Damon's POV
The sound of her laughter hit me like a physical blow.
I had just come home, exhausted from another endless day at the hospital, hoping to find some comfort in seeing my mate. Instead, I walked through the front door and heard Sera on the phone, her voice light and warm in a way I hadn't heard in weeks.
"Same time tomorrow then? I really enjoyed today's session."
She laughed again, that sweet, genuine sound that used to be reserved for me.
"Thank you, Leo. For everything. I don't know what I'd do without you."
Jealousy erupted in my chest like wildfire.
She ended the call just as I stepped into the living room. When she saw me, her smile faded, replaced by something guarded. Careful.
"Who was that?" The words came out harsher than I intended.
