Chapter 2

1028 Words
Matilda Davison was a Scrooge but tonight she had taken her best friend Elizabeth out to the drink. It was another cold night in the city and Elizabeth wanted to stay in bed while thinking about Jack. Matilda wouldn't let her since it was her birthday and she needed to celebrate with her. Matilda wouldn't want to spend her money on drinks and cigarettes but the moment Elizabeth walked right through the entrance door. She quickly changed her mind. Her eyes were red and puffy, she had been crying while driving back to her apartment. Elizabeth was going through a hard time both at work and in her love life. "The night is young and still long so wipe that look off your face" "I told you I want to stay in bed. '' Elizabeth was bored. She wasn't a party pooper but she was a party freak too. She preferred staying in bed while wrapped in a red sweater while watching her regular TV show. Her life was boring and revolved around books and solving cases at the company. "You should be glad I took you out" "Yes, you shouldn't have bothered" Elizabeth reminded her friend that she was the birthday freak too. The only reason she had brought up her birthday every day was to lure Jack into taking her out officially. But that has never happened no matter how many times she reminds him that it was her birthday. "I should" She reclined to a stool and Elizabeth joined her. "You were gonna stay locked up in bed, right?" "No I was going to celebrate" "With who?" Matilda didn't need to remind her that she had no one. Her parents were divorced and she had grown up with her Grandmother. They probably don't even remember her birthday. She thought "Everyone" "Jack is not going to remember your birthday, is best you stop making a fool of yourself" "Don't say it" Elizabeth turns to the waiter who was flirting with one of the girls. "Couldn't you have picked a better place?" "This is one of the best place in the city so I couldn't pass off the opportunity" Elizabeth glanced around, she hadn't even noticed they had walked into one of the expensive clubs in the city which was owned by one of the eligible bachelors in the city. "Which reminds me, who is paying, Ms. Frugal" "Good question" Matilda takes out a small calculator which surprises Elizabeth. "You brought a calculator here" She was embarrassed. "Yes we need to calculate before choosing our drinks" "Really?" She arched up her brow at Matilda "Yes you b***h" Elizabeth shot a warm smile at her and turned to the waiter again, who was coming their way. "I need something expensive and strong" Matilda's jaw dropped but she was quick to close her mouth. Before she could say something, Elizabeth stated sharply again. "And you better hold her, she has a habit of drinking and not paying. Everything I order is on her. The name is Matilda Davison" "Is that how cheap you are?" "Thanks to you" Elizabeth squared her chin stubbornly and she glared at her. "You want to take me out and we are finally here, don't be frugal and make me eat road side dishes please, I have allergies" "Fine!" Matilda turns to the waiter. "Give her whatever she wants, I will just have a soda" "Why? I will pay if it's money you are scared of" "Someone has to stay sober and I am driving" "That's true" When the waiter passed their drinks, Elizabeth was the first to gulp down her drink in a go. She hated alcohol but this was going to help her forget about Jack. While Elizabeth was drinking and laughing so hard with Matilda, Alfred Wellington watched from his seat. He wanted her but Elizabeth would never look his way. The last thing she was ever going to do was be with a man who Jack considers his rival and has been rumored to be involved with the Mafia organization. As Alfred sips his drink, Lucas gazes at him. His brother was letting this woman get to her and it was bad for business. "I want her" He glanced at Lucas "There are many girls in this room right now, you can have any of them, just not Elizabeth Simmons" "Why? Because she is a friend of Jack" "He is the enemy" "He wants to make himself my enemy, I have no business with Jack" "You should stay away from that woman and I mean it" "I want to call it quits" Alfred finally said the only words that have been in his heart for more than six months now. "What are you talking about?" Lucas had in mind what he was trying to say but he wanted him to be very clear with his words. "I want legalize all of our businesses" "Why?" Lucas was furious. His brother was about to give up on the organization because of a woman. Right there, he began to hate Elizabeth for messing with his brother's head. "Don't tell me is because of that w***e" "Lucas" Alfred glared at him. He hadn't liked him, indicating that Elizabeth was a w***e because she wasn't. She wasn't anything like the women he has been with. She was worth more than they are. Elizabeth would never throw herself at him so randomly, staring at her while she continues to drink. He scoffed and got up. "Just where are you going?" "She is planning to get herself drunk before the night ends" "And what has that got to do with you?" "I have to stop her" Alfred was desperate, he had done a little background check on her and had discovered that she wasn't the alcohol freak. "She has her friend" "Who is not stopping her, you may not know this but Elizabeth is alcohol intolerant. She will end up sick tomorrow and won't be able to go to work" "And how do I suppose you know about this?" Lucas arched up his brow at him wondering what exactly his brother had been up to in his absence.
