Volleyball? I sighed, pulling my hoodie tighter over my head. PE day pa, of all things. My classmates were already forming groups. Girls were giggling, tying their hair into perfect ponytails, while the guys were doing stretches and showing off their athleticism. “Okay, we’re splitting the class into teams for the volleyball match,” Coach Romero announced, holding up a clipboard. “Let’s see... Kylie Maxillon, you’re on Team 2.” Great. Of course. I tried to blend in with the crowd as we moved to the volleyball court, pero somehow, I could feel all eyes on me. Ano bang tingin nila sa akin? I wondered, adjusting my hoodie. I gave him a lazy thumbs up. “Yeah, coach. I’m fine.” Let’s just get this over with. --- **Ace’s POV** Today was PE day, and as always, I was more than ready for it. Volleyball was one of my favorite sports, and I enjoyed the competitive energy it brought. But it was a good way to unwind from the pressure of academics. Habang nasa gilid ng court, I started doing warm-ups, preparing for the game. Ethan was beside me, stretching his arms, excited as usual. “You ready for today’s match, bro?” he asked, grinning. “Always,” I replied, glancing at the other teams. Hoodie up, arms crossed, looking like she didn’t care about the game. “She doesn’t look like the sports type,” Ethan commented, nodding in her direction. I smirked. “Let’s see about that.” --- **Kylie’s POV** The game started, and from the moment the whistle blew, alam kong magiging competitive na ang mga kaklase ko. Everyone wanted to show off their skills, and I wasn’t in the mood to get involved. Pero hindi ko rin gusto na magmukha akong tamad o mahina, so I figured I’d just play along. The ball came my way, and reflexively, I stepped forward and gave it a strong hit with my right hand. The ball flew over the net with a satisfying smack and landed perfectly in the other team's court, right in the middle. Walang nakahabol. There was a moment of stunned silence before my teammates started cheering. “Nice one, Kylie!” one of them shouted. I shrugged, pretending it was no big deal. Yeah, volleyball isn’t that hard. I forgot how much I loved this game. Back in my old school, I was one of the best players. Pero dito? Wala akong balak magpakitang-gilas. But one spike couldn’t hurt, right? The game continued, and before I knew it, I was getting more into it. Every time the ball came my way, I’d hit it with precision and force. My team started relying on me more, cheering every time I scored. I guess I’m not so invisible after all. --- **Ace’s POV** I couldn’t believe my eyes. From the moment Kylie hit that first spike, it was like watching a completely different person. The girl who walked around with her hoodie on, trying to disappear into the background, was now dominating the volleyball court. “She’s good,” Ethan muttered beside me, clearly surprised. “Yeah,” I replied, watching as she effortlessly sent another ball flying over the net. The other team scrambled to keep up with her. In a way, it was impressive. Hindi ko inexpect na she’d be so good at sports. Lahat ng moves niya were sharp, calculated. It was like she wasn’t even trying, pero she kept scoring point after point. But more than her skills, it was her confidence that caught my attention. For the first time since she transferred, she didn’t look like she was trying to hide. Parang biglang nag-shift ang energy niya. She was focused, competitive, and in control. The game was nearing its end, and my team was down by a few points. It was our serve, and the ball came flying towards me. I jumped up and hit it hard, hoping to score and close the gap. But just as the ball was about to hit the ground on their side, Kylie came out of nowhere and blocked it, sending it right back into our court. Game over. Her team won. I stood there, catching my breath, and couldn’t help but shake my head in disbelief. Who is this girl? --- **Kylie’s POV** “Good game!” sigaw ni Coach Romero habang pumapalakpak. My teammates were celebrating, high-fiving each other, but I just stood there, still catching my breath. It felt good, I’ll admit. I hadn’t played like that in a while. Pero the momentary high from winning was quickly replaced by the familiar sense of awkwardness. I didn’t want to stand out, but here I am. As I started to walk off the court, I could feel eyes on me again. This time, it wasn’t just because I looked different. Now, they were watching because they were surprised. I could hear whispers from my classmates. “Ang galing niya, no?” “Saan kaya siya natuto?” “She’s like... a beast on the court!” I tugged my hoodie back up and kept my head down. I didn’t need the attention. --- **Ace’s POV** After the game, I couldn’t stop thinking about Kylie. She was still an enigma to me. One minute she was invisible, the next minute she was the star of the game. I caught up with her as we left the gym. “Hey, Kylie,” I called out. She glanced back, and for a second, I thought she was going to ignore me again like she did in class. Pero this time, she stopped. “What?” she asked, pulling her hoodie further down. “Nice game,” I said, genuinely impressed. “You didn’t tell anyone you could play like that.” She shrugged. “Didn’t think it mattered.” I raised an eyebrow. “Well, it mattered today. You carried your team.” “Whatever,” she muttered, clearly uncomfortable with the compliment. “Do you always play like that?” I asked, curious. “Or was today just... special?” For a second, she hesitated, like she was debating whether or not to answer. Finally, she said, “I used to play volleyball at my old school. I was on the varsity team. But I’m not interested in that anymore.” Before I could ask more, she turned and walked away, leaving me with more questions than answers. --- **Kylie’s POV** I should’ve known he’d try to talk to me after the game. Ace Fronda Mr. Perfect himself wasn’t the type to just let things go. But I didn’t need his approval, and I certainly didn’t need anyone else’s. As I walked away from him, I could still feel the adrenaline from the game pumping through my veins. It felt good to be in control, even if just for a few minutes on the court. But volleyball wasn’t going to save me here. It wouldn’t erase my past, or the reason I got transferred in the first place. Kaya kahit gaano pa kasarap manalo, I knew better than to let myself get comfortable. --- **Ace’s POV** Kylie was an interesting puzzle. She wasn’t like anyone else at Rosewood. Sure, she had that tough, don’t-care attitude, but underneath it, I could see there was more to her. Something deeper. After the game, I kept thinking about how she completely transformed on the court. I had a feeling that wasn’t the last time we’d see her competitive side. And for some reason, I wanted to know what else she was hiding..
