Even if the “people” are aliens crafted to resemble humans. The hovercraft’s buzz had sunk into my bones. My teeth weren’t going to rattle loose any longer; they seemed to have merged with the vibration, along with my bones and brain and flesh. The spray on my helmet had achieved balance, slipping away as fast as it accumulated. Below me, a lone jerk alien had hijacked the raft and was running for the freedom of the open seas. I reminded myself of my last assignment. I didn’t need another negative report. Heart heavy, I turned the hovercraft back towards shore. Fifty meters would put me halfway to the hangar. The runaway alien slowed. The alien captain was lashing my dropped line to the ship’s stern. They were going to use the raft to tow the ship off the reef. My heart lightened.
