The moon, you and I

The frontline was full of male scouts from the pack, the strong ones, with heightened abilities to track scents, Scout Leader Trevor is also here. “Why did you bring her with you?” He asks, with a c****d brow. “She’s her father’s daughter, you know how hard headed they are. Don’t argue.” Amoux pushed Trevor lightly. He still looks like he doesn’t agree with me coming but I’ll be damned to stay and wait for them to find my parents. I have to make sure they’re okay. “Amoux, worse comes to worst if I don’t come back like them, you have to stand up and be alpha.” I whispered to him. I heard him chuckle but not loud enough to draw anyone else’s attention. “I won’t let anything bad happen to you. I promised your father I’ll protect you.” He sends a smile my way while nodding. Amoux howled loud to commence the search. We howled back, before turning to our werewolves. It feels painful at first, transforming to a wolf isn’t easy, but the pain only lasts for a couple of minutes before the bones heal. We had to do the search during the night, it’s not wise to let humans see a pack of wolves wandering around the forest during daybreak. Amoux made sure to mask our scents too, to avoid confusion. We are deep in the forest where my parents were last seen, I sense a faint smell of my mother heading north. Amoux is right behind me, trailing my steps, I’m confident nothing out of the ordinary will happen as long as Amoux is near. I trust him with my life. I ran as fast as I could when the smell got stronger. I see another wolf not far from where we are. I howled hoping it was Mom, but the figure stood still waiting for me to approach. Before I could see who it was I heard a twig snap, I fell down a hole with a loud thud. I feel weak. The stench of the plants around me, wolf’s bane. I quickly passed out from the pain. My eyes adjusted to the room where I was in. My hands are tied, from behind me, I feel the sting from the rope, they must have infused it with wolf’s bane. It hurts just by moving. A spotlight was directly pointed at me, I could sense presence close, but I’m too out of it to know what it was. “A young unmated, alpha wolf.” Someone says, I tried searching for the source of the voice but the blinding light makes it harder to see. “5 million.” Another voice rang. “8 million.” Another one. The numbers keep increasing until it reaches billions. These people sure are wealthy to have that large sum. “7 billion dollars. Cash.” A loud booming voice rang from afar. “Sold! 7 billion dollars!” The people applauded. Human cash is hard to earn because they don’t trust us. If that person’s ready to give up 7 billion dollars to have me, he’s wasting money. Before I could say anything, I was knocked unconscious again. Why does this always happen? I woke up in a different room, I’m on the floor with my hands still tied behind my back. I can feel my wolf weakening from all the plants they keep using on me. She’s hiding far in the corner where nothing could reach her, I can’t use my abilities without my wolf. “Master must be very pleased with you for wasting such a large amount that costs half his fortune.” A hand pulls me by my jaw, a figure of a woman comes to view. Even my eyesight is affected by wolf’s bane. That’s how lethal it is to us. “With the amount of plants used to knock you out, it’s surprising you’re still alive.” She laughs, before shoving my face away. “You are an alpha wolf.” Her steps receded somewhere, shutting the door behind her close. I need to get away from here, but I can’t stand up. “Please come out.” I tried channeling my wolf but she’s too far away. I slammed my head down the floor a couple of times to get a hold of myself. I’m stronger than this! I’m the next alpha in our pack, I have to go home and be with my parents again. “Careful, you don't want to damage that pretty face of yours.” I didn’t notice the door opening, I could feel their presence but I couldn't see them properly. “Deacon, you chose the best.” A voice of a guy rang inside the room, his laugh was enough to drive my wolf mad. I could feel her power growing again. “You’re an alpha wolf right?” He sounds closer now. I had trouble speaking, my throat felt dry, but I managed to utter a word. “Vampires.” Is the only logical explanation why I can’t sense their presence. They’re already dead to begin with. He erupted with another laugh. “How did they manage to catch an alpha wolf? I’ve met those people they’re dumb as fuck.” He chuckles to himself. I still can’t see the person he’s talking to, everything’s still a blur. A figure opens the curtain wide enough for the moonlight to illuminate the whole room. When the light hits my face I breathe in deep. I could feel my power regenerating. The moon gives us strength, without the moon, we are weak. The wolf’s bane on my arm is restricting my wolf from coming out. I can’t do much in this situation but heal. I need my full strength before I could fight them off. I closed my eyes, savoring the light. I can no longer feel the sting on my face, I must’ve had a scratch from my fall. When I opened my eyes, I saw the figure a lot clearer. At least my eyesight’s better. “Who are you?” I ask, the figure steps into the light, with the most angelic face, he looks at me with so much passion. His skin glistens under the moonlight, accentuating all his amazing features. I suddenly felt my heart thump loud in my chest. Fuck.
