Back in the clearing this is going on.
Sunshine's POV:
I woke up as the sun was just starting to rise, the fire had burned down to just cinders in the middle of the night. So, I started to cover it with some dirt to make sure it went out completely, normally I would have poured water over it but since I was trying to draw as little attention as I possibly could I just banked the cinders with dirt. Then I walked to just inside the tree line to tend to mother nature. After wards I walked over to the saddle bags and got out a bag that had some sand in it this sand when wet turned into a type of soap to wash with.
Then I went down to the stream and took off all my clothes and carried them to the edge of the stream near some boulders where I set them down on a flat stone. Then I walked farther into the crisp cold water until it came up to my neck. Once it was I dunked under water to get my hair wet. Once I was completely wet I went back to the stone and grabbed my pouch then I poured a little in my hand grabbed my canteen and poured some water onto the sand just enough to make it work. Then I rubbed my hands together and started rubbing the sandy soap onto my body starting with my arms up my shoulders then over and under my breast’s then down my body, then between my legs then down first one leg then the next.
Then I got some more sand soap and started on my hair. Once I was done I went back deeper into the water to rinse off going under water to rinse all the dust and dirt from my hair. Once I was clean I started washing my clothes out laying them out on the flat rock as I finished each one to let the heat from the summer sun dry them. Then I walked to my saddle bags and grabbed some clean riding clothes that were less comfortable than my others but that would still protect my skin from burning in the sun.
By this time, the heat from the sun had already dried my skin enough to where I could get dressed without any problems. While I waited for my clothes to dry I went to check my snares and traps unfortunately I came up empty handed so I reset them for now and went back to the camp where I dusted out my bedding and started putting it away back in the saddle bags and loading them back onto Old Jenny after checking her hoofs and making sure she didn’t pick up a rock in her shoe or bruised the frog of her hoof. Once she was checked out and then loaded up I went to check out Sadie, she too was fine, so I started putting first her saddle blanket then her saddle.
Once everything was strapped on properly I go over to check on my clothes seeing as they were dry I folded them up and went back to the horses to put them into the saddle bags. Now that everything was ready to go I decided to go and check my snares and traps once more again I turned up nothing, so I took them down and started back towards camp. As I was walking I suddenly heard a strange sound behind me so I turned around and saw the biggest black wolf you could ever Imagine, and it was growling at me. Then I did the stupidest thing anyone could ever do I turned and started running as fast as I could trying to get back to camp where my makeshift spear was still at.
I could hear it gaining on me then just as it almost bit my leg I suddenly heard another set of paws heading straight for the wolf that was on my heels then I heard the sound of a yelp from the one chasing me then nothing so I just kept running hoping and praying neither wolfs would suddenly decide to join up and hunt me together. Unfortunately, just as I was reaching the edge of the clearing I wasn’t paying attention to where my feet were landing, and I tripped over a tree root sticking out of the ground twisting my ankle so bad I’d swear it was broken. I hit the ground so hard while throwing my hand out to catch me that I heard the bone in my right wrist break, and I let out a scream so load that they probably could hear me all the way back at the castle I’m sure. I slowly get myself back on my feet and check to see if my ankle is broken or just sprained, thankfully it’s just a really bad sprain so I grab a branch nearby that is sturdy enough to take enough weight off my ankle that moving much more slowly and more carefully then I was, I finally made it back to camp where by leaning against old Jenny I was able to grab my bedding and lay it out back on the ground since there was no way I would be able to ride Sadie with not only a sprained ankle but also a broken wrist so I would be stuck here for a while until my wrist healed some.
Then I took a piece of cloth and tied it into a loop using my good hand and teeth, then I slung it over my neck. Then I wrapped my wrist with a piece of cloth and placed my wrist into it, I then used another piece of cloth to hold it in place against my body so I wouldn’t jostle it while I slept tonight. Then I grabbed some food out of the bags and slowly lowered myself down onto my bedding to eat while I watched an eagle swoop down on the lake then back into the air with a fish in its talon’s. I made sure that my spear was next to me so that if that if either wolf showed its face again I could at least put up a fight before it inevitably killed me.
My ankle finally started to feel better a little bit after moving it around and putting a little more weight on it every time I had to get up to do something but by the time the sun was right above me my wrist was throbbing so bad that I couldn’t do anything but try to stifle the sound of me crying with my other hand. I wished that my Grandma were still alive she would know what to do to help my wrist to stop hurting. She was the most sought-after healer in the whole kingdom before she died. Of course, I wasn’t even born yet, she died when my brother William was only 1yrs old, but my grandpa used to tell me stories about her all the time. Thinking about my grandma just made me sadder and even more lonely than I was originally, and the tears were starting to fall even more.
