The time has finally come to make the trip to Spain; to celebrate the wedding of Annabelle and Miguel, and the birthday of Eva. It was early August and everyone was at the airport. They decided to bring Spud and Tater along too since they were just as much as part of the family as anyone else. Leo and Eva were at a café, enjoying some coffee before the flight. “This is so exciting!” Eva exclaimed as she sipped on some coffee. “I know. I finally get to see where my little Eva was living all this time.” Leo said. Eva smiled. “You know, I have a good friend named Lily that still lives in Spain. “Oh, really?” Leo said. “We had our differences, and we fought. But we made up just before I left.” “That’s good. You should never hold a grudge, Eva.” “I know. It’s just-well, it’s a long story.” “Just remember that no one’s perfect; so therefore you should not expect or demand perfection out of anyone.” Leo stated. “I know, but she had a bad habit of being rude to me.” “But she realized her mistake; correct?” Leo asked. “Yeah.” Eva said as Leo smiled. “Then that’s all that matters.” Eva smiled as well. “Yeah, you’re right!” “Life is lived to learn lessons. And Heaven is lived to forever enjoy the benefits of having learned those lessons. Eva was taken a back. “You’re so wise.” It was time to board the plane. Everyone took their seats. The flight attendants went over the emergency instructions, and before they knew it the plane took off. A few quiet hours passed by and by now it was twilight. The rich, golden light beamed through the windows of the plane as they passed through wispy clouds. “If only it were us that were getting married.” Leo said gazing at her. Eva looked up at him and blushed. Maybe it was the evening sun reflecting off of his beautiful, golden locks; but Eva suddenly had butterflies in her stomach. Leo wrapped his arm around her and began to slowly drift off to sleep. As did Eva. Soon it was night and the stars twinkled all around them. The moon was shining in all it’s strength. “Eva.” Leo said suddenly as he opened his eyes. “Hmm?” Eva replied being awakened from her slumber. “I love you.” Suddenly, the plane began to tremble violently. An engine had just burst and suddenly, to everyone’s absolute horror, the plane was falling headlong into the ocean. There were blood curling screams heard all around as everyone clung to their seats. Just before the plane hit the ocean, Eva took one last glance at Leo. He was completely calm as he looked back at her. Leo smiled serenely. “I love you.” He said once more before the plane exploded in the water. Eva felt a violent thud and strong wave of heat come over her. She heard ringing in her ears as she felt herself quickly fading away. She then slowly whited out. After what felt like an hour to Eva; she slowly began to open back up her eyes. She saw what could only be described as a white, bright, misty, empty space. “W-where am I?” Eva thought sleepily as she felt herself floating in mid-air. “You have died.” A voice replied. Suddenly, Leo appeared before her. “L-Leo?” Eva began to tremble as tears filled her eyes. “Eva.” “Leo!” Eva exclaimed as she embraced him with all her might. “What happened?! Are we really dead?” “Yes.” Leo said as he held her. “The plane really did crash. Everyone died on impact. Including us.” Eva gasped and then began to weep. Leo caressed her tenderly. “It’s alright. Don’t be afraid.” Leo said reassuringly. After Eva finally calmed down a bit, she asked, “Is this Heaven?” “No, this is Limbo.” “But-why are we in Limbo? Did we do something wrong?” “No. It’s because-“ Leo paused, then said, “Because you have to go back.” Eva grew wide-eyed. “What do you mean?” “Eva.” Leo said holding her cheek. “I’m not who you think I am. And, neither are you.” Leo said looking deeply into her eyes. “Huh?” “Eva, you must go back. The world is in trouble, and it’s up to you to save it.” “But-how is the world in trouble?” Eva was confused. “Because it’s ending. There is about to be an economic ruin to such a degree that everyone will resort to killing one another just to survive. There will be nothing left. That is why you must live, to save this world.” “Me?! How? Where do I even begin? What do I-“ “I promise Eva, I will be with you. I will never leave you.” As Leo said this, he began to fade away. “N-no, don’t do this to me! Leo!” As she screamed out his name, she jolted awake in a rescue boat. “She’s alive!” Eva heard a voice say. There were flashlights beaming in her eyes as paramedics were attending to her. “It’s a miracle!” She heard another voice say. Eva felt so disorientated that she passed out again. The boat signaled for a helicopter to take Eva to an emergency hospital. Everyone aboard the plane died that night; except for Eva. She spent the next three days asleep on a hospital bed; suddenly, all alone in the world.
