Lia heard Joseph's voice in the corridor before the door opened. She was already on her feet when he walked in with two men behind him. He didn't look at anyone else. He went straight for Elena's cot. Lia stepped in front of him. "Move," he said. "Leave her alone." He looked at her flatly. Nodded at the man on his left. The man grabbed Lia's arm and yanked her sideways and she fought it, got one hand free and scratched hard across his face. He hit her with the back of his hand and she went into the edge of the cot on the way down. The floor came up fast. She tried to get up immediately. Her arms gave out. She could hear Elena behind her, the sound of the cot shifting, Elena saying no, saying stop, saying please. "Hold her," Joseph said. "You got her good boss," one of the men said
