My Mystery Mate

Chapter 10

We run towards the repulsive scent. The full moon shining down on us I can't help but think the moon goddess is with me. “Spread out work in 2's. Kill any vampire you see. Leave the Sire to me”. I say through the pack link “Melody take control I say”.

“Jake, Sophie, Bethan protect the pack house”

I slow as I come to a clearing where 3 vampires stand

“Keep an eye out there are more” I say to the pack via our link “I can smell them”.

“Ow look at the little mutt” the tall gangly man in the centre says i assume he is the Sire. “Where's your Alpha pup”

“Your looking at her” I growl “you must be the Sire to this pathetic bunch” I add.

Laughter erupts from them “You an Alpha please don't make me laugh”.

“What do you want? You are on private land” i growl as i'm getting impatient with them

“Well it's quite simple what I want is to kill every last mut in our town” he says as he looks me dead in the eye. He lunges forward to attack. I see the glint of a silver knife he has pulled from the pocket in his jacket.

“Pack keep an eye on them, they all have silver knives” I warn I attack knocking him to the ground. I am soon involved in a fight against the 3 that had stood before me. Each one attacking I do my best to block. I hear the pack fight on some whimper in pain others growl and howl in triumph. The fight is bloody and gets harder as the battle goes on I grip one of the vampires and rip their head clean off. “1 down 2 to go” I joke.

As I lunge for the Sire I feel a sharp shooting pain in my left shoulder. The other vampire stabbed me with his silver knife. I drag him from behind me as he comes around he slices his blade across my stomach. I tear at him until there is nothing but a pile of blood and body parts thrown over the clearing. I can feel the silver coursing through my body and I can feel myself get weaker. I collapse as I transform back left naked on the ground. There is no doubt in my mind that I am done for when a large black wolf quite possibly bigger than mine jumps in front of me "mate" melody whispers as we meet darkness. Heat and warmth flow through our now naked body. The warmth helps ease some of the pain, it doesn't last long as i am soon cold again.

Nicholas pov

I follow Isla wanting to stay close to her when I encounter a lone vampire who attacks trying to hit me with silver. He fails finding himself headless another vampire comes in and finds himself heartless as I rip it from his chest cavity. I follow Islas scent to a clearing where I see her get stabbed with what looks like a silver blade I run for her as Caesar wimpers. “Mates hurt”. She tears the vampire to pieces flinging it all over the clearing when she stumbles and starts to transform back she hits the floor collapsing naked. She needs me. The Sire makes his way towards her, he doesn't see me when. I jump between them ripping his head clean off. Not taking any chances I dissect him further. I turn to see my mate laying naked bleeding on the ground. I change back putting on my trousers that I had tied around my leg as quick as I could. I pick her up in bridal style and run to the pack hospital. Bursting through the doors I call for help

“What happened” exclaimed the pack doctor I tell her everything I know

“Put her here we need to treat her now and possibly take her to surgery”

“I need you to leave “ the doctor orders.

“I can’t”

“I need to work, now go”. She orders again.

I let go of her hand no longer feeling and easing her pain. I head over to the pack house to find Lynnett and John to inform them of what has happened to Isla when I get to the house there are bodies everywhere the sun is slowly rising. Lynnett is sat on the ground cradling a figure

"Lynnett" I call running to her praying it's not John in her arms. Looking down at the person in her arms I see it is one of the girls Isla had been dancing with. "Are you alright?"

Lynnett looks up into my eyes tears rolling down her face. “They took John”, she sobs “Nick you are covered in blood are you okay?”.

“Yes I'm fine it's Islas blood she was stabbed I took her to the hospital but they told me I had to leave”. She stands and I know I have to tell her “she's my mate. Your beautiful courageous daughter is my mate” I say looking at the ground I feel an unusual sensation my eyes glaze over as tears form in the corners of my eyes. Suddenly there are hands around me.

“Oh Nick you have saved her twice now. I'm so happy it's you I know John will be as well we just need to get him back. I will warn you though she is going to be a handful” we both chuckle. She grabs my hand and drags me back to the hospital. She barges her way into the room in which Isla is being treated. The doctor goes to send us out but “you dear tell me or Islas mate to leave I will have your head” she warns the doctor backs off slowly. We both take a seat next to Isla I reach out and take her hand just hoping I can ease her pain. Both caesar and I whimper seeing her like this. “ what's the matter with her” Lynnett says trying not to cry.

“She is currently in a coma I don't know for how long, I had to remove a piece of silver that was lodged in her shoulder blade. But she is strong.” I will stay by her side until she wakes. 2 days pass and she is still unconscious.

“Nick you need to go take some rest. You also have a business to run. I will ring you the second anything changes”.

“But i don't want to leave, she still hasn't seen my face Lynnett, we danced together but when she tried to turn I held her where she was. It just felt so right her being pressed against me”

“Nick dear she will be fine I promise I will be here with her”. I stand pressing a kiss to the back of Islas han and place her hand back by her side. Walking to the door another whimper leaves my body as I turn back to see my mate laying there knowing there's nothing I can do.

Isla POV

I slowly open my eyes and I hear mother on the phone. I try to sit up but feel pain in my shoulder and across my stomach I look down and see the bandages. “Melody” I call my wolf “I'm here” she says sounding weak. I give a sigh of relief.

“Isla your awake, ow my darling girl your awake”. She pulls me up into an embrace as I whimper with pain. “Oh I'm so sorry” my mother says, loosening her grip. “You have had me so worried 3 days you have been here I just want to take you home”.

The door opens and in walks Lucy the pack doctor. She bows her head “It's good to see you awake Alpha”

“Lucy call me by my name please. Tell me what happened”.

“Well you were cut and stabbed with silver meaning your wolf couldn't heal you. Speaking of your wolf is she with you” I nod as she carries on. “You have spent the last 3 days in a coma we had to remove a piece of silver that was lodged in your shouldreblade. All of your vitals seem fine. I have 1 test left to run and if this comes back okay you can return home but you have to rest no excitement” I see my mother's face change almost to disappointment.

“Mate” I say looking around the room “mum where's my mate. I want to see him. I don't even know who he is, but he saved me again”.

“Ow but you do Isla, he's wonderful and is an Alpha himself” she winks.

“Great you get to speak to him but I don't”. I turn over forgetting my side is still wounded as I whimper

“Be careful. There is someone here to see you”. She opens the door and in comes Jake. I will leave you to it. I have a call to make.

“Isla you are okay you had me really worried”.

“You wont make Alpha that easy, it will take more than a few vampires” i joke. Half an hour of chatting with Jake is gone in no time.

The door opens again “Well Isla good news you can go home bad news is that you have to rest for another week that means no training no heavy lifting just rest”. I roll my eyes “I mean it isla or it's going to take you longer to heal”

“Okay I will do my best to rest”. I say crossing my heart we all laugh. Jake hands me the clothes my mum asked him to get on his way over and leaves the room so I can change. Once I have on my yoga pants and pink jumper we walk out to the car where my mother is waiting.

“There is a bath drawn for you as soon as you get home so you can have a rest”

“Personally I'm not so worried about relaxing. I smell and need to freshen up. Is dad there? It was odd he hadn't been there when I woke”

“No he's not. Don't worry about that I will tell you all when you're better”. She says trying to sound positive but I know she is keeping things from me but I don't argue I just get in the car and look through the window on the drive back to the car. I get out of the car and head straight to his office to see papers everywhere he must be working on something big and haven't seen his office this messy in quite some time. I turn and head up stairs to my bathroom as I remove my clothes I inspect my body looking at each cut and its depth. I close my eyes as tears start to fall. I climb into the hot water that stings the wounds to begin with. After a bit of adjustment the water begins to soothe them. I drift to the thought of my mate. Why did he leave my bed side? Maybe he doesn't want a mate covered in scars. The water starts to turn cold so I climb out and find some loose fitting pajamas as I go to leave my room I am marched to my bed by my mother.

“Rest that means in your bed”. I know it's no use arguing with her. I listen and climb in. She sits next to me and plays with my hair until I'm asleep.

Nicholas

I've been going crazy pacing my office waiting for a call. I need to see her, touch her. A ringing breaks my train of thought. My phone I run to it and answer without looking at the caller ID

“Yes” I say holding my breath.

“She's awake” the voices says as I grab my jacket

“I’m on my way”

“No Nick you can't her wounds are still open and she needs to rest she can't have any excitement doctors orders. She did ask for you as soon as she woke and you weren't there she could sense your presence. I'm hoping to take her home today”.

“But I need to see her”

“I know it won't be long. I promise, give her today and tomorrow and we will see how she is then”.

“Thank you Lynnett” I say, hanging up the phone. I begin to pace again this time more at peace.

She's awake, she's going to be going home, we can relax now. Everything will be okay. I push Caesar back as I know he won't leave me alone until I'm with her. For now I need to get on with work. And cancel my flights back home Isla needs me here.

At around 2 I head home for the day unable to concentrate on any work. I try to entertain myself with TV books but nothing works so I shower and go for a run hoping to clear my head of the mate I still haven't met properly.
