A SONG AND A SPARK

229 Words
Episode 7: A Song and a Spark The bookstore’s small radio played quietly in the background—a song Elena hadn’t heard in years. It was their song, hers and Daniel’s. The one they danced to barefoot in the kitchen on late Sunday mornings. The melody wrapped around her like a memory—warm, bittersweet. Her smile faltered. Tom noticed instantly. “You okay?” he asked. She nodded, but her eyes betrayed her. “This was our song,” she whispered. “Mine and Daniel’s.” Tom didn’t rush to fill the silence. Instead, he waited, letting her exist in the moment. “Funny,” she added softly. “I used to think I’d never hear it again without breaking.” “And now?” Tom asked. “It still hurts,” she admitted. “But I didn’t shatter.” Tom reached over, palm up on the table. An invitation. She placed her hand in his, fingers threading slowly. The contact was small, simple—but it was the most intimate thing she’d felt in a long time. Not because it replaced Daniel. But because it reminded her she could still feel… something. “I think you’re braver than you know,” Tom said. Elena didn’t respond right away. But her hand stayed in his. And in that quiet space between grief and growth, something began to glow.
