The ride back to camp was cold, and quiet. Chris has been ignoring me since we left the castle. I don’t expect him to be happy but I need his support, I stood up for myself when no one did. I want to feel that I’m not alone, I think I deserve that much.
The car finally stops on a familiar road to our camp, I don’t know why it did though. “We have to pick up a couple of vampires joining us for the expedition.” Amoux spoke, offering a comforting look my way. “We need all the help we could get.” He patted my back before stepping out of the car.
Is it really that bad? It’s their fault for not telling me anything, I can’t be of help if I’m clueless.
I slumped back to my seat, waiting for Amoux and Chris. A loud bang from the tail of the ford made me jolt in surprise. I turned around and saw William standing on top of the cargo bed. “Relax princess.” he snickered.
“What the hell are you doing here?” I quickly removed my seatbelt and got out of the truck. He leaned his back on the metal frame and looked at me lazily. “Same reason as you. I can’t let my future King join you savages by himself, who knows what you’ll do to him.” He shrugged.
My mind chose to ignore the word he used to describe us wolves, and immediately looked around for the ‘Prince’ he’s talking about. “Deacon’s here?” I turned my attention back to William.
“I already said future King, how slow can you possibly be?” Before I could retort, a hand snaked around my waist. I looked beside me and saw Chris looking at William with a scary aura around him. I could feel an incredible amount of power radiating off him.
“Not enough space in your coffin, William?” Chris asked in a sarcastic tone. They know each other?
“I get leg cramps, hairball.” He shot back. A low growl came out of Chris, I tugged his shirt to turn his attention away from William. “I want to kill him as much as you do, but we do need all the help we could get.”
“Listen to your girlfriend. You need me.” William chimed in. “Don’t push it.” I shot him a warning look using my wolf’s eyes.
He backs away with both his hands up. “I do need a ride. We’ve been travelling since yesterday.” He sat down, and rested his head on the cargo wall. He does look exhausted, for a vampire at least.
“We can walk if you’re not comfortable riding with him.” I offered Chris, a smile finally showed on his lips. “I’d love that very much.” He took my hand on his and started walking towards Amoux and the others. I followed his trails quietly.
I could sense a strong power emanating from one of the vampires Amoux is talking to. My eyes quickly met his when we finally got close. “We appreciate your help, it’s just that the council failed to mention a prince will be joining the expedition.” Amoux and Scout Leader Trevor shared a hesitant look.
I don’t think they were expecting Deacon to be here. “They also failed to mention that a princess will be joining too.” He turns his attention back to me. His eyes traveled from my head down to my feet, before staring at my hand holding Chris’.
“We can talk more at the camp. Let’s get a move on shall we?” Amoux breaks the silence off, with a smile.
“Celeste? Christopher?” Amoux motions to the ford, but Chris shakes his head. “You can go ahead, Dad. We’ll be using a different path to the camp.” He sent a look to his Dad. I’m guessing it has something to do with me getting captured by the vampires we’ll be traveling with. Amoux nodded. “I’ll see you there.” He patted his son’s back.
We waited for Amoux’s car in the same spot, he slowed down in front of us. “Take care of her okay?” He told his son. “I will, Dad.” Chris nodded back.
With a smile he finally sped down the road. The rest of the cars including Deacon’s Ferrari trailed behind his ford. Leaving me and Chris alone. When they were finally out of sight, Chris’ aura changed into a softer one.
“Remember when Amoux would hunt us down because we stole a whole pie from the cafeteria?” I nudged Chris. “Yeah, and we would eat it out in the woods before he could find us.” He replies with a laugh.
“I remember you eating more than a half of it. Your chubby cheeks were cute though.” He added. “You know you could have ended the story with the woods thing.” I shot him a look. He has a boyish cute smile, I can’t stop smiling too.
“I was faster than you though.” I stuck a tongue out at him before transforming to my wolf and running deep into the woods. “Celeste!” I heard him yell. Suddenly his brown fluffy wolf is running in front of me. Shooting me a ‘you wish’ look, when he ran past mine.
When I was finally able to catch up behind his tail, I pounced, tackling him down the ground, but we ended up stumbling down a shallow ravine, luckily a bush broke our fall. Chris took most of the impact, I landed on top of him.
I could feel his wolf’s heart thumping loudly, my wolf licked his face to calm him down, his wolf slightly tilted his head sideways. She feels so close to him, they have an undeniable connection. He howled, licking my wolf back, before resting his nose against mine.
The walk back to the camp was annoyingly fun, Chris wouldn’t stop biting my ear, I had to growl at him a couple of times, still, he remains unfazed. He upgraded to biting my cheek instead.
When we finally reached the gates, Shaka and Maikoh opened them without hesitation. They know our wolves, and they could sense my wolf’s power radiating off. “It’s great to have you back princess, Sir Chris.” They bowed down when we walked past them.
My wolf recognized the gesture and nodded in their direction. If it was any regular day, my wolf would have ignored the hell out of them, but she seems to be in a really great mood.
We finally reached the front hall, the scene outside looks like a carshow, with Deacon’s Ferrari as the lead model. Suddenly Chris decided it was a great time to bite my face, again. It’s not hard, more like a playful bite. I could barely feel his canines on my skin.
“Son, let go of Celeste’s face.” I heard Amoux chuckle, I shifted my gaze to him, he’s with the rest of the pack and William. They were all staring at us.
Chris still wouldn’t budge. I let out a low growl, to make him stop. He eventually did, licking the spot he was biting earlier. “So the news was right, you two are finally mating.” Dakota snickered. My wolf huffed at what she said. “They’ve been doing that since we were young, it’s not an unusual scene anymore.” Calian shrugs.
I ran towards the fields with Chris trailing behind. I missed being out here. Even my wolf wants to run around and play. I intentionally plopped down the grass, sniffing the flowers, my nose caught something that made me sneeze.
Chris settles beside me, resting his head behind my back. I could feel his warm skin against mine, my wolf felt tired all of the sudden. The rain started pouring, I felt a drop on my nose. Chris nudged me to get my attention. His wolf then motions to our old house. I followed after him, going straight to my room.
I transformed back to myself, shivering when the cold air hit my skin. I wish I always had furs to cover my body.
I took the sheet and covered myself with it, settling under the covers on my bed. It’s almost morning, and I feel sleepy. I shook my head free from the thought of staying here, no matter how sleepy I am, I have to be present in all future meetings.
I’m the princess after all.
