The Surveillance, Part 1

324 Words
The next morning, Ava arrived at the office earlier than usual. Her body ached in places she hadn’t felt in years, but it was the silence that unsettled her most. The hallway was too quiet. The glances from coworkers too sharp. Something had shifted. She opened her inbox. Another flagged alert. Unauthorized access detected. Surveillance logs breached. Her stomach dropped. She clicked through the report. Someone had accessed the security footage from Damien’s private elevator. The timestamp matched the night she’d gone up. The night she hadn’t come back down until morning. Someone knew. She locked her screen and stood, heart pounding. She needed air. She needed clarity. But most of all, she needed to know who was watching. Damien was already waiting in his office, his expression unreadable. “You saw it,” he said. “I did.” “Do you know who?” “No,” she replied. “But someone’s getting bold.” He stood, walked to her, and cupped her face gently. “I won’t let them touch you.” “You already have,” she whispered. His lips met hers again, but this time it was different. Urgent. Protective. Possessive. Their bodies collided, but the tension wasn’t just erotic it was laced with fear. With danger. With the knowledge that their secret was no longer safe. As he undressed her, his touch was rougher. His mouth more demanding. He kissed her like he was trying to claim her all over again. Like he was trying to erase the eyes that had seen too much. She responded with equal intensity, her body rising to meet his, her nails digging into his back. They moved together in a frenzy, desperate and raw. Afterward, they lay tangled in silence. “We need to find out who it is,” she said. “We will,” he replied. “But first, we need to decide how far we’re willing to go.”
