A Hudson University Werewolf Saga*
*Hudson University, Morningside Heights. Hamilton Hall. Monday, September 15th. 8:03 AM.*
The rain finally stopped.
But the sky was worse. Low. Yellow. Like a bruise. The air smelled like metal and wet concrete. The 1 train under Broadway sounded _closer_ today. Like it was running through the walls.
*Alex* walked into Room 312 three minutes late. Didn’t care.
Baggy black hoodie up. Locs forward. Chain cold. Ribs still sore from Vanessa’s kick on Friday. Knuckles re-scabbed. She’d spent the weekend at Riverside Park doing pull-ups until her hands bled.
*Lucian Mark* was in _her_ seat. Again. Black tee. Black noise mask. Ice-blue eyes on the window. He hadn’t moved in 5 days.
She hated him more now. Because of the towel. Because of the ice. Because he was at 125th Street. Because someone was leaving feathers and she didn’t know who.
She slammed into the desk behind him.
He didn’t turn.
*Dr. Elias Thorne* stood at the front. Not teaching. Watching the door.
Storm-gray eyes. Scars on his forearms. Today he wore a black waistcoat, buttoned to the throat. Like armor.
The door opened.
*Dean Morrison*, 60s, balding, cardigan with coffee stains, walked in. Sweating. “Dr. Thorne, a moment?”
Thorne didn’t move. “Speak.”
Morrison looked at the class. Thirty faces. Then at Alex. Then at Lucian.
“The Council is here,” Morrison whispered. “They want her.”
Thorne’s jaw ticked. “She’s in class.”
“They don’t care.”
The air changed.
Lucian’s shoulders went rigid.
*Dez Knight*, two rows up, closed his notebook. Slow.
*The Den, Cafeteria. 8:22 AM.*
Fire alarm.
Not a drill.
Screaming. Students running. Trays crashing.
*Maya Woods* grabbed Alex’s arm at the back table. “What the hell—”
“Fire marshals,” *Vanessa Crowe* yelled, standing on a bench. Nose still swollen from Friday. Makeup hiding the bruise. “Everyone out! Now!”
*Kayla Benton* was recording. *Tiana Ross* scanned the exits. *Priya Shah* clutched her bio textbook. *Jessica Lane* already ran.
Alex didn’t move.
Three men walked into The Den.
Not fire marshals.
Black suits. Black ties. White gloves. Faces blank. Old. Too old. Skin like paper.
The room went dead silent.
The one in front stopped at Alex’s table.
“Alexsander Williams,” he said. Voice like dry leaves. “The Council requests your presence.”
Maya stepped in front of her. “She’s not going anywhere with—”
The man looked at Maya.
Maya dropped. Like her strings got cut.
“Maya!” Alex caught her. Hazel eyes rolled back. Breathing, but out cold.
“Alpha blood,” the man said. “She cannot interfere.”
Alpha.
Blood.
Alex looked up. “I don’t know what you’re—”
“You will.” He held out a white-gloved hand. “Come.”
*Lucian Mark* stood.
He was at the dish return. 20 feet away. Now he was between Alex and the Council.
Didn’t say anything.
Didn’t have to.
The Council man smiled. “Lucian Mark. Ridgefield High. Millbrook transfer. _Rogue_.”
Lucian’s ice-blue eyes narrowed.
“Step aside,” the man said. “This does not concern you.”
Lucian didn’t move.
Thorne was suddenly there. In the doorway. “She’s under Hudson protection. Council has no jurisdiction during school hours. Treaty of 1987.”
“Treaty is suspended,” the man said. “Hyd is bleeding. Three humans dead this month. One alpha heir unclaimed. The Council _will_ have her.”
Heir.
Unclaimed.
Alex’s head spun. Chain burned cold.
“What the hell are you talking about?” Alex said. “I’m human. My name is Williams. I’m from Hyd. That’s it.”
The man tilted his head. “Human?” He reached out. White glove toward her hoodie. Toward the chain.
Lucian moved.
Fast.
Too fast.
One second he was 10 feet away. Next he was there. Between the glove and Alex.
His hand closed around the man’s wrist.
_Crack._
The man’s wrist _bent_ wrong.
He didn’t scream. Just smiled. “So. You choose her.”
“Leave,” Lucian said. First word Alex ever heard from him. Voice low. Rough. Like gravel.
The other two Council men stepped forward.
Thorne was there. Dez was there. Both blocking the door.
“Enough,” Thorne said. “You have your answer. Now get out of my school.”
The Council man looked at his bent wrist. Then at Alex.
“Five days,” he said. “Midnight, September 20th. Bring her to the quarry, or we burn Hyd to the ground. And we start with Diane Williams.”
Mom.
Alex’s blood went cold.
The three men turned. Walked out.
Maya gasped. Sat up. “What… what happened?”
The Den erupted. Students yelling. Dean Morrison shouting about “gas leak.”
Alex looked at Lucian.
He was staring at her. Mask still on. But his eyes—
Angry.
Not at her.
At _them_.
“Who the hell are you?” Alex said.
Lucian didn’t answer.
He walked out.
*Training Spot #4: Hamilton Hall Roof. 3:17 PM.*
Alex was there. Punching air. Again.
