‘Have got worse child. We should be happy that for now you’re a dragon tamer.’ He said as his lip twitched upward.
‘About the king…..’ I trailed
‘That d**k face’ he said as his face twitched in disgust.
‘Think he is going to kill my dragon?’ I asked
‘There’s nothing that bastard can-‘he said being cut off by the sudden opening of the eyes of my dragon.
‘Whoa’ I breathed out as I kneeled on the floor to look at it in its eyes. His eye………….crystal white.
‘Wow’ my father said breathless.
‘Am one lucky b***h!’ I exclaimed laughing out loud. Damn is that really mine?
‘Language’ he said giving me a disapproving look as I rolled my eyes
‘Shhh’ he said putting his finger on his lips as I laughed out in joy
‘You don’t want me be caught do you?’ he asked mischievously as I grinned
‘How did you get past all the guards in the castle father’ I said raising my eyebrows.
‘Lets not go there.’ he said laughing nervously
‘You need to know what type of dragon it is to know its strength.’ My father said looking at my dragon.
‘How?’
‘Am I here to think for you? Think child. The time has come where you would not be able to ask for my advice or ideas. You’ll have to trust yourself to think and pick right.” he said with a bored expression. I really did miss my father and it’s isn’t even up to a day. Chuckling internally I recalled all the long last memories. The maximum was two hours apart.
‘The castle should have a library. I could sneak into the library and check out the books on dragons. I am sure I’ll find something.’
‘Excellent!’ he said as he clapped his hands. Sighing he stood up from the bed and I immediately stood up too.
‘I have to get going if I don’t want to get caught’ he said chuckling but his eyes said something else. They held sadness.
‘Piece of advice?’ I said not recognizing my voice again. I have to stay strong. I cannot break down, no.
‘slay the head of your enemies, chop their heads off, place them on the wall and keep your dragon close. Never leave it for a second especially in this castle. Don’t forget the walls have ears’ he whispered.
‘Take’ he said as he removed his cloak and gave me
‘You’ll need it if you’re going to do some sneaking’ he chuckled
‘But you.. .’
‘Don’t worry about me’ he said as he pulled something out of his pocket. A necklace? Looking like the same thing am wearing. My hand instantly went up to the one I am wearing
‘Only God knows when next am going to see you. Two years…three….four?’ he said fiddling with the necklace in his hands.
‘ I just want to say I love you. The last 18 years of my life has been the best years of my life. Before you came into my life, my life was a mess and you know all of that no need to explain. I love you. And am always here for you’ he said as tears pooled in my eyes. I know how hard it is for him to say this. I ran forward and hugged him, pulling him to a tight embrace.
‘Take this’ he said as he pulled out of the hug and dropped and placed the same replica of the necklace around my neck on my hand.
‘What is this..?’
‘That was the only thing on you when I carried you on the first very day. Whenever I touched it, it would suddenly grow dull but whenever you tiny baby hands touched it, it would shine so bright and I knew immediately it was something special. But you see, the village back then hated us and despised us. They still do. I knew that one day, they would rip it off your neck out of jealousy so, I made a duplicate of the original one and wore it on your neck. Turns out, I was right. One day, they cornered you and pulled it off your neck with force but when they found out I was no special thing, I was just a necklace wooden carved, they threw it away near the forest and I happened to see it. I wore it back on your neck and kept the original necklace with me for years until now. I believe your mother gave or wore it on you for a reason, perhaps, protection.’ He said as I traced the pattern of the spherical necklace blue in colour. It shone bright on contact with my hand.
‘Thank you’ I said admiring the necklace as tears dropped from my eyes.
‘Please, wear it and never remove it. I am not going to be there to protect you buy that necklace is the only thing connecting you to your mother. I believe it will protect you’ he said as he pulled me in for a last hug…a goodbye hug as he walked towards the door.
‘Father’ I voiced out as my voice broke
‘Do not cry girl, we will still meet. 3 years is really not a long time. Stay strong’ he said giving me a cheeky smile and I couldn’t help but smile as he opened the door.
‘Break a leg.’ He said as he threw a wink my way and left.
Wiping my face of all tears, I put on the cloak father gave me. I went over and picked up both of my daggers from where I discarded it on the floor and quickly went to the bathroom to clean of the dried blood. Done with that, I hid the daggers in my boot, took my sword and strapped it around my waist. Thinking of where to hide my dragon… if I carry it in my hand..that wouldn’t be such a great Idea considering its pure white. It will be more visible in darkness. I opened an inner portion of the cloak and quickly but gently carried my dragon from the bed and placed it in the compartment making sure to leave it open. Making sure everything is intact, and my necklace is around my neck, I opened my door gently to avoid its creaking sound and stepped out quietly.
Grateful that the hall way was empty, I began walking opposite the direction of my room.
Groaning internally I pulled on my hair. How the hell am I supposed to get to the library when I don’t even know the way around this stupid palace and considering the fact that this place is so f*****g huge that would be a bit tad difficult don’t ye think?
Anyways, I just kept on walking praying that God would just lead me to the right door.
After walking few steps, passing few rooms I finally stopped at one. I think it should be the library.
It’s the only room secluded in a narrow path. I opened the door gently half way and entered.
Ha-ha! I was right it’s the f*****g library.
‘You can’t do that.’
‘I can do whatever I want’ I heard voice booming as I was about to go over to the shelves.
Fuck! Am not the only one here? s**t how am I gonna look for what I want?
Groaning, I crouched low and began to crawl towards the noise to see who were here perhaps I might just be lucky if there were other dragon tamers that just also seeks knowledge but boy, I was soo wrong.
‘There’s no way am going to let that dragon live’ I heard.
What dragon? Carefully I peered through a narrow path between to shelves and what I saw next shocked me.
The king and his son, prince Zion around a small table with a book in the middle. I squinted my eyes to see more and whoa. The king is furious.
‘Dad lets be rational. I know you hate her gut but you still can’t kill her or her dragon. Calamities would befall us. She a product of the dark moon. She’s what the gods sent to punish us. How do you think the gods would be after you kill her and her dragon dad?’ he asked laughing sarcastically.
‘No answer? Well let me provide you with one’ prince Zion said tauntingly ‘Furious!’ he screamed in anger as the king shook in rage.
They are talking about me obviously. I mean, is there someone else sent to torment them apart of me?
The annoying part is that I was right. The king is after my head and my dragon’s. The slamming of the door jolted me back to reality. I checked to see what had happened and I saw only prince Zion standing without the king in sight.
The king had left. I stood up from my crouching position slowly and gently.
