Chapter 59: Family Importance

1113 Words
Andra Erlina Milburn’s Point of View I wasn’t in my right mind when I came to the market to buy some food and fruits for my brother. Starting tomorrow, I’ll stay at the hospital for him and see how he goes since the Doctor said that his conditions were starting to get worse. I don’t have a good feeling about this at all, I do feel like something bad will happen and believe me, I don’t wanna lose the only gem that has been here with me all my life. As I wander around the market, I saw a lot of fruits that has been decorated side by side and didn’t hesitate on putting them in my basket. Starting tomorrow as well, I’ll go and find a job again even if I no longer have time to rest, only just to make money and pay for his needs. I put some banana, apple, oranges and more on the cereals that he wanted. Well, I put some allowance from my school here and believe me, it would be a huge cut if ever yet I don’t have the money to pay for his needs aside from the one that Zacarias was giving me and my allowance as a full time scholar. When I’m done with groceries, I immediately went outside now and went to a cab before telling him about where the hospital was. On the other hand, a lot of people has been going back and forth and I could see that we are now stuck in the traffic. Mainly because someone got into an accident and believe me, you wouldn’t want to see it. It was two cars, one civilian and one taxi. My heart started to get ripped seeing how the blood started to drip down the road. Seeing how the family member of the civilian car was crying, I immediately drifted my eyes off them and saw how things would go. Imagining my brother will die just like what happened to them suddenly hit me. My mind and my whole wellbeing couldn’t accept it given the fact that he’s the only I got and nothing more. As soon as we arrived to the hospital, I immediately seek for my brother’s room and saw that he was just watching a movie and was eating something I didn’t buy, or someone bought it for him. “Hey,” I greeted softly at him. “What are you eating?” I asked then closed the door. Andrius’ eyebrows suddenly furrowed. “Sis, you were missing in action for three or four days and that’s the thing you’re going to ask me? What are you eating? Seriously?” I know it’s just a sarcasm tho being offended was seen in his voice. I snorted on what he said. He really has to say something on whatever I’m trying to say, huh. Bold kid. “Just there,” I said then kissed his cheeks. “Just there, huh. Didn’t know it’s already one of the place I haven’t heard,” I said jokingly. He was about to come forward and see me when I didn’t let him since he has a dextrose on and the doctor doesn’t want him to stand up often although it is advisable but I’m just being worried since it could make him tired. I sat on the chair across from him, I was just looking at my brother and I didn't feel anything at all except from the one I feel today and it was being skeptical and just started overthinking. My brother started sharing things that he’s certain about and the things that have happened to him for the last few days. I wasn't present and told me that he is making progress and making friends with someone he was meeting every time his nurse goes out with him. At least, he’s really making progress. Before, he was a shy type and couldn't even speak in front of everyone. For the past few years, he had been away from everyone and one of his problems was socializing just like me yet my brother’s socializing skills were deeper than mine. At some point, I am very happy and a bit worried about him. “Don’t worry, I will be here for the whole week and help you. After school, I’ll come here and-” His eyebrows arched. “Hmm? What about our apartment?” “No, I’ve been out for a long time and I don’t want you to spend your hospital days all by yourself plus, it’s inappropriate for me to just leave you here. By the way, I will be talking to your doctor if it’s fine going back home…” I said when I said those things, it was in a low voice only. Slowly, when he got what I said, he just nodded his head and smiled simply. “Uh-huh. We should just come home. Besides, I could be treated at home, right? If I’ll be here in the hospital for a few more days, we would be lacking in terms of budget so it’s better if we should just go back…” It’s true that we lack in budget. Who am I going to ask for money since I don’t know someone who can help us except for Zacarias and Chesca? It’s not that I’m lazy to seek for help, but I do not have more friends except from Chesca and to the others I’m always with. Just like me, they are also broke. Sometimes, it’s too hard when you don’t have money. I tried working before yet I noticed that my grades were falling. I wanted to graduate, I wanted to have a stable job, to conquer all these challenges we’re facing. I was provided with a full scholarship and all I’m going to do was to maintain high grades and that's exactly what I’m doing each day. “Stay here for a moment, alright?” I told Andrius. He only nodded as his eyes went back on the television. He was busy watching when I came out and went to where the nurses department were and saw that the doctor Andrius had was there, holding a chart whilst seeing a client. “I will just drop by later in your son’s room before I go home,” I heard him said. The old lady smiled warmly. “Thank you, Doc.” As a sign of respect, I waited for the old lady and the doctor to finish their conversation before I started to butt in. A small shy smile crept on to my lips when I saw him. “Doc…” I asserted.
