The Vampire King

Jasper Deacon “You didn’t tell us she’s a princess.” William kicked the living s**t out of the vampire who brought Celeste over from the black market. His eyes were puffy from all the beating William gave. He deserves a lot more than that. “You better start talking.” Cauis pulled him by his collar, and threw him in my direction. He landed on the floor with the sound of his bones cracking. “She- we didn’t know she’s an alpha, she was wandering alone in the forest. We were using the Queen’s scent to lure werewolves, I swear. Please- don’t kill me.” He bows down, and starts to kiss my shoes. Little pup was wandering alone in the forest? What was she doing there? I watched with my hooded eyes as they mutilate the vampire in front of me. This scene is getting too old, I have lived long enough to be able to name every bone in the body while breaking them. “What’s your plan?” Cauis turns his attention to me. I know if I don’t give Celeste back, the werewolves will declare war over us. This helps our cause, we need them to start a war anyway, to show once and for all who’s inferior. Werewolves and vampires can’t coexist equally. Whoever thought of that idea must have been high as f**k. I can’t think straight, wiping out each and every last wolf means killing people Celeste cares about, but she has to accept their fate. I don’t think she’ll still like me after I murder her family. It’s a risk I’m not sure I can take. “We have to kill her now right?” William asks, I snapped my head lazily in his direction. “Idiot.” Cauis threw the vampire’s liver at Will. “If she’s a princess, we need her alive for as long as possible.” I c****d a brow at him. “She’s royal blood. You can harness her power.” “Bullshit, she’s weak.” Will starts laughing. “She’s unmated, you uncultured microbe.” Caius shoots him another look. “Enough.” I stretched my muscles before standing up, I need to let out some steam before I go up in the room. “The woods.” I briefly ordered Caius. He nods, in acknowledgement before narrowing his eyes again at William. I’ve spent my whole lifetime with these two, they’re a pain in the ass, but they get the job done. Like a faithful dog to its master, they’re always by my side. I can’t think about murdering werewolves when all I imagine is Celeste’s white hair falling perfectly down her shoulder. Her perfectly sculpted face, and those captivating blue eyes. f**k, from the moment I laid eyes on her she’s the only thing circling in my mind. It’s like an invisible thread is pulling me close to her, and I don’t know if I should follow or not. She’s so lost in the idea of finding her mate, that I can’t make a move. Mating only happens with werewolves, why am I suddenly affected with their way of finding a partner? I want to worship her body with my hands, I want to do more than just hugging. I have it bad for Celeste, and she’s a goddamn werewolf. The most beautiful werewolf I’ve ever seen. If I had a heart it would beat for her. We reached the end of the cliff within minutes, the rain was pouring hard against my skin, I decided against wiping my face. Caius and William stood patiently behind me. It’s been weeks since we last visited the forest. I want Celeste here with me, I think she enjoys forests as much as I do, but she loves her people more. I can see it in her eyes, she’s a natural alpha. She’ll escape the first chance she gets. The wind was blowing differently, it felt very unnatural. “Search the woods.” I whispered to Caius, he quickly caught on, and sped off towards the trees. Something in the air is not right. Before we could run back we were already surrounded by werewolves. “He’s a Prince, your kind will be in a very dangerous position if anything bad happens to him.” William snickers, before he could take any steps further, the werewolf growls at him. It would take less than a minute to rip it apart, but they outnumber us, 8 to one. “I don’t think they plan on attacking.” William turns his attention to me. “No.” I answer. “They’re here to rescue their princess.” Celeste’s face flashes on my mind. Now I could kill as much wolf as I can, but she’ll be gone by the time I arrive home. I have to make a run this time. “Fend them off.” I instructed William, he nodded, before launching himself to the wolves. He’s lived more than a hundred years, he survived far worse than a werewolf's bite. He’ll live. I’ll kill him myself if he doesn’t. I had to delay a bit because of the wolves following me. I kicked one down midair, because it launched itself in my direction. The house was a mess, vampire blood carpeted the floor leading up to every room. They slaughtered everyone while we were gone. I ran up to my room to see if Celeste was still there. Only the thread infused with wolfbane was left on top of my bed. I slammed the door behind me, with a loud sound resonating through the whole palace, everyone scurries down to bow in my presence. “His Royal Highness, Prince Alaric.” I wince at the sound of that name, it’s the name my grandparents gave me. Their first born grandson, Alaric. It sounds so formal I despise the position that comes with it. King Lazarus sits on the throne cozily, right next to his Queen. My Mother, the reigning sovereign of this shitty country. “You disappoint me.” He immediately says when the maids are out of earshot. “I’ve missed you too, father.” Mother reaches up to her temple to massage it, I can feel her exhaustion. I can’t imagine being married to a garbage spineless man. “You kidnapped the Lycan Princess?” She asks, her face turns soft when she looks at me, she’s always calm and collected. The exact opposite of her husband. “She was for sale at an underground black market. I didn’t know she was the princess.” “Of course! That stupid brain of yours is good for nothing. What were you doing in an underground market? What if someone sees you and reports you to the council? You’re putting all our lives in danger, boy.” “I was on patrol with Marcus to find out what happened at the park.” I explain the expedition we were after when I met Celeste. King Lazarus snaps his head back in my direction. “The last thing we need is a reason for humans to side with werewolves, you’ve given them enough reason not to trust vampires.” “I’ll make this right.” I say, meeting his gaze. A low deep rumble emanates from his chest with his eyes flashing red as he glares at me. “You better. Or I’ll kill you myself.” He stands up and towers over me. “Stop it you two!” Mom’s voice resonated around the room. It was enough to make King Lazarus return to his seat. Unlike him, Mom is a respected well known ruler. If it wasn’t for her power, he would have been overthrown years ago. He married her to keep his crown. He owes her his life. “You’ll make this right. I believe in you.” She nods in my direction. Somehow that made me feel a little less furious about the whole situation. “They have every right to kill your servants, and anyone who accompanied you during her illegal stay at your house.” King Lazarus states. “They are your people.” “You should have known that before you brought an illegal werewolf on your property.” He shot back. He breathes in deep to calm himself down. He bangs his fist down his throne and looks at me again. “Your brother will be very pleased to hear what you’re up to these past few weeks. He’ll be staying at your place. I believe he’ll do a better job than your lousy friends.” He says through gritted teeth. I tried looking at Mom for help, but she turned away. “You should go get some rest, Alaric.” She says without looking. At least I’m finally free to leave. I stormed out of the castle with butlers following me. I’ve been so caught up with Celeste and the werewolves, I’ve forgotten about Caius and William. I haven’t seen them since the attack.
