Episode 6: Rain and Revelations
The weather turned again—soft rain pattering against the bookstore windows as Elena and Tom sipped their coffee in silence. It had become their rhythm: words, silence, understanding. No masks, no pretending.
Today, Tom seemed different. His eyes lingered on the rain like it held answers he couldn’t say out loud.
“Elena,” he said finally, “do you ever feel like... if you let go too much, you’ll lose them all over again?”
She looked up, heart tightening. “Every day.”
He nodded. “Some mornings I wake up and feel guilty for feeling okay. Like I’m betraying Claire.”
Elena reached across the table, her fingers brushing his hand. It was the first time they’d touched.
“You’re not forgetting her,” she said softly. “You’re remembering how to be alive.”
He looked at her then, like her words had offered something sacred.
For a long moment, they didn’t speak. The rain kept falling, gentle and steady—like a blessing, not a burden.
“I’m glad I met you,” he said, voice low.
“Me too,” she replied.
Outside, the rain began to lighten.
Inside, something new was growing—still fragile, but real.
Not a replacement.
Not a finish line.
But a beginning.
