The Leak

The morning after was quiet. Too quiet. Ava sat at her desk, fingers hovering over the keyboard, but her mind was still tangled in the night before. The way Damien had touched her. The way her body had responded like it had been waiting for him. The way he hadn’t just taken her, he had studied her, unraveled her, made her forget everything but him. She could still feel him. Not just on her skin, but in her thoughts. In the way her breath caught when she remembered his mouth on her neck. His fingers tracing her thighs. The way he had whispered her name like it was a secret he didn’t want anyone else to know. But secrets had a way of slipping. Her inbox pinged. Subject: URGENT — Internal Security Breach She opened the message. It was from IT. A flagged alert. Someone had accessed her personnel file. Not HR. Not Damien. Someone else. Her pulse quickened. She clicked through the logs. The access had come from an unregistered device. Late at night. After she’d left his penthouse. Someone was watching. Damien’s office was darker than usual. The blinds were drawn, the lights dimmed. He stood by the window, arms crossed, jaw tight. “You saw the alert,” he said. “I did.” “Do you know who it was?” “No,” she replied. “But I have a guess.” He turned to face her. “Say it.” “Someone who doesn’t want us to stay hidden.” His eyes narrowed. “Then we’ll make them regret it.” She stepped closer. “This isn’t just about us anymore.” “It never was.” He reached for her hand, fingers brushing hers with a softness that contradicted the steel in his voice. “I won’t let anyone touch you,” he said. “You already have,” she whispered. Their lips met again, slower this time. Not rushed. Not desperate. Just inevitable. His hands slid beneath her blouse, fingers tracing the curve of her spine. She gasped as he pulled her closer, his mouth finding hers with a hunger that felt like possession. Her body melted into his, and the world outside disappeared. But just as quickly, he pulled back. “Not here,” he said. “Not now.” She nodded, breathless. But the damage was done. The desire was reignited. And the danger was growing.
