Kylie POV.
We run. Hoping our legs will take us faster then what is behind us. That's the goal. Out run what chases you. There is no way we are going back to that pack willingly. It's a monstrous place, filled with terrible people. But mark my words alpha, we will show no mercy.
That man doesn't deserve to live. A bad man, leading a pack to follow in his footsteps.
We run until we feel it's safe. We come to a stop and glance at our surroundings. I don't hear nor see anything, I think we’re good.
“I don't know if this is the right way, but I sure hope so.”
“Girl same”
“I think we should get some sleep. Rest up a bit before they find out we’re gone.”
"Yeah, thats a good idea. How do you want to do this? One stays up to watch? Or do we both rest?"
“Well, they don't know we are gone yet. So if we only sleep for a few hours, and make sure our wolves agree to keep their senses on alert, then we should both be okay to sleep.”
“Ok. sounds good.”
“Angel, keep an ear out please? Wake me up if you hear something”
“Anytime. Get some rest.” I smile. I love my wolf. She truly is amazing.
“Hey Zoey.”
“Ya?” she grumbles.
“I'm going to shift into my wolf. Once we wake up we should hunt down food. So this will speed up the process. Plus if something creeps up on us I can react faster.”
“Okay. What's her name?”
“Angel.”
“Pretty name. Well, goodnight Kylie, Angel.”
Smiling, I walk behind a tree and strip out of my clothes. I gather them up, and tie them together. Creating a ball of clothes. It will be easier to carry. I drop to my knees and shift. Once I have all four paws on the ground, I grab my clothes with my mouth and walk back over to Zoey. Angel drops my clothes in front of Zoey, then lays down next to her. She snuggles her body closer, wrapping around zoey. To keep her safe, warm, and comfortable.
“Mmm. Hi angel, nice to meet you. You can meet my wolf later, but for now. Goodnight.” Zoey whispered out.
Finally getting comfortable I drift off to sleep. Praying to our goddess, we make it out of this safe, and alive.
*****
Hearing a twig snap I jerk my head up. Sensing no threat i calm down. But then I smell it. Food. I jumped up, startling Zoey. She looks worried, then she calms down seeing I'm not freaking out. I jump and prance around her as she asks “what?” while giving me a confused look.
I jump around some more and sniff the air again. She looks at me, taking a moment to realize what I said last night.
“Food.”
Angel lets out a small yip as we jump around again. Nodding our head. Zoey smiles and laughs.
“Haha. Kylie did say when we wake up you would want some food. Ok. I need to eat too. So I am going to shift into my wolf and we can go hunt. I'm not eating anything raw, and it's too risky to make a fire. Someone can see the smoke.” Zoey walks behind the tree and emerges a few moments later, in wolf form. We gasp when we see her.
She is a beautiful sandy colored wolf. With crimson spots throughout her fur. Her fur reminds me of her hair. Zoey has a dirty blonde hair color. That almost matches her wolf. And her eyes. They are a dull sage green. Very pretty. Her wolf eyes match her eyes as well.
The pretty sandy wolf jumps around. Looks like we are ready to go. Both our wolves pick up our clothes, and they take off.
“Angel, try to keep it on the path. We don't want to be turning a lot and get caught.”
“Yes of course. It's safer this way.”
Our wolves run around. Angel zoning in on the sounds and smells around us. Finally Angel catches a whiff of something. She hears the rustle of some leaves and jerks her head in that direction. Once she spots the small deer, she lunges.
Pouncing on the poor deer she rips it apart. Blood splattering on our face. Once she eats all the meat, and is satisfied. She digs a small hole, drops in the small deer, and covers it back up with dirt. We look around ,spotting the sandy colored wolf. She was finishing up her meal. Appears to be a rabbit? Maybe. Once the wolf was done she licked her lips and looked at me. Perking her ears up, we both nodded to each other. With that we began to run.
Taking off at a fast pace we ran for a while. We were hours away from the Legion Souls pack. But they can still find us. We have hours of running, days even, before we might be safe. Our paws made thunderous noises as we ran. Dodging branches, and bushes that are in our way.
I glanced over to see her keeping up with me, she seemed to be struggling a bit. But overall she was right there with me. I figured keep up this pace a bit longer, then we can slow down some. But it has to be around ten, if not later. They should find out soon that we are gone, if they haven't already. That's why it's important for us to keep at this speed a bit more.
**time skips a few hours**
We are still running, I think it's been another few hours. We slowed down a bit, but not much. We keep running, still in wolf form. I can tell Angel is starting to get tired. Zoey probably is too. It's about time to shift back to let them rest, and get some sleep again. Just as i was thinking that though I began to smell something fresh, clean. Water! I start running faster in that direction. It's just ahead of us. Finally I see the moon reflecting off the water. It's a nice stream. We both run towards it, quikly dipping our heads down in the water. Quikly lapping it up.
Once we are both satisfied we step back. I see her linger a bit longer, staring at her reflection. A gentle tear falls from her eye. I shift back, throwing my clothes on. Calmly, I walk towards her. Reaching my hand up to pet her.
“What's wrong?”
The pretty wolf stands there a second longer, then steps back and shifts. I turn away till I feel a hand on my shoulder.
“Nothing. It's just, I haven't seen my wolf since I shifted for the first time. It's been a little over a year. My wolf came a few months early, telling me I wouldn't be able to shift so the moon goddess allowed me to shift early. And they were right. I haven't shifted since the first time.”
A few more tears fell from both of our eyes.
“I'm sorry. That must have been so hard. Something similar happened to me, but i shifted late actually. By two years.”
“Two years?? How old are you?”
“18. I turned 18 about 2 months ago. I think”
“Wait. but wolves shift at 18.”
“Well from the sounds of it you didn't. How old are you? And when did you shift?”
“Well I'm 19, I think. That's what my wolf tells me. I shifted just before my 18th, as I would be given the chance to after that. So, wait. I'm confused. Explain to me how you’re 18. But shifted late.”
“Well, I'm not sure. My wolf told me I was supposed to shift at 16. And something big was supposed to happen on my 18th birthday. But because of how i was treated, and malnourished. I shifted late.”
“So you were supposed to shift at 16. But only those that are to be an alpha shift at 16. You have to have alpha blood, and typically next in line for alpha, to shift at 16. Are you an alpha??”
Zoey stared at me wide eyed.
“N-no. I don't think so? I don't know my mother, and my father was mostly drunk. He didn't talk to me, raise me. I don't know much about him.”
She nodded her head. We both layed down, staying in human form. Hopefully we can get an early start as the sun is coming up.
Just before I drifted off to sleep I called out to Zoey.
“What's your wolfs name”
“Lemon”
