at me and dropped his smile.
"Shall we go," Chris said. Selene smiled and walked behind him. I was nervous for her. She wasn't used to going out alone or without me. Max and Derek came to get me fifteen minutes later and after I got dressed we headed to the mall.
"Max is going to run off to the make-up counter so don't get upset or anything," Derek said.
"No worries," I said. He winked at me and told me to follow him. As he led me to the unknown I saw a cute little animal. It began to sniff my shoe and looked very excited to see me.
"It is so cute," I said.
"His name is Duke," the woman walking it said. "Do you have a dog?"
"Um no, but I would love one," I replied. I brushed his fur a bit more until we continued going where Derek led me.
"Here," Derek handed me a cup of some green goo.
"What is this," I asked.
"Frozen yogurt," Derek said.
"Oh, okay," I took a small bit of it and tasted it. It was delicious.
"Good? Right?" Derek said.
"Very good," I smiled.
"You have a pretty smile when you actually choose to smile," Derek remarked. "So what's your favorite animal? Dog?" I thought about the dog I had just seen and then thought about Diamond and Emerald.
"Griffins," I answered.
"Huh?" Derek said confused.
"Oh, I um, read a lot and well they seem really cool," I said nervously. "I like dogs." Derek looked at me and then just burst out laughing.
"You're so weird," he said as he motioned me to follow him. "So your sister is on a date with Chris."
"I guess," I said coldly.
"Are you jealous?" Derek asked.
"What? no, why?" I was angry and not trying to be annoyed at his question.
"Well okay," Derek said looking away from me. "So has she had a boyfriend before."
"Uh," I didn't know how to answer that. I mean I knew but I was wondering why he was asking me all of this. Or why he cared.
"No, but it's complicated," I said.
"Your both seventeen, right?" Derek said. "You have never had a boyfriend."
"Are you asking about me or Selene?" I questioned. "I have more important things to do then go out with a boy."
"Oh really, well your out right now with me," Derek said. I smiled and pushed him lightly.
"Chris shouldn't get attached to Selene," I said out of nowhere.
"Well, you should say that to Selene as well. She seems to enjoy spending time with him too," Derek said. I knew he was right. Selene was getting too comfortable here. I needed to keep Chris away from her but I knew I could end up hurting my sister in the process.
"Derek," Chris said angrily.
"Hey bro," Derek grinned. "What's up."
"What are you two doing?" Chris asked harshly.
"We are on a date," Derek said amused. "This is Serenity's first date. I wanted to make it special." I looked over at Chris and saw the anger in his eyes.
"Serenity, did you ask my mother if you could go out?" Chris said still annoyed but I wasn't sure at what or who.
"I-," Chris didn't let me finish.
"You can't just leave the house without permission and this jerk doesn't always ask her for it," Chris said.
"Dude, chill out, We are here with Max and your mother knows," Derek said less humorlessly.
"Whatever," Chris huffed. He finally paid attention to Selene and grabbed her hand and led her away. She looked just as confused as us. Derek and I went off to look for Max. We headed back home as soon as we found her.
"Hey, I am going to stay outside for a bit," I told Derek. He nodded and went inside.
