Chapter 3 Nia's POV My eyes watered. I couldn't believe it. I was staring at my mate, Alpha Michael, thrusting in and out of Genevieve. Same old Genevieve. The one who was the reason for my pain. Immediately, I bolted out of the building. I ran with all my strength, but the weight of the gown slowed me down. I lifted it and began to run. I didn’t know where I was going, but I knew I didn’t want to be here. I didn’t want to be close to anyone. “Where the hell are you going?” My little wolf said to me. “Out of here,” I cried. “No! No! Get back there! Go and confront that Asshole! I stopped and began going back to the Alpha's lodge. My chest fell and rose, and I walked into the elevator. Alpha Michael needs to explain to me. I need an explanation. I stood in front of the door. I swallowed, and I roughly wiped the tears brimming down my eyes. I peeked my head into the room. They were still at it. I backed up, almost tripping. Oh no. It can’t be. Why me? What have I done to deserve this? I began to run them down the hallway. Tears were falling down my cheeks, and I didn’t do anything to stop them. Yet again. The mate pull was strong. I walked back into that room. I slammed the door open. They still didn't acknowledge my presence. I felt utterly insulted. “Alpha Michael!” I yelled. Alpha Michael looked up and rolled his eyes. He went ahead and still kissed Genevieve. After that, he withdrew from her, used a cloth to cover himself, and stared me in the eye. “Who are you?” His boredom in his voice was so palpable, I could almost taste it. “I am… I am… your mate.” My chest fell and rose as I watched. The audacity in his attitude made me want to throw up. To be in the wrong and still not have remorse. This was against all mating rules. The moon goddess said the one in the wrong will grovel. Alpha Michael's eyes widened. I could see shock dancing in it, but he recovered immediately. My little victory was short-lived when Genevieve sat up. “Who is the—” she scoffed. “Oh, it's the pack late bloomer.” Genevieve crawled closer to Alpha Michael. She tilted his head towards her, making him look into her eyes. “So?” She drawled. “So what?” I asked. “So what if he is your mate… he's in my arms now,” she proceeded to kiss him. I looked from my shaking hands to Genevieve’s obscene display. She turned to me and smirked. My blood boiled. I clenched and unclenched my fist. If there was one person I wanted so much to die, it was Genevieve. In my imagination, I could see myself killing and snuffing the life out of her. “You do know there are consequences of cheating by the moon goddess,” I said in gritted teeth. Genevieve burst into ear-piercing laughter. “Oh, I'm so scared,” she mocked, as she laughed some more. “A curse awaits you, alpha Michael!” Alpha Michael glared at me. He gave me such a hard look that I felt like he was turning me to stone. I suddenly felt stupid for speaking up, but for a weird reason, I kept going. “A curse from the moon goddess is not something to be joked with. It's only cowards that don't pay attention to that,” I glared. Alpha Michael sat up straight. “Watch me curse myself.” He moved closer to Genevieve, grabbed her by the neck, and leaned in. With his eyes fixed on me, he sank his teeth into her neck and marked her, like he was a vampire. I gasped and almost tripped. Losing my balance. Tears fell freely down my eyes, and I did nothing to stop them, despite being in the presence of Alpha Michael and Genevieve. What did I just watch? Marking a mate on the neck like a vampire was the strongest form of marking. Anyone marked like that cannot be rejected again by the said mate. Immediately, I took off. Out of the room. Out of Alpha Michael and Genevieve’s sight. Out of the pack. I ran with every remaining strength I had. I ran to escape my cruel, merciless reality. I needed to breathe. The injustice was up to my neck, and I needed some air. Tears clouded my eyes as I ran. I just wanted to leave. And this time, I ran and ran and I didn’t even look back. I turned around to find myself out of the pack. I finally did leave. I stood at the pack totem. It was a place that marked the boundary of my pack. Then I continued running into the white oak forest. I kept running till I didn't know where I was. Darkness was slowly creeping in on me. For the first time since I began this journey, I became scared. Sitting down to catch my breath by a tree trunk, I wondered what to do next. Suddenly, there was some movement. The leaves rustled, and my ear picked up a hissing sound. Immediately, I leapt to my feet. Heart in my mouth, beating furiously. I began to run. I had no idea where I was going. Just when I was about to give up, I spotted a house. Without thinking twice, I ran to the house. To my utmost surprise, people were gathered around. Smoking. Drinking. Chatting. It was then that I realized I was at a bar. I sighed, wiping the sea of sweat on my face. Dragging my feet, I walked into the bar. I flopped down on the first seat I could find. The bartender smiled at me. “What will you have?” He asked. I had no money, so I couldn't get myself anything. Just when I opened my mouth, someone beat me to it. “A pineapple cocktail for the fine young lady,” a deep baritone said. “Everything she will have this night, put it on my tab.” I turned to offer my gratitude, and immediately gasped. Staring right back at me was the most handsome man I had ever seen.
