“Fine!” Tove snarled. “Ninety-six hundred, eight en one!” “What?” I said. “Answering!” he shouted. “Slow, but—yes!” “Dump it!” I shouted. “Trying! Slow!” Overhead, metal rattled. A long narrow shape slid into view—Habre’s pipe? She’d shoved the pipe in Palmer’s way, adding another barrier. Habre shouted something indistinct. Maybe we could stuff Palmer’s debris in his path quickly enough. Through the gap, I saw Palmer’s thrashing arm. Crawling electricity erupted over his hand. Habre screamed. I wrenched to look up. Her suited form tumbled down the ladder cage towards me. I pulled my head back just in time for her leg to fall into reach. If she’d fallen freely I couldn’t have dodged, but she bounced bonelessly around the circular safety cage. How could she be that limp? I gr
