3. Dinner/Meeting.

1773 Words
[Mason] "You called an emergency meeting/dinner, I don't understand." Sirius pushed the door of my office open. I had truly missed him and his advice, ever since Clarice's recovery he had been spending less time attending to pack matters, he was truly dedicated to his mate and I understood him. If Jade had survived such a great ordeal, I wouldn't want her out of my sight for a second. I hated to call him like this but the situation warranted it, there was danger in the air, I could smell it and even Adrien could feel it, he had been restless ever since the ice cream shop incident. If raging hormones hadn't driven Jade and me out of the ice cream parlor, we would be smoked by now. "It's about the Ice cream parlor fire, I think it's more than that, I think it was an attempt on my life and Jade's," I explained motioning him to take a seat. "Whoever did that clearly just wants to unnerve you, he knows that you both would've survived the fire," Liya said, shaking her head slowly. "Who do you think it is this time around?" My gamma asked and I just stared at him speechless because I had no reply for him, I had no idea who could be after us now. The only enemy I had ever known was Cyprus and he was dead, alongside his mate and all his accomplices. "What about Zara?" I turned to Jade and asked the unasked question that hung in the air like a thick cloud. "She couldn't, if she wanted revenge she wouldn't have the time to plan something like this, she would just come for blood, it's not her," Jade said. "Besides, if she wanted to hurt me, she wouldn't have sent me another lett—" "Another what?" I asked Jade in surprise, she never told me that Zara sent her another lettery. I was angry, Jade had kept something from me again, why couldn't she understand that it made me f*cking angry. "I didn't want to be reminded of the past, I burnt the letter immediately." She tried to explain but it didn't do anything to sate the burning anger I felt. "What do you think?" I turned to Cyprus, I would deal with Jade later, thanking a deep breath I tried to calm myself down. I needed to think rationally now and I couldn't let my emotions get in the way. "I think we're dealing with a supernatural force, a force greater and with more force than Cyprus." He said sadly and rose from his seat at the table. I doubted anyone would be able to eat with the tension brewing. "What do you mean far greater?" I understood the supernatural part, of course, humans couldn't be after us but what did he mean by much greater. How could we have greater enemies? "This enemy has nothing to lose and is not fighting for any position or power," Sirius said and turned to leave. "The witch predicted it before she left, I just hoped that her vision would not be true, she said the consequences for killing Cyprus would be far greater, I think this is what she meant."  "Why didn't you tell me about that?" my wolf was rising to the surface, I was feeling extreme emotions right now. Another person had kept something else from me and something so important. "Because I couldn't do that to you, for years I watched you plan how you would exact your revenge, I couldn't take that from you." He said his eyes were hardening. "I'll find out everything I can from the human authorities and I promise you Mason, whoever it is, we'll take them down." His words calmed me somehow because I believed them, Sirius had never failed me and I didn't think he would now. "This meeting is dismissed," I said and stood up from my seat, there were already too many emotions involved and I had to deal with them first. "Liya and Jay, check everyone out, I feel that we have a mole among us. Sirius, take Damien with you to investigate the arson. Jade stay." I gave out orders and then turned to look outside the window behind me. "Yes, Alpha." They all stood up and left one after the other. "Why didn't you tell me about the letter?" My voice sounded pained, I didn't think she understood how much this kind of betrayal hurt me. "Were you even going to tell me?" "Mace," she started and then she moved closer to me, taking my hand in hers. "I'm sorry for not telling you, I just didn't want to worry you but I promise not to keep stuff from you again." She raised my hands to her mouth and placed two wet kisses on my knuckles. The sparks shot through my arms to my chest and my heart warmed, I couldn't stay mad at her. "You promise?" I pulled her closer to me, held her by the side of her neck, and tilted her face upwards so she was looking me in the eye. "I promise." Her green eyes twinkled with unshed tears and her lips widened into a smile. "Good." My voice sounded raspy and I claimed her lips with mine. I wouldn't have killed him if Sirius had told me." I said taking a seat and pulling her on my lap. "I know, but it would've hurt." She said and I agreed with her, you couldn't imagine the relief I felt when I held his head in my hands. Even though killing him didn't take away the pain that I had nursed for years, but it finally gave me a chance to put them to rest, the demons that had tortured me for years. "Why did she send you another letter?" I asked, Jade had told me about the first letter Zara sent to her but she hadn't told me that she received another letter. Besides, I was suspicious of Zara now, why was she not using any electronic method to contact Jade. I was afraid Jade was too emotional about Zara to see the truth. "I'd never know unless I cast a spell." She replied smugly and I raised an eyebrow at her. "I burnt the letter." She added and I nodded at her. "Okay." I smiled and kissed the top of her head, at least we could find out whatever was on that letter whenever we wanted to. I had my doubts about Zara and in truth, I had never liked her but I knew that Jade still cared about her a lot, she had been her best friend since elementary school so I would have to tread carefully around the subject. For now, I just had a hunch, I would wait till I had evidence before I said anything to Jade. "You know that you can't go to work alone from now on," I said and a frown marred her beautiful features. "You know that I can take care of myself." She replied and I shook my head. "I'm not taking that risk, we have no idea what force we're up against." I had originally wanted to stop her from going to work altogether, she would have her hands filled with her Luna duties anyway, but I knew she loved working like a normal person and so I decided to compromise, I couldn't compromise my already compromised decision again. "Fine, as long as I don't know that I'm being followed, the person has to be stealth." She said, "Followed," I chuckled but made no further comment on that. "Stealth is kind of in the job description, we don't want whoever is after you to see it coming, so don't worry about that." "Let's go to bed." She whispered in my ear and I picked her up in my arms. As I walked down the hall to our bedroom, I looked down at Jade in my arms and I wondered how much longer we had to enjoy this peace and quiet before our lives would be turned to a war zone again. . . [Sarah] "You should've have gotten something right, at least she's friendly with you." She yelled so loudly through the receiver, I had to remove the phone from my hair. She was getting impatient, this was not good, her impatience would cause her to do something drastic, and that something would make them suspicious. We have to infiltrate their base and conquer them from the inside out, that was the only way it was going to work. "Be calm mother, she just left and I'm sure she will go to Linda's before she heads home. Our plan is in motion, we just have to keep calm, remember revenge is a dish best served cold, we cannot let them be suspicious of our intentions in any way." "You've never failed me, child, don't start now." She said and hung the phone. I listened to the phone beep for a while before I let down the receiver. She was hurt, I was hurt, we all were hurt and we would not rest until we had exacted our revenge. The only weak link in our plan was Linda, she was always messing things up, I just hoped she could stick to the plan and carry out her duties this time. I left the store and started making my way to my fake home. Here I was Sarah Lockwood, I had a husband and two children who all loved me very much. My husband worked in a law firm but he was still a junior partner so he did not earn so much. I worked at a local store because I had gotten pregnant in my last year of high school and had been unable to go to college, my husband was a great man and so he had married me after high school, he had gone on to college and law school while I stayed at home taking care of the kids and working. What a pathetic life. I hated the vessel I was currently inhabiting. She was weak but she was the best cover. Weak people are never suspected of anything, so they are the best vessels to possess, besides they're easy and they never fight back.  My phone rang just as I was about to ring the front door before I could answer the call, an explosion rang out and I nearly fell down. "What was that?" I asked immediately and I picked up the call. "Mother blew up the ice cream parlor."
