My Mystery Mate

Chapter 6

I drove the entire way home furious with myself how could I let him get that close. Without a word as I barge through the door I go straight up the stairs not even acknowledging my parents I go straight into my room and into a burning hot shower scrubbing my body still feeling his breath on my skin and his hand on my hip. I whimper with pain but I keep scrubbing at my skin until I feel it has become red raw. I turn the shower to cold allowing it to soothe the inflamed skin. Once I am done I leave the shower and walk into my room to find my mother perched on the sofa

"What has happened dear?” She looks at me concerned. I lower my head, I know she can see the redness of my skin. “Isla please talk to me”

I look my mum dead in the eye “I'm quitting the athletics team”

“Why? What has happened? I thought you loved it”

“That no good loser of a coach put his hand on me. None is to put their hands on me like that. He's not my mate”. I snap shocked at what I have just said I wasn’t bothered about having a mate now it's all I can think of.

“He did what” I could see my mother's eyes change.

“Mum it's okay, I'm fine some guy helped me and dragged him away before I did something dangerous”.

“Wait a man helped you? Your mate you've met your mate?” she gasps “ What did he look like? What’s his name? When do I get to meet him?”

“What? No! Why would you say that?” I stuttered. I know I had thought that. "He didn't smell like my mate. Actually he didn't smell of anything at all. My mate smells of pine and cherries and he didn't so it can't have been him,” I say, adamant that I wasn't saved by my mate. “I felt embarrassed that I had been saved by anyone. More to the point” I added “my scent is blocked so he wouldn't know it was me” I smile triumphantly.

“Oh Isla you have a lot to learn about mates you are destined to be together it is the will of the moon goddess”. My mother says as she pulls me into an embrace. I was so glad she did as I burst out crying she pulled me closer as i curled up into her she stayed like that for some time then she moved me to my bed where I welcomed sleep.

My mother knocks on my door not irritating countdown to my birthday. She just walks in and sits on my bed next to me placing her hand on my head and running her hands over my hair.

“So how was shopping with the girls” I look up at her and laugh. I had completely forgotten all about it with everything else that happened yesterday. I know what my mother is doing. She doesn't want me thinking back over the events of yesterday evening.

“It was really fun I found my ceremony dress”. I say without another word I sprint down stairs to my car and drag in all of my shopping bags. Mum and I laugh as I return at how excited I am.

“I haven't seen you this happy in a very long time” she beems.

“I finally feel like I have a purpose. Hell I'm the next pack Alpha mum. I grab my ceremony dress and run to my closet I change and put on the shoes I bought that match my dress I walk out and my mum's eyes fill up.Her smile reaches from ear to ear and it is suddenly all too much, tears are rolling down her face. “You look stunning, I'm so proud of you. Go try on the rest of your stuff for me” I try on everything I bought in a fashion show way and we laugh all morning we haven't done this for such a long time. “ What's in that bag?” she asks pointing to the Victoria's Secret bag

“Just a pre birthday present from the girls. They think they are hilarious when they handed it to me they said my mate should thank them”. I empty the contents of the bag onto my bed not knowing what was in there altogether and blush.

“Oh yes I see what they have said to thank them” my mother chuckles as she pulls out a black balconette corset with matching panties. I fall face first into my bed with embarrassment but can’t help but start to laugh.The rest of the day flew by. I go to see my dad who is working away in his office.

“Isla just who I needed to see. Are you all ready for the ceremony?”

“Yes I'm ready Dad, I’m ready for this”

“I know you are you have made me so proud I want you to meet a partner we work closely with. His pack owns properties alover and with us wanting to expand our business it will be good for you to get along for the sake of our pack.”

“So basically you want me to play nice?”

“Yes that pretty much sums it up”.

“Okay I'm sure I can manage that as long as he doesn't try anything funny.”

“I'm sure you can handle yourself my dear”.

“Ow you know I can”.

“Right Isla as much as I love you I really need to get on with some work. I need everything ready for the handover”.

I skip out of his office as I walk out of the house a hand grabs my wrist. Without thinking I yank my hand back without thinking Melody is in control I slam the owner of the hand to the ground pinning them by the neck with my foot, as thoughts of yesterday flood my mind. I look down to see Jake's face turning purple as he is struggling to breath.

“What the hell are you trying to do?” I say removing my

Foot from his neck.

“Ye I'm fine thanks for asking” he says rubbing his neck. “I wanted us to go for a run and let our wolves out”.

Without him saying another word I run behind the tree and let my wolf out I shake out my red fur. I feel so good. Jake has done the same he doesn't see me emerge from behind the tree so I stalk over and take him taking down his wolf

“That's twice now” I say through our mind link “I may need to find a new beta” I laugh.

Jake forces me off him and runs off into the woods “catch me if you can” I hear him say through our link.

“Your on”. I chase him down not focusing on where we are as I jump to take him down he dodges out of the way and I find myself falling into the pool at the base of the waterfall.

I'm in such shock words fail me when I finally come up from under the water I look up and see him rolling around laughing. I climb out of the water shaking out my fur.

“I hate wet fur”. I grumble. I make my way back up to the ledge and we both sit there in our wolves as the moon starts to rise I lean my head onto Jake's as I'm taller than him in my wolf. He leans in as well “your my best friend, you know that don't you?” I say through our link.

“Ye I know, and you are mine. Your mum told me what happened and I knew I had to do something fun for you. When you become Alpha and find your mate this won't change will it” he whispers almost scared to ask.

“Nothing will change this” I assure him even though I have been wondering the same. We take our leave and head back to the house

“I'm sorry I wasn't there to help you” Jake says as we change back into our clothes

“It's okay no one could have known what was going to happen. I'm just glad that mystery man was there to help me. Night Jake thanks for this, it's just what I needed”. I say as i walk up the steps to the front door

When I walk on nobody is home so I just head to my room to have a hot shower after my unwanted swim. I find my pajamas and curl up and drift off into darkness.
