The World’s Crisis

689 Words
As Eva lay asleep, breaking news swept across the globe. Reports emerged of complete bankruptcy in every continent. For the majority of the world’s crops have failed this harvest; and everyone was terribly concerned about being fed. Therefore, nobody spent money on things they didn’t need anymore. Terror gripped every soul, and the government was on the move to search for a solution. As the media frenzied over the matter; the government’s top officials met in a secret location to hold a council meeting. “There was barely any food that grew this harvest!” Exclaimed Sergeant Major Marshall. “The weather is acting very strangely. It is so warm outside that the fruits and vegetables are refusing to grow. Whatever rain the plants are getting, the heat is evaporating.  And without those we cannot raise cattle.” Added Vice President Henry. “So then, what is the solution?” Asked the President. “Are we to just sit back and let anarchy take over?” “No kidding. Without enough food, everyone will eventually fight to the death for what’s left of it.” Said Marshall. “Then again, once winter comes along the food should begin to grow again. Until then, everyone will just have to be patient.” Said Henry.  “We’ll also have to start enforcing food rations.” Marshall added. “If I may.” A figure appeared from the shadows. “Who are you?” Asked the President. “I am Doctor Lee. I was invited here when I sent some very important documents to the White House. Documents that just may offer you the proof that you need of the solution to our problem.” “Really? You have the solution?” Asked the President rather unamused. “Yes, I do.” Lee replied. “Well then, by all means. Do tell us.” Said Marshall. “There is a girl who I am convinced is not human.” Everyone in the council laughed him to scorn. “Now, hear me out.” Said Lee as he slid the documents towards the President.” A  girl named Eva Salvadores survived the roller coaster accident at Drasney World in Florida, last May. I was her Doctor.” “How did she survive?” Asked Marshall. They found her, along with a boy who also survived, on top of a tree.” Said Lee. “Okay, so perhaps they were flung off the roller coaster just in the nick of time.” Marshall suggested. “Perhaps, but the thing is; there was not so much as a scratch on either one of them.” Lee said. The President began to curiously read through the documents upon hearing this. “And if that were not enough to convince you, Eva just survived a plane crash yesterday. Said the Doctor. “Wait, you don’t mean flight 77 do you? The one that exploded into flames in the middle of the ocean?”  “That’s the one.” Everyone gasped. “Boats and helicopters arrived at the scene of the crash after the mayday call. After what they saw, nobody bothered to look for survivors. But then, they saw Eva. Floating in the water about 100 ft away from the plane. They couldn’t believe her body was still intact. They pulled her in the boat; where, to everyone’s utter surprise, her eyes suddenly opened.” There was an uproar among the officials until the President reassured them, “He is telling the truth. These documents are official.” Everyone held their breath. “B-but sir! It’s absolutely impossible to survive a crash like that!” Marshall exclaimed. “I know. But she did.” Said the President solemnly. Everyone began to murmur amongst themselves. “So, we’re just supposed to believe that she’s a supernatural being?” Asked Henry. “Do we have a choice?” Marshall asked sarcastically. “Listen.” Said the President. “This girl could end up being a blessing or a curse. The question now is, will she help us in our time of need, or not?” “We could test her. T-to see if she’s good or evil.” Henry recommended. “What’s the point in that? Why not just ask her to help us?” Marshall replied. “Because if she is a Deity then we are at her mercy, anyways.” Said the President soberly. “Ladies and gentlemen, God is trying to get our attention. And, we need to figure out what she wants from us.”
