CHAPTER 6: A Sudden Attack

Anastasia's POV Apparently, Andrew was Damion’s brother and the prince and the soon to be royal gamma of the werewolves. He had special permission to walk in and out of the campus anytime he wants with his friends. We drove out the academy’s grounds in Lamborghini Murcielagos. Apparently, the werewolves were very rich to be able to afford such luxury cars. No doubt, my family had their share of richness but we couldn’t compare to this kind of a fortune in a lifetime. The road to downtown was opposite from the one I travelled on to reach the academy. “The town is a free trade place for all kinds of creatures and hence it attracts many. The collective royalty of many realms protects places like these. We believe in peaceful trades as well. You must visit the artefact shops sometime. The Fae people make the most eye-catching artefacts. A Fae is half human, half fairy. They are tremendously egoistic.” Andrew was telling me about the town’s specialities. At least it would help me forget about whatever happened hours ago. I had very mixed feelings about Damion. I was however confused how fast and how hard I fell for him. According to Patricia, the mate bond strikes like this way only. But, if the mate of a werewolf is someone from a different species, the intensity of the bond for them is lower than for their mates. I also came to know that Alexa and Lewis were mates. They were warriors of the royal pack or the ‘Crescent Blood Pack’ which was Damion’s pack. According to Andrew, all of his friends were exceptional fighters, which is why they always stayed with him because he was the prince and the target to many enemies of the Crescent Blood pack. Their family has been ruling the realm for more than 800 years. We reached the town and boy it was fancy. It was nothing like a town in the middle of frozen mountaintops. It was a freaking city! There were various states and I also saw Faeries, Witches, wolves, all at once in person. It would have been a dream come true for my teen self. “The Fae are surely exceptional people but the witches are better in creating powerful magical artefacts.” Alexa added. Meanwhile the others got out of the other car and joined us. “That is true but Fae magic is light and hence less likely to be detected. Best for spies and undercover protection.” Perry rebutted Alexa. “You won’t last 10 minutes into a war with Fae artefacts. It is only best for deception and treachery.” Lewis snarled. “Calm down you, guys. We’re visiting the town to have a little fun. Now drop your grumpy faces!” Henry said. He flashed me a grin. “If my brother senses that you are flirting with his mate, Henry, you will not live to see another day.” Everyone laughed at this statement of Andrew but Henry tensed in response. He was suddenly scared shitless. “Ease up Henry, Andrew was just kidding.” Wasn’t he? Andrew winked at me in response. We came to stop at a huge Pub named -Trendy Tavern. We went inside and it was just so cosy that I instantly felt ravenous. We entered a booth in the farthest corner and settled. Perry sat on my left while Andrew on my right. Alexa, Lewis and Henry were sitting in front of us. Patricia never went out at night so she wasn’t with us tonight. A waitress in grey apron greeted up warmly and took all our orders. I ordered a Garden meat sandwich and a double chocolate milkshake. “Won’t you catch a cold if you drink a milkshake?” Perry asked. “No, I can handle it.” I replied politely. Apart from me, everyone ordered alcohol. Alexa and Lewis got up to get some privacy. The guys were answering my questions about various things. I was new to this world and there was a lot that I did not know. Soon our orders arrived and Perry glided over the booth table to sit beside Henry. The sandwich was mouth-watering, just like Andrew told me. This place had amazing food. The milkshake however proved too cold for me. I could only half finish the milkshake when the pub door blasted open. Some hunk looking guys entered and among them was a lady in high leather boots wearing red turtleneck with white lace collars and a black pleated mini skirt. She had a full black woollen cape on. Her eyes settled on me and all of them literally proceeded towards our booth. A few officials of the city (kind of a police) approached them and asked them to stop whatever they were doing. The town was protected by many people and this was them showing their powers. The red girl (I named her red because she was red from head, literally to toe), flicked her finger and a violet wave of magic struck the officials and they were thrown to other part of the pub. By this time, everyone was running to get away from this sudden attack, or whatever it was. I was pulled by two strong arms and Perry took me in his arms and ran towards the back exit. All I could see was Andrew, Henry, Alexa and Lewis turning into humongous wolves in a couple of seconds, shredding their clothes and fighting with the group of witches, head on. Perry put me on my feet outside the pub and turned into a half wolf half man. He stood in front of me in a protective stance and was snarling and growling viciously. Now, all of this would have been interesting and adrenaline inducing just if I were not in the middle of all this. But now… it felt like my heart would leap out my throat in seconds. I was horrified by whatever was happening in front of me. Tears filled my eyes and my vocal cords were not ready to cooperate. We kept standing there just like that for a few minutes. Inside the pub, furniture was crashing and so were people. Perry was NOT a werewolf and he was something else, something more terrifying. I didn't even know what was wrong. Judging from the scenario, those people were here for me, and I have absolutely no idea whoever they were or why they were after me or what they would do to me. Suddenly a bloody Lewis came crashing through the back door and one muscular man from the group before looked towards me. He started walking in our direction and Perry jumped on him and tore away his left hand. The man let out a painful scream and hearing this, the woman in red came running out and saw Perry standing over her companion. She immediately clenched her fists and started murmuring something. Midway through her murmurs, Perry jumped on her and scratched her face with his sharp claws. She shrieked in agony and pain. The other witches came running towards her and gathered round both their injured teammates and suddenly vanished into thin air. Unable to take anymore, my knees buckled and I fell onto the ground. My head started throbbing again just like it happened this morning. A half naked Alexa came running out the pub and saw Lewis lying on the floor, all bloody. She started sobbing uncontrollably and somehow I was feeling her emotions. The pain, angst, love and remorse. This was not helping my headache as it worsened with every passing second.
